Has a book ever made you cry?
(See title)
The only book I've ever shed tears over is Steven Erikson's Memories of Ice. There is a death in that book which is just cruel. My wall still has a dent in it from me throwing the book at it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great book, but damn it, I didn't see that one coming. Come on, don't be shy, share your lachrymose literary experiences. |
Yes. Homeland, the part where Zaknafien is crying because believes Drizzt has become a killer like every drow child is doomed to be. I could even find the line, I`m sure.
|
Yeah, plenty, but I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.
|
The Outsiders
Only book I've really /cried/ over. I've gotten choked up and teary a bit over some but I've flat out cried over that one. |
i dont think i ever have cried reading a book :P
|
I've heard it was reall sad when Pony died. I never did finish the book though. I left school that year for my health and started English by correspondance and we read a different book instead, either "the Snow Goose" or "Stoney Creek Woman."
|
Pony never died ._.'
|
Jane Eyre. The ending nearly killed me.
|
Jane Eyre and Of Mice and Men almost made me shed a tear. But I'm pretty close to heartless when it comes to books nd media so no, I've never actually cried at a book.

I've heard a lot of people comment that they liked The Outsiders but I never really was all that interested in it. I think part of that might be that I wasn't much for caring about the teenage condition and such. Didn't care much for Catcher in the Rye either, though I'll admit that Salinger is a good writer. |
I've cried a few times I'm sure, the first ever was when I was younger, when Tobias was forced to stay as a hawk in Animorphs.
|
I rarely cry, so I can't recall a book that's made me cry...well..not tears of sadness. I've cried angry tears from a couple of books.
|
The Invisible Wall by Harry Bernstein and The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy both made me cry. The Invisible made me cry because of the whole 'forbidden love' factor. As for Hansel and Gretel, one of the scenes was really touching. |
Hmm, quite a few have, actually. I remember I cried when I read "The Neverending Story" and books about animals, and my most favorite book: "The Last Elf" and it's 2 continuations. I think it just shows that book has a deeper meaning than just the top, and that it really touches you, leaves an impression. Same goes for movie. because if it's a serious book/movie, it is supposed to do that. So, it's no shame to cry.
|
It isn't technically crying, but Donaldson's The Wounded Land had me feeling sick to my stomach and shaking when I started reading. I felt completely betrayed and devastated... which is exactly what he was trying to evoke with that book.
Other than that and the one I mentioned above, I don't usually get too emotional over books. |
╔═════════════════════════════════╗ (。◕‿◕。) The Anastasia Syndrome by Mary Higgins Clark was the first book that ever made me cry. It had the most depressing story ever in it. But it was an amazing story though. ╚═════════════════════════════════╝ |
I think the one that brought me to tears was Wicked cause I was hoping for better and not for worse.
|
Omg, like every book I read makes me cry.
Okay, not every book... But every GOOD book. Especially if I'm really emotionally into it. Even if nothing sad happens, I can still cry simply because of the resolution. |
The dragon riders of Pern made me cry, the series is really in depth and you can relate to many of the chars. I'm going to have to read it again.
|
I cried with a few books... I think I teared up on one of the Harry Potter books after a character death... I think it was Sirius's.
|
I don't think a book has ever made me cry. I know a book has made me tear up before, but never the actual action of tears going down my face. o 3o
|
I tear up quite often when reading books. I get attached to a minor character, because the main one hogs all the spotlight, and when something goes wrong I always get a little teary eyed.
|
One thing that keeps me from crying at more books is getting spoiled. I have this bad habit of going to message forums for books before I finish them. It's never as emotionally powerful when you know it's coming.
|
I'm not into reading anymore really..but the last book I read, that i actually was interested in. was called.. Sold. by i don't remember who it was by...but it was about some girl in another country sold into the sex traffiking stuff..you know....it is a sad book. but it is something any of us women could find to understanding,it could happen to anyone, something like that..you know. it's sad.

Those books ALWAYS makes me cry. I even know who's going to die and when, but I still cry every time. I always feel so bad for Harry. |

Especially if it's a really long book. Sometimes I get anxious waiting for the end. But usually, even if I read it I still have no idea what's going on because I'm only half way through. xD |
I cried when I read The Black Stallion. I don't remember much only that it made me cry..
there are other books I'm sure that done it.. but I can't remember any of them xD |
I've had a book make me tear up, but never cry. I can't remember the title of the book though, might have been a Harry Potter book, not really sure. xD |
Sirius dies?! *pout* Actually, I think I already heard that, or saw it in the movie. *Thinks.* Yup, movie. Still sucks. I like happy endings, or rather, satisfactory endings.
I find the writing will often determine whether or not I get emotionally affected by someting. I don't recall every getting in teary or very sad while reading Lord of the Rings, but, believe it or not, I've gotten teary over some fan fiction. Tolkein, in my opnion, writes like a univeristy professor, which would make sense since he was, but it also is not terribly conducive to emotional writing. I think I got a bit teary when Prince Andrew died, but I can't remember. He was my favourite character in War and Peace and I was annoyed with myself when I read ahead too far in the chapter synopsis in the front of the book and learned that he died at some point. It wasn't built up to be cripplingly emotional though, and it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. I prefer it when authors aren't trying to make their readers bleed in their seats. |

That's why they make me cry so much. Waaaay too much death. |
I cried when I read Marley and Me.
I love animals; it makes me sad whenever one dies. |
RED FERN
OMFG That book made me choke and start sobbing. When we watched the movie the teacher even TOLD US to bring TISSUES because we were going to start crying And sure enough my friend and I did :< |
There's been several books that made me cry, I just can't exactly name any of them except the Harry Potter one where Dumbles died D: I was so angry TT_TT

very emotional series, yar. |
At the edge of the book Bridge to Terabithia At the very end when the girl dies looking for the main character. Since I read the book after watching the movie... I sort of knew it happened... But still.

Yeah. I was really out of it for nearly two days after reading it. Not counting the end, it was an amazing book.
|
1984 was a crazy book, but i dont know if it made me cry cry maybe be sad?
|
The Book Beastly made me cry a little. To see how depressed and and unloved Kyle/Adrian gets when his dad dumps him in some other house to be locked away with a maid and BLIND tutor? I'd cried at that... yup.
