Salad Tossers R' Us (Spidey Asset Private rp) [M, probably]
This is a private rp between imanasset and sylvanSpider, so please don't post here. Reading, however, is allowed. ^w^ This rp centers around the afterlife and doesn't adhere to any religions, so there is a chance that you might be offended.
The Game That being said, when a person dies they are made into either an angel or a demon based on the way they lived their lives. When they enter either set of gates, they are essentially "reset" to the best physical condition of their lives and they are unable to die from sickness, starvation, etc, but are still able to die if another takes their life - rendering food and sleep to pleasure rather than necessity. They are also given the opportunity to sacrifice a certain part of themselves, be it physical or some other attribute, in order to receive some type of weapon or trinket, often accompanied with complimenting super powers. These powers will aid them in their endeavors as each angel and demon is encouraged to actively hunt and kill members of the opposite order (angels kill demons, and vice versa). If they bring back trinkets/weapons of the opposing side they are rewarded with monetary and power gains (think of it like a level up system). Heaven and Hell Characteristics This world is a flat-Earther's wet dream, as Heaven and Hell exist on two opposite ends of the map, with the Borders being where most "hunting" takes places. Heaven is eternal day while Hell is eternal night, and the Border tends to have a twilight/dusk feel to it. Hell tends to actually be quite cold, as the sun never touches their land. Heaven and Hell can both boast modern buildings and electricity, but those in Hell are generally more run-down and less maintained than those of Heaven. Both Heaven and Hell have a Council of Nine that oversees their nation's well-being and monitors population size, etc. etc. Will add more when thought of, or I won't. Whatever. |
Heaven
The dingy twin mattress creaked and dipped under Luka's weight as he sat down. The apartment was small, the walls seemed like they were slowly closing in on him. Dirt stained the carpet and he could hear the faucet from the kitchen sink dripping into dusty porcelain. So, this is Heaven?Luka sighed and sunk back into his bed until his upper back was flat against one of the walls. He tipped his head back in attempts to process. How long had it been since he...died? What was his mother thinking? His little sister? A sudden surge of anger burst through his body and he was hitting his head against the wall, hands clinging tightly to his hair. He felt as though his spine was being crushed by a python and his lungs were swollen from a swarm of bees. Why did this have to happen to me? What did I do? I was good. I still had life in me. I wanted to see the world. I wanted...I wanted--but now it's all gone. Everything is gone. Hot tears fell down his cheeks and he bit down roughly on his bottom lips. He was trembling from exhaustion and sadness and hatred. Why, why, why? -- The bar was bustling with life and laughter. Avani liked this side of Heaven; where everyone still held the innocence she longed to have once again. Their smiles and love filled her with an unfathomable hunger. But the boiling sensations that pervaded her chest would not allow her to feel anything so silly. Avani downed her drink before exiting the bar. Clouds cluttered the abnormally bright sky tonight. She was waiting for the rain to come. For anything to come. But for now, she walked the golden streets, allowing her mind to dive into empty thoughts. |
Heaven
Sage lay on his bed, hands folded behind his head staring at the ceiling. He knew it was coming. They all did. His parents, his friends, his brother...they were all there, up until he could hear the long, high, unwavering tone reverberating in the background as he felt himself pulled. The waiting room, like his apartment, was a huge disappointment. Oh, but he's in a better place now, they would be saying back on Earth, Thank God his suffering is over. Little did they know that instead of a hospital bed, he got a twin mattress that wasn't adjustable, it was stiff and rarely got any use without the need to sleep. The afterlife was about bounty, so long as you killed your fair share, and he found that out with his sacrifice. They made it sound like one had to fight. |
Heaven Luka, being completely absorbed by his emotions, barely noticed the voice coming from behind him. It sounded close as if the wall nothing but a piece of paper. Luka held his breath. He opened his mouth to speak but all that came out was warm air. Shit. How do I do this? Without much of a choice, Luka rose from his place and walked to the entrance of his apartment. He unlocked the door and peeked out into the hallway before stepping completely out. Luka stared at the door next to his own before shaking his head. Useless. What will I do when they expect me to talk? Oh, Jesus. And I look like this. Luka brought his sleeve up to his eyes to dry them. He gave his pink and puffed up cheeks a pointless slap before finally knocking on his neighbors' door. -- Avani, stuck in her own head, did not know what the hell had happened to her, just that she was on her ass with a girl standing above her nervously. "O-oh, um, you're okay. I wasn't really watching where I was going. I'm very sorry." She took the girls' hand and pulled herself up. She wiped her hands on the back of her jeans to remove any dirt that might've gotten on her. "Are you okay?" Avani worriedly asked. Hell Xander happened to be galavanting the streets of Hell when he heard the worst music blaring from the building he had just passed. Backtracking, he entered the small joint. "Ah, this place is so horrible, I love it!" Xander exclaimed and held his arms out. "What's everyone's favorite Grimm Reaper gotta do to get a drink 'round here?" Xander nearly skipped over to the bar and sat down right next to the girl with platinum hair, spinning a little on the stool. -- Nancy had actually been sitting in the Inferno for a while but the bartender had yet to notice her. Although, she couldn't quite blame him because even she couldn't see herself. She didn't quite know how to use her abilities yet. However, she didn't really feel like being acknowledged just yet, for she was quite enjoying watching the people interacting in front of her. The red-haired man that had entered looked and acted like he was very mentally unstable. Everyone she had seen so far, though, had been tilted off their axis in some way since entering Hell. She traced over the names carved into the tables before seeing something moving in her peripheral vision. It squeaked and fully revealed itself before scurrying between her feet. Nancy squealed before jumping up from her place. The chair she had been sitting fell backward with a heavy clang. "Oops." |
Heaven
