🔥⚡️Magic the gathering 🔥☄️

Anyone been playing magic??

Chandra!!!!
Fire deck users anyone🔥?

Unicornlynn 10-20-2019 08:41 PM

What’s your favorite color deck?
🔥 Fire. Chandra Nalaar.
💧 Water. Jace Beleren
🌳 Earth. Garruk Wildspeaker
☀️ desert. Ajani Goldmane
💀 swamp. Liliana Vess

Xoxo, Lynn

Coda 10-20-2019 10:11 PM

I've never heard anyone refer to the colors that way. It's always been red/blue/green/white/black or mountain/island/forest/plains/swamp. The idea of earth and the idea of desert both have stronger associations with red than they do with green or white.

As for me... I haven't been keeping up for a long time. I don't really know the planeswalkers. And I've NEVER played with preconstructed decks. But I tend to like playing white -- though I've also had a lot of fun with blue, and I had a pretty solid green deck back in the day.

But my absolute favorite deck I've ever played was (drumroll please) slivers!

Unicornlynn 11-13-2019 10:12 PM

I have never seen a hole deck made out of silver what was it like! ? Won’t hat Ben artifacts?

Coda 11-13-2019 10:17 PM

Not silver, sliver. They're worm-like creatures that power each other up.

Unicornlynn 11-13-2019 10:38 PM

Never seen those either sorry read it wrong lol

Mekatra 11-13-2019 10:47 PM

I used to play a black/white life drain/gain deck, and I had a blue mill deck I was pretty fond of too, but that was a very long time ago.

I had a bag full of cards stolen from my car and my whole collection was just gone. Close to 2k cards. I never played again after that other than when my nephew is over and then I quickly build a deck out of his cards.

Unicornlynn 11-13-2019 10:54 PM

What’s a mill deck?

Mekatra 11-13-2019 11:25 PM

When you make someone discard or exile their cards.

If they run out of cards, they lose the match. XD Also if you're playing a deck where you can revive things out of the graveyard it is very handy to play your opponent's own cards against them.

Unicornlynn 11-14-2019 01:07 AM

Oh okay I do that
That is my specialty

I collect more than I play, haven't bought cards since 07 =A=, but a friend/neighbor is trying to get me to play MtG:Arena more often. He showed off his one deck that decimated someone... https://youtu.be/EHoKE6JfTtY <- seriously look at this over kill x-x, OVERKILL I TELL YOU!

then he challenged me with that deck QAQ

Apparently if he hadn't used an Instant to get rid of my monsters, he said he woulda lost =w=, and I only have premade/starter decks on that x'D

Unicornlynn 11-14-2019 04:41 PM

Demonskid 11-14-2019 07:49 PM

Natsunaine 11-17-2019 09:35 AM

*closes his closet full of mtg cards* WHAT IS THIS MAGIC OF THE GATHERINGS YOU SPEAK OF IS IT SOME SORT OF CULT?

in all seriousness i cant pick a favorite *eyes his vampire deck* maybe...

I have had fun with all the libraries i have made and they all have there own place in my heart...

If i had to pick a card it would probably be my Sorin Markov >.> I love me some sorin.. why did he have to be turn to stone?! DX

Espy 11-20-2019 05:08 AM

...Got some friends trying to get me into MtG... which I AM interested in, but wow that learning curve. They claim, based on my playstyle in everything else, I’d probably roll w blue/black. And from what I know of blue/black mechanics and synergy, I’d say they’re probably right.

also there’s a reason people generally hate mills

Natsunaine 11-20-2019 05:47 AM

The thing about magic is that its extremely similar to chess, You can learn how to be very good, but its nearly impossible to master.

Eventually you'll be able to play without thinking about abilities etc, it just comes with time.

Coda 11-20-2019 12:08 PM

Magic is way harder than chess. Chess is comparatively simple; despite the depth of its strategies, there aren't very many rules and those rules are straightforward, and both players always know everything there is to know about the state of the game.

However, the basics of MtG aren't too terribly bad. You can go a long way just knowing the basic flow and reading what's written on the cards. In a way, Magic is a little easier to get into than chess because the game itself guides you along the way instead of having to learn a whole lot of stuff before you can even get started.

Blue definitely does sound like you, Espy. And the blue-synergizing part of black also sounds like it'd fit you, although the whole of black maybe not so much. (Could be more than I realize though; I know there's a lot about you I DON'T know.)

Surprisingly, considering how I play in basically everything else, I tend to prefer green/white despite blue being more apt to my personality type.

Espy 11-20-2019 11:13 PM

Yeah, I’d probably never play black/anything else. I like... deep complex stratagems, stuff that’s high risk, high reward — high risk if somehow your opponent figures out what you’re doing, high reward if you can distract them from your main objective until you spring your trap.

...Tactical shit’s basically the only thing I’m actually pretty competitive in.

Sounds like a blue black zombie deck based on pulling combos from things that seem like you are putting yourself at a disadvantage sounds like your style, there are many different ways to pull this off and many different styles.

I once made a library that I called the forget myself deck (milling compared to the story is essentially like taking memories) where I self milled myself in return this actually made it easier for me to reverse the mil into others and wipe their libraries.

Mill- To cause a discard straight from your library to the discard pile.(grave yard, whatever you fancy yo call it)

Has anyone else been watching SethBling's Mario: the Gathering stuff? He's making a 360-card cube entirely of Mario-themed cards, and it's been an interesting series so far.

Mekatra 11-22-2019 09:42 PM

I did not expect white out of you for some reason, Coda. Green, maybe...

Coda 11-22-2019 10:39 PM

Well, I don't know so much about modern white. I haven't played a whole lot since... um... Onslaught. >.> I was still semi-active around the release of Mirrodin but after I graduated from college I really didn't have a whole lot of exposure to the game anymore and there's a whole bunch that's changed. I have no idea if white still represents the play style now that it represented circa 1999.

But what I can say is that you wouldn't say it was a surprise if you had known me at that time in my life. I was strongly Lawful Good at that point, to the point that some of my friends had nicknamed me "Paladin." (Though they remarked that I was one of the most Good paladins they'd ever encountered, as opposed to the "smite anything that doesn't strictly comply" mindset of the stereotypical adventuring paladin.)

I consider myself Neutral Good nowadays, pursuing the belief that the law should exist in the service of freedom (that is, tyrannical laws are bad, but without law you can't fairly protect people's rights), and the pursuit of freedom should strive to respect the rule of law (that is, if the law isn't oppressive or evil, don't flaunt it just because you can). I pursue this belief with a conviction that would be worthy of Lawful status in its own right if it wasn't for the fact that I place such a high value on balance (neutral) and freedom (chaotic).

Espy 11-23-2019 01:49 AM

My friends keep poking fun at how obviously Dimir I’d be.
