[M] She's My Collar // Throw Me a Bone! { Spider x Worm }
HALCYON |
Ashlynne Glass
Ashlynne, from deep sleep, sat up suddenly, every hair on her arms standing on end. Her waking didn't stop the noises, however. She wasn't dreaming. Running her hand over the half-shaved side of her head, the first thing her mind went to was I'm getting robbed again? She pulled out her gun from under her pillow. Unfortunately, this kind of thing was entirely too common, but she was ready. She'd been through this before. The door to her living quarters (if they could be called that, that is, if this was "living") flew open was she kicked it open cocking her gun, "Alright. Drop whatever it is you've picked up. I worked hard to get to where I am, and I'm not about to give it up." Seeing who the perpetrator was, however, she froze, eyes wide. I have a goddamned werewolf in my living room... |
HALCYON
|
Ash~
Ash lowered the gun immediately, seeing it. That distinctive scar trailing down his cheek, the whitened pupil. There was one human who she'd seen before who had it--one that she'd only seen at the restaurant. Revelations, her go to diner, had the most colorful cast of characters employed she'd ever seen, possibly the most colorful being that of Halcyon. "Is...is that you...? Hal? Hal, right?" |
HALCYON
What did she call him? He extended his nose, sniffing in her direction. Yes, she was quite familiar. He whimpered, unsure of how to react. He backed up into a corner and growled again at the girl, feeling intimidated in her domain. |
Ash There was a whimper, that's good. He might recognize me...Maybe. Ash crouched down, deliberately putting herself at a lower position than the wolf, gently setting the gun down and putting her hands up, "Look, see? I'm not going to hurt you. I work at the diner you usually work at. You know, I take up the booth closest the kitchen and get coffee refills for a couple hours at least twice weekly? That's me...My name is Ash." |
HAL
He growled one more time before snatching up a bag of bread in his paws. He squeezed past the girl once she put her gun down and made his way for the window. In one fell swoop, he made it out of her shoddy apartment and onto the cold, midnight grass. He howled on his way home. |
Ash
Ash stood there, chest rising with every ragged breath as she watched the creature slid, liquid fur, out of her open window. She could hear the howls as they grew more distant and slowly she made her way to the window, closed it, picked up the gun and slid it under her pillow and collapsed on the bed. She barely slept that night. |
HALCYON
It was strange, ever since he'd started sleepwalking, Hal never felt rested. He stood in the shower, but he didn't feel like he was in his body. Sure, he scrubbed, but this was just muscle memory. Inside his head, all he could think of was this voice that seemed to call out to him. It said his name. It sounded like someone he knew but he couldn't place it. |
ASH
Ash woke too close to noon for her comfort but the previous night's rest proved to be less than fruitful. She couldn't place when she'd actually drifted off into a restless sleep, but it came to her only after what felt like hours of staring at the ceiling. No matter, Hal's shift generally started in the afternoon's so she could make it. Fiddling around with her coin purse, she gave it a quick shake and hearing a small jingle, she knew that she at least had enough for a coffee. Good enough. She was out of breath from half-running when she stepped into Revelations with reddened cheeks and slid into her usual spot. |
HALCYON
Hal took his notepad from the counter and made his way past the kitchen. There was a voice in his head, and it was saying his name. He couldn't quite place where it was coming from. "Long night buddy?" One of the cooks blurted out over the sizzling of stoves and fryers. "Ah, you could say that." He tried to force a chuckle. Then he saw her, the girl who always got coffee in the corner. And for the life of him, he couldn't remember her name. He swallowed hard, and walked up to her table. He brushed his hair back from his face and made sure to tuck in his shirt before approaching her. |
ASH
Ash offered her brightest smile, which admittedly, wasn't that bright. She was a punk through and through, and the most radiant of smiles couldn't change the scars she had on her face, her chipping nail polish completed with the chewed off look, her clothes strewn with rips and tears. In another time, another place, she might have been pretty. "Sure do. It's almost as if I'm a regular, eh? Hal, right?" |