Sage pressed his ear to the wall, not able to hear a response, though he could hear someone's body shifting on their bed clear as day. He knew he was heard, but why wasn't he receiving an answer yet? He resumed his former position, but his brooding was no focused on something other than the bullshit afterlife agenda and now on his neighbor. He'd been in Heaven all of about a week, and he knew they threw them up in the free, shittiest of all apartments to ensure that all of the new angels would either a.) get a job or b.) get their asses out onto the battlefield. The latter he knew to be especially true for himself. But whoever his new neighbor was, apparently they were a shut in. He wondered how long he'd been there without his realizing it.Hell Axle sighed, narrowing his eyes at the newcomer. He'd seen this type before. So, he propped his elbows up on the bar, plastered his best “I don't give a shit about you†face, and said “I imagine you would have to actually be heard of to be everyone's anything, let alone anyone's favorite. Tell me, Red, how many angels have you sent back to the mortal realm?†He cocked an eyebrow and grabbed a glass, “To answer your question, just like everywhere else, you ask for one and then you pay. What are you drinking?†|

Luka listened closely to the footsteps approaching the door. He stepped back a little and inhaled sharply when the person opened the door. The man was a bit taller than himself and far more intimidating compared to Luka's demeanor. His voice was husky as if he hadn't talked in forever, but he didn't seem too annoyed by Luka's presence. [Why did you think this was a good idea? Jesus, Luka.]He shook his head in defeat, gesturing to his mouth and throat. He could feel his vision getting cloudy once more, but he didn't want to cry, he was just so, unbelievably frustrated. [I'm Luka! I'm Luka! I just want to speak. I want to have a friend, goddammit this is such a sick game that their playing. Luka covered his eyes with his hands. He was embarrassed and flustered; he should've just stayed in the apartment and pretended not to hear anything. -- "Well, okay, I'm Avani." She smiled sheepishly under the gaze of the girl. She noticed Katarina's antsiness; she did say she was in a hurry. "I-I was going to ask what that did, but I suppose I shouldn't keep you." She swallowed roughly and looked everywhere where there weren't beautiful blue oceans looking back at her. "M-maybe we will see each other around? I really don't want to interrupt your important business." Hell Xander offered a fake laugh before replying harshly. "It's not very nice to speak like that to your customers, is it?" He batted his eyes with a sickly sweet smile. "Besides, I don't keep count on petty things like that. But, if I had to guess, it would probably way too many for your small mind to comprehend," He let his head rest in his hand that was propped up on the counter, "But, I digress." "I'll take a whiskey on the rocks as well as whitey over here." He spun around on his stool to find the other girl who had been quite invisible just before her big scare. "I'll also buy this little squirt an orange juice or something." He gestured lazily. "What do you want anyway?" Nancy looked up in shock. "You can see me now?" Her eyes trailed down to her hands and the rest of her body. Yes, she was no longer camouflaged. "Oh--you, you don't have to get me anything." Xander, clearly not impressed, turned back around. "Yeah, something non-alcoholic." He slid a large bill across the bar in Axel's direction. |
Heaven
Sage had to adjust his gaze slightly lower to look at the man in the face. His eyes screamed discomfort, but he was trying, and Sage had to give that to him. He tried to make it easier by making his posture more casual and less formal when a voice started speaking in his head. “Luka? That's your name?†he said this without thinking, as the voice seemingly came from nowhere. The man on the opposite end of the doorway hadn't moved his lips. “I know this sounds crazy...You uh...didn't you didn't say anything, but I thought I heard a voice saying 'I'm Luka!' so I thought maybe? Does it have to do with your sacrifice?â€Hell “At the Inferno, kid, we don't give a shit about our customers. We don't really need the cash,†Axle's black eyes betrayed no emotion, as if Red's words didn't even graze him. “You're aware they give you the number with each turn in, right? Or are you illiterate?†Axle rolled his eyes only to blink when there was suddenly another person there. |
Heaven Luka's head jolted up to look at his neighbor. He heard me? Wait, can you hear me now? His eyebrows furrowed in complete confusion. Had he not been listening to them when they explained his abilities or had they neglected to tell him completely. This was completely new to him. He smiled a little to himself and covered his mouth with his hand. Please, tell me this is real. -- "I've actually been around for a while, but I wouldn't mind joining you." She shrugged. She didn't really want to intrude, but Kat did offer her to come along. "I don't have anything better to do. And besides, it would do me good to make some friends?" Avani smiled kindly at Kat, her cheeks turning a pinkish hue. Hell Xander giggled. "You're hilarious. I have a feeling we are going to be great friends." He tilted his head and offered a big smile. "Also, don't bother giving me the fancy stuff, I'm a man of simple pleasures. But, I will buy hers and the newbies' drinks." He gestured to the women seated right next to him who had been completely silent throughout the whole interaction. Nancy rolled her eyes. "I'm not a child... but yes, I would very much like a chocolate milk, please." Nancy gave Xander the side-eye before hesitantly sitting next to him. Xander placed a hand on the platinum-haired women's shoulder. "You don't mind if I buy your drink for you, do you?" He asked before letting his eyes travel to the whiteboard. Either she was deaf or a mute. Fortunately, his time in Hell had not been entirely spent killing angels and other demons who had crossed him. He had also taken time to study in old copies or alterations of books from Earth. Xander recalled the time when he studied the many different forms of sign language and decided to give that a try. He only hoped he would not offend her. Buy you drink, can I? He signed as well as anyone who hadn't signed in years. So, it was pretty rough, but at least he was putting forth some effort. |
Heaven
Sage nodded, slowly, mouth agape. He couldn't believe what was happening, “I think 'heard' is the wrong word, but yeah. I understand you. Your voice is in my head...I ah, I guess you gave up your voice? This is a nice way to get around the communication barrier, isn't it? Uh...just nod if I did understand correctly though, you're Luka, yeah?â€> > > “Wonderful! Zen it is a date, erm, well, proverbially speaking that is,†Kat replied, color rising to her pale cheeks, “I'm also in dire need of...well...actual... friends. You don't mind heading to the Hall of Judgment, do you? I know it's looked down on in some circles, but turn-ins have been my primary source of income for a while now.†She lead the way to the Hall, having no fear about linking arms with her new accidental friend.Hell “Yes. Friends,†Axle said, once again rolling his eyes. “You have this kind of money and you're still willing to drink well? I mean, suit yourself, but that doesn't sound like pleasure. It sounds like shit.†Still, he poured the drink and slid it over to him. “Enjoy your piss.†|
