Right now I'm behind on my word count too, albeit not so far I start to worry about it. 1700 words are much, especially when you have a real life too. Do NaNovelists have a real life in November?

I know I didn't, my first time!

trystan830 11-07-2017 05:36 PM

i've been able to figure out having somewhat of a life in November.... this year has been great! XD

but it's why i didn't do NaNo in 2015 - i was working on my HollyDay crochet, and didn't know how much time i'd actually need. i also didn't have an idea then either, and was still lazing around with Timeless Dance... XD

My area even has that one overachiever who already hit 58k. No friggin' idea how that works, I couldn't even put out 8k a day if I wrote while eating, drinking, shitting and sleeping. This is insane ^^;

trystan830 11-08-2017 11:14 AM

i suppose it could be possible... without all that eating and sleeping. LOL

edit:

i looked up my NaNo word count spreadsheet (yes, i have one of those.) XD

these are my word counts as of Day 7 of NaNo for:

2011 - 18900 words
2012 - 10245 words
2013 - 13350 words
2014 - 14680 words
2016 - 21321 words

but nowhere near done!

One of our wrimos is an amazingly fast typist. She's been known to get over 24K words in one day. I saw her do it and it was actually distracting hearing how fast the clicking was coming from her keyboard. XD

I can be an excruciatingly slow writer, yet in 2013 I had over 32K words on day 7. I've known people who actually wrote (without cheating) 50K on their first day. Fast typist, fast thinker, great outline and few breaks for 12 hours. Not anything I could do, but still possible.

And this whole idea about a life during NaNo - Let's just say my hubby is used to being a NaNo widow during November. :P

trystan830 11-08-2017 02:04 PM

Zen, my thought is these wrimos are probably planners and have outlines and character sketches in their head and know exactly what they want to say and where the story is going.

me? i'm a pantser for the most part. sometimes i plan, but only to leave a few bread crumbs as to where i want the story to go. but, yeah, i'm about a 95% pantser. XD

Coda 11-08-2017 04:29 PM

I pantsed the first time I succeeded. I planned the time I failed. This time around is... sort of neither. I have a plan but I didn't intentionally plan it; it was more of a huge inspiration that kinda spewed itself out.

trystan830 11-08-2017 05:57 PM

that's an interesting image there, Coda....

yeah

Coda 11-09-2017 02:06 AM

I've been having problems focusing the last couple days. I've been really tired and overwhelmed with work. I didn't realize until just now that I completely forgot to write yesterday.

500 more words up...

Coda 11-09-2017 10:38 AM

Nonlinear sequencing yay! I decided to try to get some writing done before work and bashed out something I hope conveys the emotion I was aiming for. It's only 675 words but I'm not done writing for the day.

i know this feeling quite well, actually =)

Not done either.
Shifting to a new story because apparently my brain is refusing to write humorous scenes this year.

"Shifting to a new story" is exactly how I succeeded the first time -- I had like six different stories and I glued them together with a frame story.

trystan830 11-09-2017 02:39 PM

NaNo 2014: "Yours In Time, Jacks": five interrelated stories of time travel and wanting to make a change for the better. two more closely related than the other three. (#1 & 5)

my original plan was to assign 10,000 to each person's story. one was a little less. the other four were a bit over. XD

Coda 11-09-2017 05:07 PM

I mean, if you WANT to see my first success, I have it on my website... but I can't promise that it's any good. XD

I've also got my first failure, but despite failing at NaNo I'm actually a lot more pleased with the writing.