HALCYON
Hal let out his hyena laugh, as the cooks liked to call it. It didn't sound like a hyena, but Hal reminded them of one because of his dingy looks and late night habits. Which, he wasn't too sure he even had. When she said his name, it rang in his head a couple extra times. He shook it before he could respond. "That it is. I'm shitty with names." He rubbed the back of his neck, blushing lightly. |
Ash
Ash grinned, leaning back in her seat. Hal was the only one in the diner who never bitched about her hogging up a booth buying only a cup of coffee. He was the only one who didn't look at her sideways when she came in straight from her job as a mechanic. So, when he asked her name she didn't hesitate with the truth, " It's Ashlynne. Folks at the shop just call me Ash. You can choose either." |
HALCYON
"Ash! That's right! I knew that." He smiled, backing up towards the kitchen now. The smile didn't leave his face. She was a grungy girl which he felt strangely drawn to. He was never the type to court model-esque women or people out of his league. Most of the time they were boring and shallow. Besides, he'd be waiting his whole life for a ten. He was more like a four or five. He was lanky, and scarred. At least he was tall. |
Ash~<3
Ash could hear the unbridled laughter from the other room where she sat and, figuring she was the brunt of the joke, smirked. Of course, she had no way of knowing this for certain, but if she could see how Hal looked at her, it could only be assumed that his coworkers also could see it. |
HALCYON
He stroked back his long, grey hair, a smile permanently attached to his face. "Yeah! I'd love to." He chuckled, surprised with her fast response. To be honest, he wasn't sure if the girl was even into dudes. The night went quickly, as it always did. At his 10 pm lunch break, he was happy to see his punk rock vixen still at her seat. He swaggered over and slid down on the opposite side of her booth. |
ASH
Ash, too, couldn't seem to contain herself. For the several hours that she spent in the diner, she'd find herself grinning like a schoolgirl every time they made eye contact. The feelings were genuine, and it definitely seemed like for once in her life, Ash would not be single. She propped her elbows on the table as she poured herself another glass but slid the hot liquid over to him in case he needed it after his long shift. "I could eat. What are you thinking?" |
HALCYON
He was surprised to see how much Ash had already drank from the pitcher. He filled his own mug. "I'm gettin' the cherry pie. Its real good here. And god damn, how much coffee do you drink girl?" He chuckled, shaking his head as he sat the pitcher down. He liked his coffee black, so took a slurp immediately after. After his lunch break, he only had two more hours before he could go home. Hopefully, he'd actually remember tonight. |
ASH
Ash held her hands out to reveal that the woman was practically vibrating with the coffee, the fact that she hadn't eaten all day yet making the problem only that much worse."Answer your question?" she asked, eyes shining. She was a coffee fiend to say the very least, but she was also a fiend for pie. "Oh, would you believe that I've never had the pie here? Never had the currency to get any. So, I guess it must be my lucky day. I'll have the same." |
HALCYON
Hal grinned watching Ash's caffeinated hands shake. "Yeah, I think this pie will do the trick." He wasn't all too surprised about her financial status. After all, he'd been serving her long enough that he knew she never ordered food. The coffee was less than a buck for endless refills. She was probably running the place dry. It couldn't be good for her. But what was these days? He stood up, slapped the table gently and said: "I'll be right back with our pie." |
ASH
Ash licked her lips upon seeing the pie. Nothing looked more delicious in her entire life. Sure, she'd seen other customers order it, but this was her slice of pie. She was also very forward about her financial situation to see if it deterred him, and noticed with joy that it didn't stop him at all. He was into her. "Thanks. For uh, this. It's not very often I get to actually eat here. Well, I've never eaten here, she added mentally. |
HALCYON
