Doctor Who [Thread-wide Spoiler Warning!]
Yeah, I'm just going to jump the gun here and make the OFFICIAL DOCTOR WHO page. I'll be in here, alone, talking to myself about my favorite Doctor.
(It's number Nine, by the way. Though Eleven is a close second place.) Doctor Who fans? Anyone? Anyone?... Bueller? |
I like Doctor Who. :) It's weird, but in a really good way. Unfortunately, I usually can only watch it when I'm over at my friend's house. My sister gets really mad at me when I watch it at home.
My favorite doctor is a toss-up between the Tenth or the Ninth. |
Why does your sister get upset when you watch it at home?
Do you have to share a TV or something? |
She thinks it's stupid. XD And yes, we do. There's a tv downstairs in the basement, but that pretty much belongs to my brother.
|
Doctor Who is never stupid!
It's made me appreciate history and want to time travel through it, way more than school ever did. And it's funny, and creative, and exciting. And one episode, "Blink", scared the BUHJEEZUS out of me. D: |
I love Doctor Who with a burning passion. D: I've been watching it since it was in black and white... xD Granted, I probably wasn't alive when it was produced... But still. My parents used to watch it, but then they stopped before the 7th doctor or so... When David Tennant came in I yelled at them to start watching it again. Mom wasn't impressed, but Dad was hooked and I watch it with him often. ^^ |
I love Doctor Who with a burning passion tooooo. :'D
I've been working my way through the old series. It's super difficult when the site I'm using glitches out and stuff, though. D< I've only gotten about halfway through the First Doctor's run. The site works for maybe an hour or two worth of video, and then locks on an advertisement and won't let me return to the video. So I get sick of it and leave it alone for a while. I've actually seen more and know more about Doctor Who than my parents. My mom hadn't even heard of Doctor Who before I got her to watch the 2005 series, and my dad just remembered seeing a few episodes of the Tom Baker years. But I've read like, all the wikipedia pages and fan sites so I know more about the show than I've actually seen. :3 |
Haha. I know more about it than my parents as well because they don't watch it nearly as religiously as I do. >u> They're losers. I remember watching it on SciFi when it was still spelled like that... I don't even know why they changed. D: But this was a long time ago when I was really young. xD;; I'd sit there and watch it with Dad. |
They played the old episodes on SciFi?
D: Man, I missed all the good SciFi years, apparently. Mystery Science Theater 3000. Doctor Who. Now, of course I'm aware of SciFi but all they have is MEGASHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS. D< Also, they changed SciFi to SyFy because they couldn't trademark the word "SciFi". But I don't feel like calling is SyFy so they can just get over it. xD |
Yes you did. xDD I remember the good years... And they still have good DAYS every now and then. It's awesome. xD One of my favorite channels besides Chiller and BBCA. Lmao. Alright then. Thanks. I didn't know why they changed it. </3 It makes me sad. |
Who is Dr. Who?
|
The Gallifreyan Time Lord who "borrowed" a Type 40 TARDIS with a broken Chameleon Circuit so it's stuck looking like an old English police public call box, a-duh. xD
|
At least that makes it not look too strange... xD |
I looooove Doctor Who xD I have for years... the David Tennant years were a little... hit and miss for me, but I absolutely LOVE matt smith as the doctor, I'd say he's my favorite :3
|
Yeeee!
Another person who didn't completely think that David Tennant was the best thing to happen to Doctor Who since forevereverever. And an Eleven fan, too! I got really worried, you know. My brother found a news article that said the ratings for Matt Smith's Doctor were really low so they might replace him. I sure hope not. :C |
I love Doctor Who, even though I haven't seen any of the old series. D:
I FINALLY got my mom hooked on it though. BDD She got stuck watching the newest season with me because I don't get BBCA in my room. Now I just gotta get her to watch the DVDs I have. XD Johnny - Oh god, Blink. I used to like angel statues. Then I saw Blink. Aww, really? I hope he doesn't get replaced. T__T I really like him! |
Blink terrified me.
I watched it on my computer, in the dark, at about one in the morning, with headphones on. It made me jump so violently I was afraid I might've killed my laptop's harddrive or something. D: |
It scared me too. DX Then Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone aired and just... whyyyyy. DDX
|
I dislike the new doctor, I've liked the other recent ones *frowns, hugging him/herself*
I know some.. stories about the actor behind the new one.. it's horrible (involving.. his erm.. sexual tendencies.. if the person he is with.. he'll ask "do you love the cock!?" and if you don't respond with enough enthusiasm Yes I love the cock he'd get limp and sulk off) Yeah >.< |
Seth, I honestly doubt that's true. :/
You'd have to cite a source for me to believe you, because it really doesn't fit his personality from what I've seen. Furthermore, him as an actor shouldn't influence him as the Doctor. David Tennant is probably the nicest, most fun of all the New Who Doctors, but he's my least favorite. Christopher Eccleston has a reputation for being, if not "humorless", then certainly serious and reserved, and I absolutely loved him as the Doctor. |
im not that fan of it...but i like the episode that mr bean (arkinson) kisses the girl its weird
|
AWWWW I thought David Tennant was good as the Doctor, but in any case when will the Doctor ever defeat the Daleks? I mean seriously, they keep coming back again and again. I get that they are the Doctor's greatest enemy and all but someone has got to lose this enternity long war eventually right?
