What was the last book you finished?

Yeah, not the last book you picked up and tried to read, but the last you actually finished? XD If you wish, you can tell if you hated or loved it (or were left simply unimpressed) and why.

Mine is "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury and let me tell honestly, it is one of the BEST books I have ever read. Wow. I loved how he told the stories, the told and untold meanings behind them, how real were the characters, how much... The book is about us, the present, the side of everything we don't want to see.

The last book I read was Countess of Scandal by Laurel Mckee. It is about a couple who when they were young had been in love, Eliza Blacknail and William Denten. Will had joined the English arm and left Ireland for many years. Years later soon before the war between the Irish and English, Will's troups return to Ireland. Eliza, who became a countess after the years, and now is a widow, secretly joined an underground Irish rebellion. It Will tries to figure her out, they're fillings are still strong as ever, and the war has began.

I won't say anymore for romance lovers~ I really did enjoy this book. The ending surprised me at how supence filled it was. I can't wait to read about her second book which is about Eliza's sister and a sexy duke!

Though her writing had a few errors, it was still well written and had me very entertained in the end. It did start a little slow and took me a while to finish. lol If they're really good I can finish them in a night. lol

This afternoon, I finished The Ghost King by R.A. Salvatore. It's the last in a series of a kajillion (20-something) books. I bawled like a little baby at the end.

I really like all the philosophical stuff in this series of books. Sometimes there are simple typos, and enough of them that they really should have been caught. Sometimes the writing is cheesy and has such bad foreshadowing that it makes me cringe. But the way he writes his characters is so wonderful, and the trials he throws at them make them really come to life. Even the characters I don't like very much, I still feel compassion for if they're hurt or tormented. The characters really come to life for me, and the combination of the well-written characters and the creative plot really make the books wonderful.

The last book I finished was The Cat Who Saw Red. Unless you count Audio books *i dont* it woulda been The Cat Who Played Post Office. I am in love with Lilian Jackson Bruan's Cat Who series x3 Koko and Yum Yum are so cute x3

Sadrain 07-24-2010 04:06 PM

I just finished "The Secrets of Immortal Nicholas Flamel Book II" anddd was not even disappointed since I knew it wouldn't be all that good. Now, I am out of readable things again. -must go to library and hope there will be something new-

Kalei 07-26-2010 02:07 PM

Atlas Shrugged. Just Yesterday. I've been reading it on and off for a few years.

Vox 07-26-2010 11:05 PM

The second book of the Monster Blood Tattoo trilogy, Lamplighter. Looking forward to the third book. D M Cornish spent years outlining his world and it's nice to relax inside someone else's imagination, knowing you're in good hands and not cheesy ones.

Istalindir 07-27-2010 11:49 PM

:3 I read (and finish) a lot of books. X3 So, I'll put the last three I've read up. :D Just for fun.

1. Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde: This was cute and short. XD I read it in a hour.

2. The Child Thief by Brom: Amazing book. I couldn't put it down~

3. Merlin's Dragon by T.A. Barron: Another short one. X3 But really good, anyway.

Sadrain 07-28-2010 06:54 AM

I just know there are some books I can't force my self to finish. I pick them up at the book-starving time, but they are so bad, I can't get trough them (like German romance books >o>), that's why I added "finished".

Behemoth 07-28-2010 01:01 PM

"The Martian Chronicles" is amazing! Bradbury is such an amazing writer, and his scifi has a delightfully human element to it that many others unfortunately gloss over in favour of technology. If you haven't already, you should pick up his short story collection, because he really shines with his shorter tales. If you get the complete version, it's a giant monster of a book, easily over a thousand pages.

The last book I finished was "The Ball Jar," by Sylvia Plath. If it weren't for the undercurrent of racism in her descriptions, I would count it as one of the greatest books I've read, but I didn't exactly enjoy reading it. I don't think it's supposed to be enjoyed.

Sadrain 07-28-2010 03:26 PM

Oh, no, I haven't read his other stories yet, but I intend to do. Unfortunately, probably not that much has been translated in Latvian and republished at this moment. ^^;
And, yes, the book's absolutely amazing. I instantly added it to one of my favorites. He has amazing writing style and I love how he weaved a whole big story together from small pieces.

Rainism 07-29-2010 04:38 PM

The last book I've read was The Book of Dreams by O.R. melling. It was like 700 pages long but it took me a week or 2 to finish. I couldn't put it down x3

Kalei 07-29-2010 06:14 PM

Cirque Du Freak: A Living Nightmare by Darren Shan. Read it in two days :D

Ashurato 08-14-2010 06:59 PM

The last one? Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce. I'm halfway through Trickster's Queen.

:D Salvatore's books are some of the best books I've ever read, and I'm happy that I was able to get you into them C: I didn't really read any books at all but when my friend gave me the first book of that 20-something some 3-4 years ago I was addicted to them. At one point over 1 week I read 6 of the books @.@

And as for the latest book I read, it was Elminster in Hell by Ed Greendwood. I really like Forgotten Realms C: And the book wasn't so bad :P

Konata 08-19-2010 11:20 AM

Heeeey, someone else who loves some of the books school makes you read! :'D

I loved Fahrenheit 451 when I read it in middle school, while everyone else thought it was boring/confusing/stupid.