Though Hal knew all too well that the girl never ate here, he didn't feel the need to correct her. He'd heard some rumors about Ash, sure, but never that she was a witch. The worst he'd heard were highly sexual and he wasn't sure if he wanted to know if they were true or not. Most of the guys at Revelations were total scumbags anyways. So it was no surprise that he worked here. He did love to see her laugh and smile though. "Hell, I s'pose being called a witch is better than being called a drunk. I rarely touch the stuff!" He scoffed, looking over his shoulder at his busy working mates. |
ASH
"Shit. Seems gossip finds ways to hurt us all, huh? But that's not even the most common. That was just the uh...weirdest. Neighbors to the left of my apartment are the ones saying that. The rest just either think I'm a whore or a druggy." She shrugged, laughing again at the absurdity of it all. Yes, it was true, she did partake of the devil's lettuce once in a while, but she rarely dabbled in anything harder. The shop didn't test, but she didn't want to risk dealing with machinery with the leftovers of a good night before. When it came to lovers? She swung both ways, but never looked. She was too busy loitering at a diner with a cute waiter. |
HALCYON
Hal was pleasantly surprised with the conversation he was having. He leaned back, listening to Ash lament. "I guess these days, its good to have thick skin." He looked away for a moment, ready to see how she'd react to his next comment. "Y'know. First time I met you, I thought you were a lesbian." He chuckled. "Still not sure, but I figured it was worth a shot. I never take someone by how they look. Met too many fake people who made you think they had the best lives in the world.... They were the saddest of all. I didn't get the whore vibe from you though." He grinned. It wasn't to say that he didn't think she was into some strange shit, he was almost sure of that. It was worth it to him to find out. |
ASH
"Yeah, it really is," Ashlynne held up a pair of calloused hands, "Good thing it comes with the job, huh?" She didn't hold them up long though, as soon the fork was back between her fingers and she was shoveling another mouthful of pie into her gob. "You know? You're not exactly wrong. Only partially, I guess. I'm bi or whatever, but I don't sleep with everyone I see, contrary to everyone's beliefs," she waggled her eyebrows, "...and hopes. But here I am, eh?" |
HALCYON
Hal smirked under Ash's comments. At least his instincts weren't too far off. He shrugged. After all, it didn't really matter. It was just nice to not feel judged by someone. Until she pointed out his scar. He growled. "Yeah, what of it?" He spat out. To be honest, he didn't even remember how he got the damned thing. Another one of his black out spells. He woke up one morning, in a haze as usual. His pillow was bloody. His face was wet, everything was blurry. He had to call a buddy to come stitch him up. Just ended up having to go to a hospital. |
ASH
Ash drew her hand back immediately, her feelings hurt. What she'd meant to imply obviously didn't translate. She'd meant to be sexy. So much for that, she thought. "I uhm...I didn't mean that. I just..ah..I guess I just trying to... uh...talk. I thought that it would be a nice talking point. I didn't know it was a a uhm...sensitive topic to you." She got to her feet, "Sorry to have bothered you." |
HALCYON
Hal bit his lip. It seemed that he'd responded rather brashly. "No, no. I'm sorry. Its just that... I don't even remember how I got it..." he chuckled, realizing how silly the whole thing was. "I mean, I'd like to at least have a story behind it." he finished up his pie, noticing that it was almost time for him to get back to work. So he slurped down his coffee too. |
ASH
Ash had been ready to leave right then and there, fearing that what she'd said had caused wounds beyond repair. Stopping, she turned to look at him in order to ascertain certainty that she'd been forgiven and slowly she sat. "I...suppose that makes sense," she said, each word deliberate. I wonder if he remembers last night? The scars are identical, but I fuckin' knew they would be. He's the wolf, he's gotta be. And if that's the case...then he earned the scar while a wolf... She let the grin spread across her face, "A black out? Maybe you lead a double life... I think if anything it just makes you all the more bloody interesting. Listen, I come here to loiter on my days off. Today is one of those days, so I can stick around until the end of your shift if you wanna walk with me. I have a story you might find interesting." |