Heaven Luka bit his lip in attempts to cover up how ecstatic he was that he could communicate. He nodded in response to Sage. Yes, my name is Luka. The platinum-haired boy stood before Sage probably looking slightly off-kilter. He just couldn't seem to properly express how exciting this new discovery was. However, he let his attention slip to what lay beyond Sage when he gestured behind him. Well, it would be nice to not be all alone in this shitty excuse of an afterlife. Luka covered his smile as he followed Sage into his apartment. It seemed to mirror his own and looked just as bad. Water stained the ceiling and turned it brown. Ah, you don't have to feed me. I'm not sure if there is any point anymore. We are dead, aren't we? He slightly frowned and exhaled heavily before looking down at his wrist where the small chain bracelet dangled. Why--if you don't mind me asking, does food turn to ash? Is it something you sacrificed? == Avani's cheeks visibly darkened at the mention of a date, but she soon recovered just as soon as Kat did. "I could actually use a friend or two as well. I haven't had one in quite awhile." She gave a thoughtful pause, reminiscing about what once was. "And I would love to join you. I don't mind at all if you don't." Avani felt content with the events that had just occurred. Typically, she would've just gotten back up and walked off, but she hadn't met someone who shined so bright since her arrival. As they walked, Kat filled the empty air with questions. "Yes, I have been here for, hmm, maybe ten years?" She scratched the back of her neck. "I've done my fair share of hunting, but lately, I don't know... I just haven't been in the mood. Maybe you can change that?" Avani chuckled and smiled at Kat. Hell Xander stifled a laugh after Axle's sassy remark before turning his attention back to the women. He felt a sort of warmth he hadn't felt in forever when her face lit up. He was glad he had taken the time to learn and study. What is your name? I'm Xander Grimm. He smiled a genuine and sweet smile. It was weird. "D-do you, how do I? Um, sorry, but could I ask you a couple questions?" Her accent grew a little heavy under pressure. She was intimidated by this bartender. His outward appearance and attitude did nothing to calm her nerves, but she also needed to know how to function in a world like this. Did she really have to kill people? |
Heaven
Sage saw right through his attempts, and couldn't help but smile in response to the glow. “Great, so a mode of communication is laid out, which means you can probably do this with other people too,†Sage said, offering his own grin. “Looks like loneliness will only happen if you let it now.†He stepped back into his meager room and plopped down on the sofa, trying to ignore the burst of dust cloud that poofed up under his backside when it made contact with the cushion.> > > The Halls were as enormous as they were immaculate, marble gleaming between the random interspersions of sunlight and cloud, red carpet standing in start contrast to the white walls. Statues stood at attention in place of columns, and two more guarded opposing sides of the desk housing the clerk they needed to speak with. Other angels were there, some right off of the battlefield, others here for the same reason Katarina was – rent was due. Some chatted excitedly with each other, of those, many were apparently raiding parties and had earned their turn-ins together. There were maybe fifteen in all, as this was but one place of many, and not even one of the more impressive Halls. Katarina, and in turn her new friend, took their places in line. “I do it more out of necessity than any actual want to be out there. War is Hell, as the saying goes, no?†Katarina said, “But after being out there, It's...hard to adapt to any other job. So, I kill just enough to get by these days. Hardly any ambition left, I guess. Maybe a new face would help inspire that.â€Hell Olivia was elated that there was someone there that knew sign. Sign was her first language, as both of her parents were deaf, but once she went to school she learned to speak normally in no time. “My name is Olivia Dalloway. Have you been dead long?†She signed, not realizing that that question was, in a sense, a rite of passage for new demons getting to know each other. Age often determined rank, and the longer one had been dead, either the more powerful – or the more respected – they tended to be. Age, so far as the afterlife went, was dictated by time spent dead rather than time spent living. |
Heaven Luka followed Sage to the sofa and sat down as well. He brought his knees up tightly to his chest before resting his chin on them. The cheap and scratchy fabric poked uncomfortably through his white shirt. Luka was curious about Sage's death, but he figured it would still be hard to talk about. Although, it was pretty easy to guess how he died according to his last words. He could have been injured or sick and died in a hospital. Either way, it was still a sore subject that Luka didn't want to mention. He would be upset if Sage asked him about how he died too. To be honest, I wasn't really listening to anything they were saying after my sacrifice. I was pretty lost in thought, I guess. Luka looked anywhere but Sage; it was obvious that he was embarrassed and hurt. I just hope it's something bigger than this. My voice...it was my everything. == Avani nodded in agreement. It had been too long since she was on the battlefield. She hadn't used her abilities for much ever since she stopped going out to hunt. It would do her good to get out and make new friends though. She was willing to do whatever she could to become happy in a world where it was nearly impossible. "So, um, we could go get a drink after this to look for new recruits, yeah?" Hell Xander sat back on his stool and tilted his head to the side before signing a response. More than a century; I died in 1872. And you? Looking back, Xander felt incredibly old, which, he was. However, he supposed age was just a number. He still looked fine as hell. (a/n snort hell is actually a shithole wut) Nancy looked up at Axle warily before bringing the cool glass to her lips. The beverage was rich and sweet. Her tastebuds danced inside her mouth. "Mm, this is really good actually." She giggled a little before settling down once again. "Right, questions. Um, so, I guess, well I was...Jesus, okay." Nancy took a deep breath in before finally speaking. " Alright, so, if I go out hunting I can turn in their weapons for more power or money, right? Are there different groups that you can hunt with? Or do you have to hunt on your own? If I'm at the border, how can I tell whether a person is a demon or an angel? Are there any distinguishing features?" She breathed in sharply realizing how much she had just asked. "Sorry." She mumbled bashfully. |
Heaven
