Trade + Profile feedback.

So, pretty much I just noticed the trade does not ask for your password, and my friend pointed out that your profile displays how much gold your account has.

Both of these things make me VERY uneasy.
I understand the site is new, hackings are gunna be super duper rare but I would feel a lot safer if these two things were fixed.
Like let's say someone went to your profile, saw your gold.
Was all 'wow they have a lot'.
then you're on at school or something, leave the computer for a bit.
They go 'Homg this is the person with all that gold.'
They can trade it all to their account without even needing your password. =/

True that not having a password-need in kinda uneasy. Then again, having a password-requirement wouldn't make any difference (beside delaying the hack process). I mean, if they can hack into your account (first they have to LOG into your account), they already have the password. So even with the password-secure trades, they can still copy&paste your password in.

Yes but what about if you leave the window up at school or something?
Then they didn't log in, they don't know it and they can STILL get your stuff.

I've been hacked on Gaia before where i logged on during the hacking and was able to report it directly to a mod and have it stopped because the passwords slowed them down enough.

They are still working on the profiles right now but, I do agree about the password thing

but shouldn't you have posted your Feedback in the Suggestions and Feedback thread? ^^,

Devlyn 11-28-2010 10:36 PM

I couldn't find it. ;A;

I'll go ask a mod to move my thread.

Inari 11-28-2010 11:03 PM

This thread is fine where it is.

We'll take the suggestion under consideration, but best practices in account management will do much more for protecting your stuff than an extra password prompt would. Don't mark "Remember Me" on computers that can be used by other people. Log out and close all browser windows after using such a computer. Don't tell anyone your password, and don't use the same password for multiple sites.

In general the extra password prompt is more of a hassle than it's worth. It gains very little security, only time -- it only protects you in the event that you don't follow best practices, and if you've been ACTUALLY hacked it only slows the attacker down by a few seconds -- and it adds extra steps to the trade system, which makes it less friendly to use.

What about the current au amount displayed on the profile, is there any way to disable that?

That section seemed to get skipped in any mentionings. .x.

i play an mmorpg where you have to put a pin(like a keycard) to get into your storage and thats actually saved me once from a keylogger getting into there, which saved me from losing all my money and godly gears. I think maybe just a 4 digit pin would be great and it isnt too inconvinient for people to put in.

Inari 11-28-2010 11:09 PM

Its prolly because soon those profiles are gonna go away to a new version xD those are the sites Basic Profile pages :3 coda is making us a super cool profile layout! =D