HALCYON
Hal scoffed, feeling the heat rising in his face as he blushed. This might've been the first time he'd told someone about his blackouts. At least outside of his family. Even in the loony bin, he didn't like to talk about it. He nodded, surprised with how Ash was handling it. "Yeah, I suppose so." He chuckled. He'd like to think that his mysterious black outs made him sexier. In reality, they made him nervous and afraid. No matter how little he showed it. He was afraid that he wouldn't remember what he was doing, no matter how insignificant. Though it helped him value any times he did remember. Like when he was a kid and would play with his family dogs. There were three of them. |
ASH
Ash could do little more than smile and raise her mug, "Can do, though you seem to have left me well taken-care of." No matter, she'd enjoy the eye candy in the meantime. She'd brought a notebook with her to keep her occupied until he got done with his shift. Ideally, he'd actually buy what she had to tell him. Do they ever turn on non-full moon nights? Hopefully he'd enjoy her company enough as a werewolf that he wouldn't eat her... |
HALCYON
From that moment, his shift went by in a blur. Hal grabbed his hoodie from the employee area. He was moving with no conscious effort, in fact he was half asleep. This normally happened around midnight, and for some reason, progressively it would wax and wane with the moon's cycles. He wobbled back towards Ash's table. "Alright, let's go." He threw a thumb behind him, pointing towards the door. His eyes were droopy and exhausted. |
ASH
Hal raised her eyebrows at her prospective date. He looked haggard, to say the very least. He was stumbling and appeared to be half asleep, so she felt impelled to say, “Hey man, are you feeling alright? We can rain check this if you want...” Then, if he is actually turning into a werewolf nightly, he probably doesn't get any actual sleep. Of course he's tired. “But, if we're still on, of course I'd love to walk with you.” |
Hal quirked his head, unsure what exactly Ash was saying. It all was pretty hazy. Something about rain? He looked outside the windows, covered in handprints and faceprints from an earlier customer's kid. It looked dark, but not rainy. He shook his head. "Nah, let's go. I want to hear your story." He grinned, pulling his jacket over his shoulders. |
ASH
"Alright. If you're sure you're okay," Ash said, a tinge of hesitation in her voice. Regardless, she didn't want to miss this opportunity and soon the pair were outside with the cool night air reddening their cheeks. This weather was Ash's favorite--cold, but not windy. Enough that one's breath could look like one's soul leaving the body. They were alone now, and Ash was given the opportunity to tell her story. |
HALCYON
A poof of steam came off of his face as they walked outside. It was perfectly chilled. Hal huffed just to watch the steam come out as he wriggled the hood of his jacket over his head. "Last night?" He shrugged, unsure why this was a topic of intrigue. "I uh - I worked? Uhm... I know I woke up this morning with a bag of bread torn up on my chest." He chuckled. |
ASH
Ash took her steps as carefully as she chose her words, "Well, I think I know where you were at, at least for a little bit, between working and your waking up this morning..." She swallowed, pausing and letting the footsteps make the noise for a moment when she stepped in front of him walking backwards and looking up at him, "Can I promise you won't think I'm crazy?" |
HALCYON
Hal turned his head to Ash, a bit concerned about what might come out next. "Oh yeah?" He kicked a rock into the street after speaking. "I don't think I could find you crazy." He meant that he wasn't sure any of this was real anyways. |
ASH
"Yeah. Well," Ash's eyes locked onto the rock and she kicked it further ahead of them, "Alright. Then. Hooo, here we go." She exhaled loudly not knowing at all how to say what she was about to say, "Okay, well, I think I saw you last night. But you weren't really you. You know, you were a...a...well? You were a wolf. You were, like, full lycanthropic. You were a wolf man. I think that's why you're tired all the time and wake up in strange places." She gulped and looked up at him sheepishly, expecting the worst response. |