Sage was at a loss of what to do now. In life, making friends wasn't his forte. He'd always been a sickly child and missed a lot of school, leading to no small amount of shyness on the man's part. Shifting, he rest his forearms on his knees and offered a smile, “I think they expected that. You saw the guidebook that they left on the bed, right? It tells you everything you need to know. The thing's a tome for all intents and purposes, and it even has a personalized section at the back based on your sacrifice and new abilities.â€> > > Katarina and Avani went through the entire turn in process and Kat made the deposits she needed to ensure that she was able to continue living where she was. Her place wasn't in the nicest of areas despite how long she'd been dead. She always did just the bare minimum always going out by herself. “Drinks sound excellent. I have a bit left over, so first round's on me!†She led the way to one of her favorite places, one of those hole in the wall joints that the lower classes seemed to love.Hell Olivia hadn't been able to speak to anyone for three days, since she'd died. She'd seen plenty of other angels, but of those, none that she knew of knew sign. She'd been meandering the streets of Hell in silent solitude, and the music that she'd loved so much in life was no relegated to nothing more than the occasional feelings of bass reverberating through her body, even if she couldn't technically hear it. “I've been here three days,†she signed, “You're the first I've met that can sign. Can we be friends?†|
Heaven Luka sighed heavily and looked at the floor where the sun had come in and stained it with gold. Yeah, I saw it. I'm still a bit shaken. I still feel like this is a dream and when I open my eyes again...but if I read the book it just confirms the sickening reality that I'm stuck in. He took the book from Sage and held it in his hands. It was thick with information that he didn't want to know. Pages upon pages riddled with words that would force him to accept something he didn't want to. His fingers traced the lettering on the cover lightly before he set it on the cushion. However, if I am going to be stuck here, I might as well enjoy my time. Yeah, let's go get a drink. Luka guided them out of the apartment building and out onto the golden streets of Heaven. The surrounding buildings towered over them, each busy and worn from the newly dead. This was obviously the place where each person started. What or who you were on Earth meant little to nothing now. Everyone was fair game. People here, however, were at the bottom. No one was scared of anybody. Many people crowded the streets and the two boys maneuvered between the bodies. Different smells came from everywhere and overwhelmed him. Men had makeshift tents where they sold old trinkets and useless clutter. Some women could be seen making greasy food and selling it in exchange for a coin or two. Disheveled angels offered old roses and begged for money. Luka ignored their attempts and pressed on through the endless bustling of the streets. About three blocks down sat an old and overcrowded bar on the corner. Drunk men and women hung in groups outside smoking cigarettes. Sunlight beat down through the light clouds and made everything sticky with sweat. The air felt like dirty honey dripping in his lungs; thick and hot. When they entered the joint, music immediately absorbed the atmosphere and loud voices filled the small space with chaos. Boisterous laughter poured out of drunken mouths as the two of them made their way to the bar. Two other girls leaned up against the counter next to them. It was almost odd to see them here. At least, the smaller girl didn't look like she belonged here. What do you want to drink? == People danced to a small band situated in the corner of the bar. ((a/n listening to Blood On My Name and tbh that's what I imagine they are playing)). Avani tapped her foot lightly to the beat before telling the bartender what she wanted to drink. "Can I get a peach schnapps." Avani stood close to Kat so she could hear her better, but she wasn't quite aware of how close she actually was. "I've never been one for hard alcohol. I like sweets." Avani smiled delightfully before she noticed the two boys standing just behind Kat. One with platinum hair had been staring at her before turning his attention back to his friend. "You said you wanted to find a group for hunting, right? Why don't we look here?" Avani suggested. There were plenty of people, most probably new to Heaven that would still be eager to get out and hunt. She figured it would be the best place to do it. Hell Xander smiled fondly at the girl. Someone wanted to be his friend? But he was actually a huge piece of shit. It shocked him, to say the least, but he wasn't about to decline. Of course, we can be friends. I can show you the ropes. What do you say? Nancy did quite enjoy the concoction that Axle had created. She sipped on it while she listened to Axle. She appreciated his explanation. It was nice to actually talk to someone who knew what they were doing. She had flipped through the book briefly when she arrived at her apartment which was arguably shittier than the worst ones in Heaven. She would have loved to read what the book had said, but she supposed that the book was handed down, the last few pages replaced with her own information held in by a few pieces of tape. The rest of the tattered book had been defaced and faded through the many years of its existence. "Wait, wait, you killed the leader? Why? If you knew you would get in trouble, why would you do that?" Nancy asked, completely confused. What went through this guys' head? |
Heaven
“It's understandable,†Sage said softly, looking down. He almost wished he could be shaken by his own death. But his was always there looming on the horizon, patiently waiting for him to come to it. It was expected. There was no shaking when death was the one stability in his life. “Would you believe it if I told you I am actually better off here than I ever was in life? I feel better than I ever did. I can walk. There's no tubes...no...beeping. It's crazy, but I feel alive more now than ever – if that isn't a bit of irony for you.†|
Heaven Luka looked at the shots and suddenly he was alive again and Ashley was beside him. She looked at him expectantly, urging him to drink. Luka smiled deviously before taking a swig from the half-empty liquor bottle. Luka coughed a little after swallowing earning a laugh from Ashley. "God, that tasted like piss." Luka chuckled and smack his tongue against the roof of his mouth in attempts to rid the awful taste from his mouth. "It gets better, you just have to take another swig." Her voice resonated in his head and he felt a smile come on. Don't be nervous. You'll feel good. Luka smiled before taking the shot, tipping his head back, and swallowing the foul liquid. With flames licking the sides of his throat Luka shook his head and slammed the tiny glass back down again. Avani looked behind Kat once again. The two were drinking now, she figured it would be as good a time as any. They seemed fresh enough, young and willing. Avani took her drink and moved a little closer to them. "Hey, my name is Avani. This is my friend, Kat. We are looking for angels willing to join us in hunting at the Border. Is either of you interested? |
