three months later.....

i've been reading Trouble with the Cursed for about 4 weeks now. the last time it took me "forever" to read a book was in 2020! this one is taking me a while because we're also packing up to move house across the state.... hopefully in the middle of September. it's partly because my brain hasn't been focused, and partly because (as a Zero Inboxer) i want to clear out my email, which fills up quickly. (and partly because I'm me....)

one month later...

i finished the latest book in the Rivers of London series, Amongst Our Weapons. Also read a Warriors graphic novel, Exile From Shadowclan... and as a complete opposite, i just finished reading Gender Queer.

i'm now reading a book i own, Ilium by Dan Simmons, while i wait to see what happens first: i get a book from the library, or i have to cancel them again because we're moving in the middle of October! o_O (there's a hiccup with the new house, so we're not moving next week....and the buyer for our house doesn't have settlement until October 21. weirdly, that helps us out a bit.)

trystan830 10-02-2022 02:31 PM

i've just returned my last book to my current county library - the lastest Dragonlance book! o_O while the calendar says i ought to have the time to borrow one more book, the books on my hold list are either on order or being borrowed. so my current book is one of my own, and they've been known to go slower.

moving day is planned for October 20th, and probably the weekend after that will be a trip to the new library! yaay! and also, eek!

Hi! I've decided to join in on this challenge. I am enjoying this site and getting active in the forums. I'll start with the book you're reading so we can discuss it. I struggle hugely finishing books because I tend to hyperfixate on things I like so instead of reading I'll probably come back to this site or clean or organise or something else basically. This will be a challenge for me tehe! :)

trystan830 10-13-2022 09:55 AM

hey there Monokai and welcome!

i'm not sure i'd start with Ilium for two reasons. your mileage will vary of course, but: 1) right now i'm an unreliable reader. i've been "rereading" Ilium for months now, and haven't gotten very far, because i'm still packing up to move next week, and don't seem to have the reading time i did before. and 2) Ilium is huge. if you're easily distracted and can't hold the story in your head, a 720-page paperback with at least three plots will be quite the challenge!

but i'll add your post to the index on page 1! :D

Challenges hmm... I should build up then? Hmm..

trystan830 10-13-2022 11:22 AM

challenges are good :)

however, once i had 'moving' on my radar, i didn't think i'd make my challenge. my challenge is the same every year: read more books this year than last year.

last year i read 69. this year i'm only up to 38. oof.

Monokai 10-13-2022 02:58 PM

How funny though the previous year was 69! I hope you manage it but I think it's a shame you're moving during this period. You got this though! Steam through it.

trystan830 10-13-2022 06:36 PM

well, if i only get 40 this year, my goal next year will still be more than that.

it goes up and down. if i read a LOT one year, i read less the next. and the third year i read a LOT again! XD

Monokai 10-14-2022 05:17 PM

I just procrastinated the day away and even though I want to read right now to be a little more productive all I can see is my drawing tablet which is keeping me glued to staring at my computer screen trying to finish this art piece I'm working on (in frustration).

Kaderin Triste 10-14-2022 06:57 PM

Ah, I have been trash about updating my list. And at popping in just because. xP
Have definitely accomplished my goal of 12 books. Have also used my privilege as library staff to override my renewal limit on a book only to still not finish it and just bring it back. So....reading's been weird for me this year. Lol

trystan830 10-14-2022 07:57 PM

i actually did a little bit of reading at my meal today, woo! :)

Kaderin Triste 12-18-2022 12:19 AM

I have been trash at keeping up with my reading list. I'm sure I missed a few and I haven't counted the picture books I read while checking them in at work, but I've still read a ton more than most years.
And I did get partway though probably like 8 or more books before returning them just because I lacked the motivation to finish them before they were due back.
Will try some of them again next year.

trystan830 12-18-2022 12:22 AM

it's been a while for me too. i did get a book from the library (my first from my new library!) and I'm almost done. so I'll have one more for me for this year.
it's been slow getting back into the reading habit after we moved. i got my library card only a few days after we moved, but didn't take out any books for like a whole 'nother month! XD

and yep, there's always next year. :D

Kaderin Triste 12-18-2022 12:33 AM

Yeah, I can imagine moving sapped the reading energy for a while.

I have 5 books at home still to read, 2 (barely) in progress, and 3 that I might not get around to, so hopefully I can add a bit more to my list.
Also...decided to try out the first book of the Dresden Files....and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be marathon reading those next year because the first book really good.

trystan830 12-19-2022 12:46 AM

haven't read the Dresden Files, but i have heard it's good :D
