101 Cool Music Videos

List! I like lists. :) I'm totally sure no one has figured that out by now. ;)

(Suze has already threatened me with Behemoth if I did this but doing it anyway).

Sitting and watching videos on music TV is certainly the thing it used to be, things having moved on to YouTube, but I always liked them. Self explanatory I should hope. You don't have to like the song, as long as the video is cool, or interesting, or what-have-you. Let's go with "worth watching in some way."

Leave a mature tag if necessary if you decide to put up a link.

Here's my list!

Number 1!

Weapon of Choice - Fatboy Slim (2001)

Because it's Christopher Walken, and he's dancing. That's really all that needs to be said, but he's also good at it. :).

2. "Helena Beat" - Foster The People (2011)

This music video has so many cool visuals. It's scattered with something new to see at every angle. It's a gritty, post-apocalyptic version of the Lost Boys from Peter Pan. That's about the best I can describe it. It's definitely worth a watch.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-03-2015 06:49 PM

3. "Tonight, Tonight" Smashing Pumpkins

A very artistic video, it's based around the French silent film "A Trip to the Moon" from 1902, and has stage-like aesthetics, with period outfits and the like. It's neat to watch, and I liked it more after seeing the old short film.

Suzerain of Sheol 12-03-2015 08:02 PM

Wait, shouldn't we provide links to the videos in question? o_O

And no, I will not subject the poor denizens of Trisphee to Behemoth. Instead, please enjoy some Nekrogoblikon! This is easily the best music video ever made, thread over. Salone, back me up.

Oh, um, [M] for graphic violence, drug use, and Brad.

This is indeed the best music video ever made.

Salone 12-03-2015 08:51 PM

As a runner up though, I offer ANJ's "Gorbachov" for Russian heavy metal concerning one man's desire to fix the plight of his people through political reforming, shown in an allegorical manner by murdering Stalin zombies. Some sexual themes, rated M I suppose for you ninnies out there.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-04-2015 01:36 AM

Ninny runs thread, so you shoosh!

Links aren't required but can be a thing.

6. "Needing/Getting" OK Go (2012)

Pretty sure this one is really a 4 minute car commercial, I really like it though. These guys do some clever things with their videos (and music) and I could probably put up a couple others, but going with this one first.

The video is more about how they "play" the song rather than anything else, but it's still worth watching. If you're the type that cringes at instrument abuse you might not want to watch this one.

7. CYMATICS: Science Vs. Music

This is for the science nerds and those who hold a romanticism towards natural things. This is a music video that displays different pieces of technology being directed in some way by sound. There are others like it, but not this expansive, and later in time. This was the first one I heard.

Here

(Have some other videos, but this one comes first)

Quiet Man Cometh 03-11-2016 01:09 AM

Do you have a group/producer and a year to add to that, Lawtan?

Lawtan 03-11-2016 12:16 PM

Nigel Stanford & 2014, I think...

SparX 03-11-2016 06:56 PM

8.) Fading Away - Prozak (2013)

I nominate this one due to the display of extremely harsh realities. It's not graphic in the form of blood or gore, but graphic in the form of how disgusting humanity behaves and how it effects the world around us.
And the lyrics state the facts, personally.
It hits me in the feels.

Zack 03-20-2016 05:28 PM

9.) play. by iamamiwhoami.

I don't even feel that an explanation is necessary. Just watch and love (and maybe be a bit confused). xD

Lawtan 03-20-2016 06:16 PM

10) Happy Birthday My Olde Friend - Aurelio Voltaire (2011)

To lighten up the somber songs of human destruction and...possibly the acceptance of absent free will...we have the celebration of your birth! *Party Balloons* *Cake & Candles* *Confetti*

...Oh, you're dead? Well, Happy Birthday Anyway!

11:
Eros and Apollo by the Studio Killers 2012
( Song)

I am a big fan of colors and aesthetics in a music video. I say this one mostly because it is a throw back to 80s/90s gaming culture while being a song about something strangely universal to any time period.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-16-2016 12:52 AM

New replies! Cool! Edited to update.

I had one in mind but I see I've already put it up there.

Quiet Man Cometh 10-11-2016 09:53 PM

12: Då Som Nu För Alltid - Kent

video

Not something I would really say to watch for the video, really, but I like the video combined with the instrumental. I came across it by accident so I don't know all that much about the band, although the other video I watched had them looking nothing at all like they way they are in this one, so maybe costumes and such are a general thing they do.

This video is apparently advertising the band's last album and last tour. I think the purely atmospheric approach is a nice touch.

My Swedish is rough but, something along the lines of "then as now for all time"...maybe.

Alistair Fawkes 10-20-2016 07:00 PM

I can't believe Michael Jackon's Thriller isn't first on the list. Seriously, you rotten kids, go watch it if you haven't seen it!

For those who have, check out Taemin - Sayonara Hitori. Some trippy stuff goin' on up in thar. I like the song, too. And the singer is hawt.