Hell
Olivia smiled, her heart filling with warmth. She had a hard time believing that everyone in Hell truly deserved to be there, and there was the possibility that the demons there gave up the parts of them that led them to Hell to begin with. She didn't know this guy's story, but he was her ticket out of complete involuntary solitude. Did Heaven have a deaf community? That sounds amazing. Are you hearing? How do you know sign? |
Hell Well, yes, I can hear, but over the many years of being here, I got bored. I decided that I would turn to academics for a little while. I learned to sign from some of the older books that they kept at our library. Xander signed, happy to talk to such a sweet girl. He didn't quite know why he had taken a liking to her so quickly. Although, he was enjoying the other's company as well. It was a small, yet amazing group that had gathered in the Inferno that evening. I'm sorry that we have to use such a beautiful language in a such a terrible circumstance. However, I'm thrilled to be able to use it with an absolutely gorgeous lady. Xander didn't mean to come off as a flirt, in fact, he had intended to have the opposite effect. He was just trying to be genuine. "I would have done the same. Really." Nancy sat up straighter on the stool. "You and I may not be all so different." She took another large swig of her drink before sighing heavily. "I was put in jail for murdering my friends' rapist. And, of course, I continued to serve my own kind of justice. Eventually, I got the wrong man. I was sentenced to death and now I'm here." Nancy gestured messily around her head. "But I feel no remorse. I gave that away. Any guilt is gone and I'm glad you don't feel it either. We were right." |
Heaven
Sage tipped his glass back, dumping the contents into his mouth when his eyes went as wide as dinner plates and a mucky mud filled his mouth. Instantly, he was coughing up a black mud and he knew that even something like vodka could turn to ash. He scraped his tongue, desperately trying to get the ashy remnants off. |
Heaven Luka observed the two ladies that had approached them. Both were stunning and wore inviting smiles. He wasn't sure if he was ready to go out to the Border. He didn't know much about Heaven or Hell, but he was sure that if he wanted to die again, that's where he could go. He didn't know how Sage would react, but he hoped that he would want to take it slow. He searched the girls for possible answers before heard Sage from behind. He sounded as though he was choking and soon Luka was turning around to find him with ash in his mouth. Oh, god. Sage, are you okay? The boy was offered a deep crimson drink that he chased the thick, clumpy ash down with. Luka was surprised to see Sage's disgusted state change immediately with the presence of demon's blood inside of him. If this was the only way that Sage could get satisfaction, that would mean he would have to hunt. Luka knew that he didn't have to join, but he also didn't know if he could survive without hunting. It was inevitable, completely unavoidable. Luka exhaled heavily before turning to the two women. We are new and we may not be good out on the field, but we would be interested in joining you. How soon do you plan on going to the border? |
Hell
Olivia bit her lip, suddenly grateful for her parents' disability and her need to learn sign growing up. That's very responsible of you, and I'm glad you had an interest in it, Olivia signed, her hands and arms moving rapidly, her face reflecting her gladness. She felt guilty about ignoring the others, but they seemed to be in their own conversation, and she had no method of communicating with them anyway, unless they both faced her and had patience enough to let her write out responses. So she was perfectly alright with being enamored in the conversation she was in. Pale cheeks turned to roses and she bit her lip, I don't know what to say...Thank you. You're quite handsome yourself... |
Hell I know. Xander chuckled jokingly. No, but really, thank you. Also, if you need me to, I can be your translator? He suggested this only because he figured it would be easier for her to communicate her thoughts if she didn't have to write them down. And, maybe, he felt like he wasn't the only person she wanted to talk to. Nancy laughed in response. "Pleased to meet your acquaintance. I'm Nancy: fellow customer and a new demon of Hell. I would be delighted to be your hunting partner because I don't know how shit around here works." |
Heaven
Katarina's fingers gripped the handle to her mug, enjoying a good beer when she got one, and this was definitely one of the better. Nice and stout, just as she asked. The good beer, however, was not on the foreground of her thoughts and she peered over her mug to the struggling new angel, her face contorted to one of worry. |
Heaven Luka swallowed the nervous lump in his throat and nodded. Yes, we will make sure to stick out for each other. Although, still wary of these two women, Luka meant every word that he said. He was still frightened of what lay ahead, but if hunting at the Border meant that Sage could have some relief, then he would do it. What do you think, Sage? Avani observed the white-haired boy in front of her. He looked a little shaken, like a dog when it's being yelled at. She tilted her head in confusion. If the boy was so afraid to hunt, she wondered, why would he even be willing to join their group? "Could you remind us of your names again? Your friends' name is Sage, correct? |
Hell
Olivia was radiant, lighting up for the first time since she died. For the first time since she died, she didn't regret her sacrifice. She'd given up what was most precious to her – music – and left herself in solitude, and for what? Some sort of shiny weapon summoned to kill angels? She hadn't even used it yet. Was it possible it was for nothing? Xander showing up changed that. The music she could never get back, but now there was no need for solitude. That would be wonderful! And I thought I was lucky to have only one person to talk to. Do you live around here? |
Hell Xander tipped his head back and laughed, his shoulders moving up and down. Here? No, no. I don't live around here. I live, well, I'll have to show some other time. Xander signed after he remembered that Olivia probably didn't have a very good idea of where things were in Hell. But, this was definitely not the best side. That might have been the reason why Xander liked to come and hang around places like these. Although, he did fancy luxurious living. His best investment, he always thought, was his penthouse. It had the best view of this shithole. He fell in love with the sounds of war in the distance and the cold glow of a midnight sky. However, so much space did make him quite lonely. Xander was never the best at making friends, which was evident. However, this evening, in one of the shittiest bars in Hell, he had made one. I actually have extra rooms at my place. I could train you for the battlefield. You can pay me back by being my hunting buddy! Xander took a shot in the dark, but he didn't quite know how to hold onto a friend. Was he moving too fast? Was it weird for him to ask Olivia, a woman, into the house of a man she only just met? The answer: yes, very much so, but Xander was completely unaware. Nancy grasped Axle's hand and finalized the deal. "Yes, I was actually able to read that part in my Guide. Deciphering what was written on the other pages was futile, however." She chuckled a little to herself. The book, she remembered as she held in her hands, was nearly falling apart. The guides pages were warped and the ink, once beautifully written, was running and smudged. "Since I didn't sacrifice something that was significant to me I was given the ability to become invisible to everyone, including myself." |