Well I'm reading it again cause it's actually REALLY GOOD.

Rem 08-19-2010 12:50 PM

Last book I actually finished was Wicked and that was a loooong time ago, like...I want to say early this year like January or even sometime last year. xD I have not been reading nearly enough at all.

Although I don't know if it counts as finishing cos I honestly skipped a huge chunk of the book and...y'know now that I think about it, I think I just stopped before I got to the ending. xD So nmind. Ugh I just...I wanted to love it thoroughly so bad, the concept was so awesome. And I did! I loved it right up to where Elphaba loses her lover and goes to his homeland and castle and god the whole story just came to a screeching halt. Boring chapter after boring chapter and she wasn't interesting anymore. I mean I know she would have changed after his death, but I guess I prefer younger, feisty and snappy Elphaba to old, bitter and cantankerous Elphaba. Feh.

Ashurato 08-19-2010 03:14 PM

Just finished Sabriel by Garth Nix and now starting on The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce.

My school never made me read it, so I read it on my own for fun. :D I really enjoyed it, it's among my top favourites, with 1984 and Brave New World.

Gozed 08-19-2010 06:31 PM

Last book I finished was "A Short Life of Bree Tanner," the Twilight novella... >_>

Although I've been trying to read through the Red Pyramid.

Our teacher actually read it to us in sixth grade (I was in an excel / gifted accelerated program) but everyone acted all bored, so she stopped. I was enraptued, of course. -3- Stupid mob rule.

I started it on my own sometime afterward but never finished it, I don't know why. I mean to though. The subject matter highly interests me.

Lucid: 08-20-2010 09:12 AM

you definitely should finish it sometime. sometime soooooon! and I was in a gifted class too so we must unite! >D

johnny 08-20-2010 09:44 AM

I loved 1984, too, but hated the ending. D<

Stupid dystopian novels, never ending how I like books to end.

(Also, to be on topic, the last book I finished reading was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but that was a re-read. The last book I actually finished was The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, and that was months ago for my Women in Literature class. I haven't been much of a reader lately, and I don't know why.)

8D Woot, gifties unite! *high fives*
I was in it in 4th, 5th and 6th grade, and to be honest...? I hated it. xD Not the course, I loved everything we got to do, how we had all these special projects and did things none of the other students did (like dissect cow hearts once) but it was the same kids all 3 years and we all hated one another by 6th grade, lmao. I was an outcast too. Outcast amongst the outcasts, how's that for tragedy.

Some of my most favorite books were assigned to us then though, and that class got me to reading Madeline L'Engle and got me hooked on sci-fi and fantasy so it wasn't all bad.

[/way off topic]

Seth 08-23-2010 01:17 PM

Fade Out, book 7 in the Morganville Vampire novels.. >.>

Yommy 08-25-2010 08:02 AM

Last I read was Wicked. It's a very well written book.
Now I am reading Son of a Witch.

Kalei 09-04-2010 06:10 PM

I Finished reading Elvenborn last night. I was both freaked out and frustrated. Freaked out, because the ending was scary, and I ended up sleeping with the lights on. Frustrated, because it brought in allot of stuff at the end, setting up for another book that I found out may not ever be released.

regine 09-04-2010 06:13 PM

can i count my textbook as last forced reading? xD hahahahha

Pikal 09-04-2010 06:50 PM

Last book I finished was "Stalking Ivory" by Suzanne Arruda, it's in a series. The book is one of the few female lead books I've ever been able to read, and liked (not trying to sound sexist here, but I tend to be able to enjoy and understand male leads much better) I actually wasn't going to read it ever, but I was on vacation and it was raining and my grandmother recommended the first book of the series I read that one within a couple hours and then read the next one the next day. Very good mystery books.

Himiko 09-04-2010 06:53 PM

Mercy, by Jodi Piccoult, it's an amazing book. <3

Beaver 09-04-2010 11:56 PM

aha im looking to buy that book himiko. xD

last one was slaughter house five. dayumm thats a good book.

Vanitas 09-19-2010 03:43 PM

Hush, Hush
It was pretty good. I'm into romance novels.

H. Sang Ki 09-19-2010 05:20 PM

pixal: that doesn't sound sexist. i'm a female and i've read an equal amount of books with male and female leads, but i tend to prefer male leads more than female.

i think i rather liked Fahrenheit 451. and Brave New World i found it odd but fascinating. i'd have to say one of the books i really enjoyed that i had to read for school was The Chosen. i just liked it. i was about the only one in my advanced English class that did. everyone else liked The Good Earth, which was one of the two books we had to read over the summer.

but i guess the last book that i read without having to be forced was Mira, Mirror. i've started Eragon, though school started so i'm reading my textbooks more than anything xD

Eris 09-20-2010 02:56 PM

Knots and Crosses by Ian Rankin. I liked it, in part because of the writing style and in part because it's set in Edinburgh which is an awesome city :)

SakuraMinamino 09-20-2010 03:57 PM

Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex. Love that series--can't wait for the next one!

Delirium 09-21-2010 07:23 AM
