Nier: Automata

http://static2.gamespot.com/uploads/...t_20151030.jpg

Quote:

Nier: Automata shares the post-apocalyptic setting of the original Nier, taking place after the game's fourth ending. While carrying over the Drakengard series' tradition of a dark atmosphere and branching storylines, no direct narrative connection is shared between Nier: Automata and the rest of the series. Set an unknown time after the events of Nier, the story revolves around a war between the remnants of humanity and the machine army of invaders from another world. The initial invasion forced humanity to flee to the Moon. Humanity eventually sends down combat androids dubbed "YoRHa" to fight the invaders in a proxy war. While denied emotions and lacking true names, they have particular attitudes that distinguish them from their fellows. The YoRHa are commanded from the Bunker, a reconnaissance base in orbit above Earth, and establish a self-sufficient Resistance on Earth to drive back the Machines.
Release Date: March 7th 2017

Previous Games:
Drakengard Ending 5 -> Nier (PS3) / Nier Automata (PS4/PC)

Nier Automata can be played with out needing to play the first Nier game because while it was set in the same universe, the years the games are placed in are too far apart. The first Nier game can be played with out playing Drakengard.

The first Nier game's timeline was set in year: 3,361 (the prologue was set in year 2049)

Nier Automata timeline is set around year: 11,944

More things will go here.

Anyone going to be playing this game? I preordered it because I liked the demo.

That reminds me a lot like ICEY, which has a protagonist wielding a sword while a robot companion follows her. Is it just me, or that the protagonists are a little too similar despite being in different games?

hyjin 02-04-2017 03:39 PM

Muse have for giant swords pls. And giant robot fights

Demonskid 02-04-2017 03:51 PM

Neon - the 'companion' is based on the first Nier game, instead of a Pod in that game you got a Grimior (book) The attacks are similar yet different.

I can't say anything about the Swords, I've played lots of games where the character carries their swords on their back.

I never played ICEY, but the game plays very similar to the first Nier game.

Jin: ovo I want to play in the fighter machine that flies. Its my favorite part of the demo >w< Its like I get my own gundam >:D

I'm making a DK Plays (a lets play) playlist for this game.. todays game recordings will be uploaded tomorrow >->,

So who's playing it?! 8D Will I find your androids corpse on the ground? >:D

Suzerain of Sheol 03-25-2017 09:48 PM

I got to play this today for about three hours and was completely blown away. The smoothness of the gameplay and the way it transitions between styles and camera modes is really amazing, the story and setting are so wonderfully creepy and badass, and it plays like a hybrid of Dark Souls and Kingdom Hearts @__@

I will definitely be buying this at some point.

hyjin 03-26-2017 12:28 AM

I have only gotten to the first camp and yes i agree it is amazing lol

Demonskid 03-26-2017 09:51 AM

Some of the endings will make you laugh, some will make you cry.. The diversity of emotions is the best >o<

Suzerain of Sheol 03-26-2017 12:53 PM

I died in the tutorial. I am scrub.

Demonskid 03-26-2017 12:54 PM

-Pets- the tutorial can be brutal o3o

Suzerain of Sheol 03-26-2017 01:07 PM

I'm not totally sure on how dodges work yet (which is mostly why I died), do you get actual invincibility frames if you dodge into/through attacks, or do you need to physically move away from incoming attacks? It seems like there's a i-frame system where 2B splits off into those after-images if you do it right, but is that some other mechanic I'm not understanding?

Demonskid 03-26-2017 01:34 PM

-never delves much into mechanics- o3o um.., I just dodge.. and sometimes I use a chip that if you dodge just right it slows time down >:D

Suzerain of Sheol 03-26-2017 01:47 PM

Hmm. It also seemed like I was able to do counter-attack combos if I timed the dodges right, too. Kind of wish they explained it better, but on the other hand I also like games that don't hold your hand....

Oh, the other thing I was wondering about was, what does Praying for the fallen players do when you find them? I can't tell that it does anything at all.

Demonskid 03-26-2017 02:05 PM

I haven't figured that out either.. but i think it gives you more items/exp or gives the helper more HP when you repair them.. its just a guess though o3o i always prayed >w>

Suzerain of Sheol 03-26-2017 03:25 PM

So, two more questions, what's with the locked boxes I can't open?

And I keep retrieving from bodies, and it says I'm getting plugins, but when I go the skills menu to equip them, they're not there. Am I doing something wrong? And what is the white number that shows up above my head when I retrieve from bodies?

Demonskid 03-26-2017 05:18 PM

Locked Boxes only 9S can open via Hacking

The chips kind of stack, like you have Auto Heal +1 (11) that (11) turns to 12 or something. Though I did find +7s once and they NEVER showed up in my inventory D:< like WTF!

The white numbers are you auto healing ;D