Heaven
Sage shook his head and turned from the bartender back to the conversation with his new friend. He'd gained the attention of two ladies, one dark, one white. “Hm? Sorry about that, I ah...I missed the conversation, I was learning how I can drink given my uh...my curse,†Sage muttered scratching the back of his head. |
Heaven Luka hesitantly nodded, taking a sip of his drink. Of course, he was nervous. No, scratch that. He was petrified to go out and hunt. He thought it quite unfair that he was on the last leg of his senior year before he was killed and shoved into a life of murder. He didn't want to kill Demons whom, in fact, had been living, breathing human beings like himself. Although he couldn't argue with what was against him. He had to make a living and get a nicer flat. Y-yeah, no. I'm still in--I was in high school. Luka frowned a little before continuing. But I'm willing to do it if it means that I can get paid and Sage can get his Demon blood. Luka glanced back at Sage. He didn't know why he was going against all of his morals for money and the chance to please this boy whom he barely knew. |
Hell
Olivia tilted her head as if wondering if she'd said something strange. But then, it made sense. Those that lived the longest would naturally accumulate more wealth. Of course he wouldn't be living in these parts, Olivia thought to herself so she signed, I'd like to see it sometime! I'm sure it's better than the shithole they gave me. |
Hell Xander averted his eyes and scratched the back of his neck. Right, of course. He signed hesitantly and visibly grimaced. It's only natural for you to be wary. I apologize for my over-enthusiastic behavior. Xander was choking himself on the inside. That wasn't creepy at all. And although Olivia hadn't completely declined what he thought was a very normal and kind gesture, she hadn't said no. But, it did not make the situation any less painful and awkward. But, yes, that would work out just fine. And Olivia, you don't have to worry about that. I've got your back. Once you become accustomed to your abilities, you'll realize that you don't need to hear them coming. You'll be wonderful, I promise. Nancy shook her head before pulling out the small amount of beginner's money. "I don't have much money, but this should be enough to buy a cheap phone, right?" She placed it on the bar; coins rolled away and the crumpled bills sat in an untidy pile. "Also, how much do I owe you for the drink?" |
Heaven
Sage was a bundle of emotions all hidden behind a near stoic face. First, he'd just figured out that demon's blood was better than anything he'd ever tasted. To equate it to honey would be a gross mistake. It was far more exquisite. If the thought didn't sicken him, it would have made the sacrifice worth it. They'd explained as he was making his sacrifice that he would, for all intents and purposes, need to reap the souls of demons; he knew he'd be killing. But to eat them too, to think that their flesh likely tasted even better than their blood. Hunting only seemed like the next logical step. He would have to swallow his honor to partake, and Luka was obviously uncomfortable with the topic. |
Heaven Avani recalled a time when she felt similarly to Luka. She was petrified when she had first entered Heaven. She didn't have a clue what she was doing; she almost couldn't believe it was real. "Hey, doll. You doing okay?" Avani stood frozen outside of her apartment. Her lips quivered slightly as she tried to capture reality. She kept slipping in and out of her mind. She could still feel his calloused hands on her skin and the fiery liquid seeping into her eyes. Her screams repeated inside of her head. She still pleaded and begged. But it was over now. It was all over, and now she was starting again. Hun? You don't seem so well. Do you need a drink? Avani finally pulled away from her the prison in her head. It's thick, metal bars crumbling away like Autumn leaves under her feet. She was welcomed with a sweet and crooked smile. "You're new here aren'cha? Avani only offered a quiet nod in response. That's okay. I'll show ya' around. It's always scary on the first day. The very tall woman took her hand and pulled her along the shimmering sheets. I'm Bobbi. What's your name, honey? Bobbi's gravelly voice was comforting and blocked out all negative thoughts. Avani felt warm almost instantly. I'm Avani. Her accent was heavy and rich then. She spoke quietly, though, so it went almost completely unnoticed. Bobbi smiled sweetly before pulling her through an alley. It was busy and dirty. She wondered where this woman was taking her. Old wooden boards stretched across the metal staircases that clung to the side of the buildings. Neon lights flickered in the sun that crept through the cracks between the sagging boards. The sign burned a Saturday night kind of pink and greeted the two girls before they entered. It took a little for her eyes to adjust to the dim lighting. The fresh coffee ground smell permeated through the air and fairy lights hung lowly around their heads. "I've gotta new one!" Bobbi exclaimed. Avani, stilled confused, observed her surroundings and tried to decipher just where she was. People sat in bean bags and old, tattered couches. Each person looked nothing like the other, but they all were grinning and happy. Some held books in their hands and others chatted quietly amongst themselves. "What is this place?" Avani asked in a low voice. "You can think of it as a safe place." Bobbi smiled widely. "You can feel protected here." She rested a reassuring hand on Avani's shoulder before introducing her to the rest of the crew. "This is Avani. She's a new angel here! Different voices welcomed her into the coziness of the room. Avani was ushered over to an open space on one of the couches. Bobbi brought over some water for Avani before sitting down herself. Avani wasn't scared anymore. She knew she would be alright. This was a strange way for her to become accustomed to Heaven, but she figured it would be nice if Luka had that same treatment. "If you don't want to do it, you don't have to, but just know that we would look out for you." Avani grinned. "Us angels have to stick together and watch each other's backs." Luka bit his lip. He was terrified of what this all could mean for him. He didn't want to die again, but he also knew that if he didn't hunt, that would happen anyway. Luka didn't want to abandon Sage either. Yeah, I'll do it. We do have to stick together. Luka turned back to Sage and offered a smile and a small nod. I can do it. |