Quiet Man Cometh 10-30-2016 11:06 PM

I tend to forget about that one. Since you didn't specify which one, Thriller makes the list!

I think I like it more for Vincent Price's laughing than for Michael Jackson's singing. ;)

Tech N9ne - What If It Was Me (ft. Krizz Kaliko) - Official Music Video (2016)

So this video is EXTREMELY powerful. It brings to mind some serious current problems in the world (specifically the US) between those in poverty and the enforcers of law.
It gave me some chills honestly. And the emotions on Tech and Krizz's faces are intense.
A ton of rap music nowadays doesn't feature thought provoking lyrics like this one does.

Beast 11-07-2016 08:08 PM

This is one of my favorite music videos. It's amusing and fun, plus the old school Spy movie feel of it makes it even better. Not to mention the villain's crooked derpy smile of surprise gets me every time.

"Genghis Khan" by Miike Snow

Quiet Man Cometh 11-18-2016 01:47 AM

Updated! I might have to add that Genghis Khan video to my share game I'm doing. I've had the letter "m" and no idea what to do with it.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-18-2016 02:53 AM

aaaand adding this one.

16. Sia - Chandelier (2014)

I love watching this kid, and from what I can tell, she's in most of her videos. Sort of makes me regret not pursuing dance seriously when I was younger and in better shape! I still think about it though.

Quiet Man Cometh 04-08-2017 05:48 AM

Saw this one just now. Ran across it by accident. It's pretty cool, and art-nerd at the same time.

17. Jane Zhang - Dust My Shoulders Off (2016)
video

Death by Mirrors 04-25-2017 09:57 AM

...just the video? Well then, I nominate HollySiz - The Light.
It's one of those songs I have already forgotten as soon as it's over, and if I heard it on the radio I wouldn't even recognize it again. Nevertheless I enjoyed watching the video.

Quiet Man Cometh 04-25-2017 05:29 PM

Yeah, the focus is the music video over the song. There's already a thread for good songs. ;).

I'll update that into the list when I'm being less lazy.

Death by Mirrors 04-28-2017 07:45 AM

Also, is this official videos only or do awesome parodies count?

daikokunyo 04-28-2017 07:50 AM

I nominate Lydia Ainsworth's "Malachite".

I don't want to say much about it... but I guess some description is desirable so-
beautiful dancing, unearthly and agrestal, beautifully shot. <3

I think as long as it's noticeably a "music video." I suppose fan made can count, so long as another user can dig it up.

Quiet Man Cometh 10-29-2017 05:03 PM

Has been updated! Didn't realize there was unlisted stuff here.

mdom 10-30-2017 10:39 AM

uhn
I love everything by Björk. which one of her videos to even recommend D:

Quiet Man Cometh 10-31-2017 12:05 AM

I only know of one where she's skipping at one point, maybe doing a cartwheel...not really sure. I think it was noteworthy because it was just a happy? Can't remember what show I was watching but it was on music videos.

Grimalkin 11-08-2017 01:54 AM

Mrs Potato Head - Melanie Martinez. I would say mature because there is a pretty "gorey" or cringey part if you aren't good with scalpels and blood. I nominate this because it is controversial (if you do not understand that Martinez's songs stem all from her personal experiences and what has happened to her, and the Crybaby album this was on is because it all happened to her in childhood), many people feel unless you alter yourself whether physically or mentally you cannot keep someone etc. Her videos are always interesting and somewhat trippy. Definitely a good one in my opinion.

Crystalkitsune85 11-22-2017 07:36 PM

Take On Me - Aha (Why because it's awesome animated stuff with live action stuff and it melds so perfectly. The song is also catchy.)

Quiet Man Cometh 11-27-2017 04:01 AM

Oh, I love that one!

Also required for people fond of the "going out with your best mates" vids.

I feel like we need more 80s on this list.

Crystalkitsune85 11-27-2017 04:46 AM

Glad I can contribute :)

Quiet Man Cometh 05-05-2018 05:36 PM

Also in the good song thread, but “Thought Contagion” by Muse is cool. Not that fussed about the whole video but I can’t help but think that’s parts link back to “Thriller.”

If I didn’t already post it, I would also vote Muse’s “uprising” video.

EDIT: Anyone for some cyberpunk Thriller?
Thought Contagion

Biomecha 09-06-2018 05:46 PM

I like "I Don't Need A Reason" [M] by Dizzee Rascal.

It's sort of a compilation of cinemagraphs and looping gifs done in a creative way.

I'll just add that there is a mild moment that makes it mature.

mdom 09-07-2018 10:54 PM

It has a meme reference so it's already cool in my books

KittyBeary 09-10-2018 05:25 AM

Yaaasss Chandelier *u*

I'm.... obsessed with this song right now so here:

"Hand in Hand" - Miku Hatsune

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SKA6PmcLuQ

Quiet Man Cometh 09-11-2018 03:49 AM

Song or video? It's about the video here! There's another thread for songs. ;)