|
Yeah, I kinda wish they'd stop coming back already. :/ It's like every time they show up they're the "last Daleks" and then the next season there's another group of last Daleks. I know they're really popular, but... jeez.
|
well if they did something different and better each time they came back it really would not bug me that much. They try exterminating the human race every single time they come back. I will admit that the time they hid in the rift was good, and moving the planets, they need to do something new about them.
|
I haven't seen the episodes with the new Doctor. In fact, I haven't seen Tennant's last stint as our favorite Timelord (I will later, though, since Netflix has it for instant queue). I'd also like to see the series from the very beginning, but I don't know the name of the actor who played the first incarnation
|
Your better off just searching "the first doctor" on the Doctor Who website, Tennant is like the tenth Doctor and I don't think you will be able to find all of the episodes.
|
Is Dr. Who a good show?
|
David Tennant is my favorite Doctor :D
Of coarse I only know like three... and then there is the eighth Doctor books Ive read, theyre really good but back to the subject of the show, I miss the 10th doctor, he was fun in a smartaleck kind of way. Which Doctor had that abnormally long yellow and blue scarf? Just curious >< |
Yes Doctor Who is a good show and the 10th Doctor left because he didn't want being the Doctor to become a job to him. It is upsetting to say the least :(
|
The First Doctor was played by William Hartnell, from 1963 to 1966.
The Doctor with the long scarf was the Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker. Yes, Doctor Who is a good show. xD As for the Daleks: I honestly don't understand them, but I'm a New Who fan. They're not scary to me in the least so I don't get why they're always such a threat to the Doctor (other than the fact that getting rid of them is apparently like trying to de-flea your dog, in that there always seems to be a couple survivors that revitalize the whole damn popultion). They're tin cans with plungers, Doctor. You've got a brain the size of the universe and the power to defy physics. Stop acting like they're worth your time! (That being said, I realize Daleks are too iconic to ever leave the show.) |

Lin Chambers-No look up The Graham Norton Show, he does an interview and explains why he decided to leave. His reasons for leaving are understandable though.
johnny-The Doctor fears them because they destroyed his planet and entire species. I don't know if you know that he is the last of his kind the Time Lords. The Doctor aquired his Tardis because he 'stole' it from his own people and lead them into battle against the Daleks. This is basically why he craves companionship all the time. Yes I agree the Daleks are too iconic to leave the show, so are the Weeping Angels, but the angels are seriously creepy in my opinion. |
Uhhh, yeah, Bookworm, I kinda made the Doctor Who fan thread here, and I just listed off some previous Doctors by their number and the actor who played them. Suffice to say I know the Doctor's story.
The point is, the Daleks as creatures are not frightening. In their first appearance, they were defeated by magnets. Regardless of what they'd done, they still look like tin cans with a plunger and an egg beater tied to them. They're not scary. Maybe if they went around as the gooey blobs of DNA that's inside the tin can, they'd be scary. |
I've never met anyone whose favorite was number nine. owo;
I usually forget he existed. OTL My favorite is David Tennet, number ten. Eleven is a close second, though I dislike the actor. I'm actually watching one of the first episodes right now. The ones that still exist, that is. |
I love Nine. Everyone forgets about him, but I thought he was excellent and Christopher Eccleston is a very good actor. He added a lot to the role of the Doctor, I think.
How can you dislike Matt Smith? In the interviews I've seen, he seems to nice and funny. I thought I was going to hate him so much, but I find him very charming. |
Ooh.. a Doctor Who thread, yay ^^
I love Doctor Who. 10 is my favorite, but I loved 9 as well. It really is too bad he only did one season. it took a while for 11 to grow on me, but starting at about "Vincent and the Doctor" I really started to like him a lot. I thought he was brilliant in the Christmas special, so I'm starting to have really high hopes for the new season. ^^ @ the Dalek discussion: I don't think the Daleks are scary as monsters, per se. Their design just isn't that intimidating. As has been pointed out, they're tin cans with plungers. However, I think they're terrifying as a concept. They are the embodiment of total, unreasoning hate. Their only goal is to destroy anything that isn't them. They don't want to conquer, they don't want to use us as slaves, they don't want to steal our resources, they just want us dead. There's no bargaining, no allying, no collaborating, only unending, implacable hatred. Sadly, the frequency of their appearance on the show, (and the rather silly looking new "color coding" >< ) has diluted that feeling. When they show up once or twice a season, and are defeated each time, it's hard to maintain an aura of terror. I think they, like all the good iconic, scary villains, are best used sparingly. I'm actually hoping we go a season without them, just to help increase their impact in later seasons. *coughs* Sorry for the ramble there... ^.^;; |
I watched this show for like 6 hours.
I was so confused. D; |
Lol, yeah it can be confusing. What episode did you start with? Some are more confusing than others, lol.
|
Uhm. It was one where the woman prime minister got obliterated by the toilet plunger/whisk monsters.
It was with the tenth doctor. (Gotta love David Tennant) |
Oh wow, you started with a season finale. That would definitely be confusing, lol. Especially that one, since it brought in a lot of past characters. Despite the confusion, if you liked it enough to give it another try, I really suggest going back to Christopher Eccleston's season and starting at the "beginning" (of the modern series, at least ) It's much easier to follow everything that way, lol.
And agreed on the Tennant love <3 |