Hell
Olivia's brow creased, worried that she'd offended her only friend and she quickly put a comforting hand on his shoulder, her eyes begging forgiveness. She pulled away only to sign It isn't a no. Not even close. I just will want to wait a little before submitting my change of address forms, okay? She did not want to chase away her only friend. And besides, she was already dead, she knew no one else in Hell (she assumed those that she knew that died most likely wound up in Heaven), and this guy was really cute. Then, she always had a thing for gingers. |
Hell Nancy grimaced, staring at the sad excuse of money in front of her and Axle. "Thank you. I-I promise to repay you." A fake chuckle escaped her lips as she picked up the bills and loose change, shoving them clumsily into her pocket. Xander smiled and looked down at the ring that circled around his thumb in a dark metallic color. He had remembered the day when he got it but knew nothing about what had happened before. He had no clue as to how he wound up in Hell or how he died. He just knew that one day he was here. There is no rush. I realize now that my offer was quite creepy. I did not intend for it to be. He didn't want to lose his newly acquired friend. Somehow, she didn't mind his inability to function like a normal person. "Hey, Bartender! Do you want to hunt with us?" Xander asked, grinning, still facing Olivia. |
Heaven
Katarina's fingers clung to the handle of her mug and she took a large swig. She was excited to have people to hunt with, but these two were fresh off the proverbial boat. They'd have to train them from the ground up, and she didn't even know what abilities they had. Obviously, they both sacrificed parts of them that were precious to them – Luka's voice and Sage's sense of taste. “Avani's right,†she finally said to add to the conversation, “Us angels stick together. We'll train you, keep you alive, and make you the best damn demon hunters Heaven has ever seen. Now, do either of you know anything about your abilities?â€Hell Axle shook his head, sighing, “No, dear. You will not. I won't take it. Take it as a “Welcome to Hell†gift, aight? My shift ends in an hour. If you stick around until then, I'll take ya to get a new one. Also a ride. My board's good, but you'll have to learn how to use one if we're gonna hunt. They don't have those on Earth yet, right? Hoverboards? Eh, whatever, if you don't know how to use one, that'll be our first lesson. Nothing is more important than mobility on the battlefield, because sometimes it's best just to run. Pride will get you killed.†The black-eyed demon spoke with a self-assurance that seemed only to tell of his experience. In relativity to the redhead, he was still just a baby demon – albeit one that gained powers quickly if only because of his regular appearances at the Border. |
Heaven Luka scratched the back of his head. He was still embarrassed about having to explain why he didn't know the extent of his abilities. One would think that one would take all the time they needed to explore their abilities in a world where that was what would keep them alive. But alas, Luka had not done any of that. I actually wasn't really listening when they explained what my powers would be. I have yet to read the Guide as well. So far, all I know is that I have telepathy. Luka averted his eyes sheepishly and turned a deep shade of pink. Luka felt like he was already falling behind. His nerves were holding him back from the rest of the group. He knew the least about anything in this new world and he was terrified. Luka wasn't even sure if he was scared of hunting anymore. Perhaps, he was just overwhelmed. The alcohol taste hadn't left his lips yet, but he felt its sickening flames churn in his stomach. I-I'm sorry. "There is no need to apologize." Avani smiled reassuringly at the anxious boy standing in front of her. "I was in the same place as you when I first arrived. And, I'm sure there are plenty of other angels who've experienced this too. You'll be good." Luka looked up at the woman. He finally had time to fully absorb her appearance and her voice. She was very beautiful. Freckles littered her cheeks and her eyes were a multicolored masterpiece in comparison to her dark brown hair. Her voice was like caramel in his ears and he felt his shoulders fall and relax. He showed his gratitude in a slowly widening smile. "Katarina, shall I take Luka back to his place so he can read his Guide and then we will meet you at the training arena?" Hell "I never knew much of what was going on outside of the prison. But I doubt it was anything as extravagant as hoverboards. Nancy chuckled. "I really appreciate you doing this for me. I'm sure the least I could wait for your shift to be over. Then we can get started! She smiled and rested her head on her hand before taking a sip of her drink using the straw. Xander searched the girls' face for any sign of exaggeration. Typically, no one was ever this nice to him unless they wanted something. He had been used countless times since his time in Hell. His money was always something people tried to get their hands on. But this time, Xander didn't think Olivia had bad intentions. For fuck's sake, she just called him cute. Cute? The Grimm fucking Reaper was just called cute by an adorable, platinum-haired girl. No one ever liked him, but somehow Olivia did. Xander smiled warmly at the girl before signing again. You wouldn't mind joining the two behind us in hunting, would you? It's better, in my opinion, if we have a larger group. |
Heaven
Katarina took another large swig of her beer. It wasn't often she got out for a drink, and she'd ordered the largest mug they had – and it was already almost gone. Her belly was full and she was beginning to feel the effects. Tipsy. It was a good place to be. “Well, lucky for us, we have time. My rent is already paid for the month, and once we start hunting we'll be doing just fine as far as finances go!†She moved behind her friend to get closer to Luka and put her hand on his shoulder, “I understand that death is hard to grapple with, especially if it was sudden. Mine was and I was a wreck when I first got here. It took me months to swallow my cowardice and get to the Border.â€Hell Axle grinned and looked at the clock again. For the first time in a long while, he was excited to get off of work. His job at the Inferno wasn't needed, not technically. He made more than enough with his side activities to pay for what he needed to – and much more. He lived simply and earned plenty. The Inferno just gave him a reason to see people that he wasn't trying to kill. It eased his loneliness. Now, his empty apartment wouldn't be so hard to face. He had friends again. “It's no big. Trust me, I can swing it just fine. If you need another drink while we wait, I can put somethin' together for you.†|
Heaven "Alright, shall we?" Avani asked, motioning towards the exit. Luka nodded before he led the way. It was not at all difficult to get from the bar to Luka's beginner's apartment. Just around the corner and down the street for a couple of blocks and they would be there. "I-uh...I died abruptly as well. I had just gotten married, but I was young. I didn't want to do the things that he wanted to do and I guess that was worth taking someone's life for." They weaved through the still crowded streets, walking side by side. I don't even really know how I died. I was walking and it was pretty late. No one was on the streets and it was silent. I accidentally dropped my wallet at the crosswalk. When I went back to get it...everything was really bright for a second. And then it was black. I didn't feel anything, so I guess, it was instant. Luka swallowed harshly. It hurt to talk about it, but miraculously he felt better that he finally said something about it. His stomach still churned, but his shoulders felt a little lighter. He smiled. I suppose I should be thankful that that's how I died. Avani listened intently to Luka. The boy, now permanently silent, still resonated loudly in her. She felt for Luka; for he was not much older than herself when she had been murdered. Follow me, it's this building up ahead. Luka took the steps leading up to the building two at a time. The creaky, wooden steps wound around tightly up to the second and then the third story to where Luka's apartment resided. Room 211, it read in rusted metal numbers. He hadn't even cared to lock the door when he first left the apartment, there was nothing to steal. He opened the door and welcomed Avani inside. Just like he had predicted, nothing had been touched. The kitchen sink still dripped, its sounds somehow louder now. Metal pipes could be heard above their heads in the ceiling, working in the only way that they could; terribly. Welcome, to this massive shithole. Luka gestured lazily around him before he walked over to his bed where the guide sat patiently waiting to be opened. This guide, unlike the ones in Hell, was completely new. The ink still smelt fresh in the pages. So, they go more into detail about my capabilities in the back, right? Avani switched her attention from her surroundings to the boy sitting on the small, lousy bed. She walked over and sat down beside him. Yeah, it should be there. They usually list all of the things you need to know. It would be in your best interest if you study up a little. Sometimes survival is more than how well you can fight. Luka nodded before flipping to the few pages in the back of the guide before finally reading. Now that you have taken the time to learn about Heaven and how it works you can finally read about your sacrifice got you in exchange for your new abilities and/or weapons. Before entering Heaven, you were given the choice to sacrifice anything in exchange for a weapon or special ability to help in your survival. As you know, the more significant the sacrifice was to your life, the greater the weapon. You, Luka James Burdette, sacrificed your voice. On Earth, your greatest aspiration was to be a musician. Your voice was what grounded you, what allowed you to escape. Music was what your life revolved around, and you gave up the capability to make it. Your sacrifice, large and difficult, has given you telepathic powers as well as the ability to manipulate what your opponent can see and hear. Essentially, you are able to give your enemy hallucinations that work to your benefit. You can control what these people see or they can take their own shape depending on how strong the targetted person's aura is. This method of attack can be incredibly beneficial to you as well as any hunting partner you may have at the Border. However, this power can also be used for any situation, not just bad ones. The bracelet on your wrist holds your power. If you are killed, this is what your enemy will take in exchange for money and new powers. All other angels and demons have an item like yours, just in different forms. Luka cleared his throat a little bit. Clearly, I have telepathy, but I can also manipulate sound and vision. Luka shrugged. He was thankful that he was given something useful. He just didn't quite know how he could control it just yet. He figured that it was just a matter of time, though. "That will help you out a lot on the battlefield! Actually, it could help us all out." Avani smiled widely before giving the boy and light pat on the shoulder. "Are you ready to go try it out?" She asked eagerly. Luka smiled at her enthusiasm before he nodded. They both left the building in a rush of nerves and readiness. Off to the practice arena! Hell "I actually can't hold alcohol well, so, I just assume that I don't." Nancy put her palm over the rim of the glass. "Thank you for the offer, though. She smiled warmly at Axle. H-how long have you been in Hell?" Nancy asked, trying to make small talk. Although, Axle didn't seem like the type to enjoy that kind of talk. Xander gave a breathy laugh and then began to sign. I don't know them at all. But, I don't know anyone else. Xander shrugged. Besides, if I tried hard enough, I'm sure I could annoy the bartender enough for him to kill literally six people simultaneously. |
Hell
Finished with his drink, Axle began to wash his glass, going so far as to polish it and place it back on the rack when he was done, laughing. “You can't hold your alcohol, so the first place you go when you die is to...a bar? And alright, alright, no more booze, but don't say I never did anything for ya.†Axle grabbed one of the empty glasses from the other two, moving to wash those as well wanting to just get up and walk out rather than focus on sidework when his replacement came in. “How long have I been in Hell? I guess that depends on what year it is in the land of the living. 2018? Yeah? Thirty-five years? Sounds about right. That long.†How long he'd been in Hell was one of the easy questions. The hard ones came when he had to explain why he was there (though most didn't bother asking him, just assuming someone who looked like him would end up there anyway) and events that happened once he got there. |
Hell "I didn't really come here in search of alcohol. More so for a person who knew how to help me. Though, I didn't speak up at first because, believe it or not, you're quite--uh, how should I put this?--terrifying?" Nancy snickered, letting her finger tap on her chin thoughtfully. "But it's a good thing we are talking, yes? Thirty-five years in this place ought to mean you know a thing or two." I don't about that either. I've seen plenty like him though. He's got to be carrying some mighty powers. I just know it. Xander peered over his shoulder a little while he signed. I wouldn't dare cross him, but what's the harm in having a little fun. It might also be beneficial to have him on our crew, yeah? Xander spun around in his stool till he was facing the bar. "Olivia and I want both of you to hunt with us, but only if you wish to." His hands moved along with his words. It was difficult, but he was signing what he was saying. He didn't want Olivia to be out of the loop. Xander turned his head a little towards Olivia afterward and smiled, then winked. |
