Seeking Roleplay!

Alright, so I have been off the roleplaying circuit for a couple years really, but I have a little over a decade of experience so while I don't usually write a novel, I do consider myself literate.

I prefer to roleplay original content and characters, but if it is a fandom I know quite a bit about I don't mind taking up the occasional cannon character. (Okay so this is pretty much only J.R.R. Tolkien stuff, but I am willing to do a little research if it is something that really interests me.)

I also have really been wanting to kind of run someone through basically a single player version of a D&D/Pathfinder campaign.

Anyway, my preferred method of roleplay would be here in the forums.

Worm 11-13-2017 09:11 PM

Aaaa~ A D&D campaign would be awesome. QwQ
I've never played tabletop versions, but I feel like I can definitely grasp it.
I'd be down for single player or group.

Also, any genres you dig in particular?

Mekatra 11-13-2017 10:26 PM

It's basically just roleplaying with a few extra rules and some dice rolls thrown in. If there were two to four people interested in playing I might run a campaign for a group.

I enjoy high fantasy, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi... basically anything that isn't high school or college slice of life kind of things. I got enough of that in real life.

Crystalkitsune85 11-13-2017 10:44 PM

Bubbles we should do an RP here so 1 I keep active and 2 we both earn currency for posting *Flails cutely*

Mekatra 11-13-2017 11:10 PM

Probably shouldn't continue the one we're doing though. Orus isn't really public friendly. Hmmm to the random plot generator? lol

Worm 11-13-2017 11:59 PM

Hells yeah.
Lemme ask around and see if we could get a group started. And sci-fi and post apocalyptic are my faves. I love high fantasy as well though. So this should be fun!

Crystalkitsune85 11-14-2017 12:05 AM

as long as it's not "Adopting a dog" again XD

Mekatra 11-14-2017 12:06 AM

The Fate system would probably work better than D&D or Pathfinder to be honest, since it is more adaptable than those. Plus, it is all available online for free.

Worm 11-14-2017 12:16 AM

That sounds great! (:

sylvanSpider 11-14-2017 12:29 AM

A D&D-esque rp? Man, sign me up if you're still taking offers for a group! I've never used the Fate System, but if it's d20, I've got a pretty decent grasp on it. :3

Mekatra 11-14-2017 12:34 AM

Sis, how about "adopting a cat?" -ducks and hides-

Fate Core <- This is where character creation starts. If we get a couple people interested we can decide what sort of setting everyone would like, and I can build a world from there.

Fate isn't a D20 system, but if people would rather do an old fashioned kick in the door style dungeon crawl I will GLADLY run a Dungeon World game.

Crystalkitsune85 11-14-2017 12:55 AM

If it's a Cat boy, I'm all for it :3

Mekatra 11-14-2017 01:11 AM

Sis, I will PM you so we can hammer the rest of the details out and then start an actual thread.

Crystalkitsune85 11-14-2017 01:21 AM

Alrighty roo Bubbles.

Mekatra 11-14-2017 07:08 PM

So for those that had mentioned being interested in a tablestop style roleplay, which sounds more fun:

A. Post-Apocalyptic world where people are struggling to rebuild humanity.

B. A good old fashioned high fantasy medieval styled adventure.

C. High Tech futuristic tale spanning across multiple planets.

D. Don't care I'm in regardless.

We can use the Fate system for some of these and the Dungeon World one for the traditional D&D/LOTR styled game.

I am thinking I could do updates to the game once or twice a week, sooner if all the players can post before then. Basically I set up the world around you, you guys do like a regular roleplay and post up your actions (and dice rolls if needed,) conversing amongst each other if you please. Then I update what is happening to everyone and it starts all over again. It makes for a little slower gameplay than a regular tabletop, but I've done it loads of time and it is really fun.

Crystalkitsune85 11-14-2017 07:16 PM

*Flails cutely* Bubbles lets get on dat RP of ours! *pulls you into a private room*

Mekatra 11-15-2017 02:10 AM

So demanding. T_T Crack the whip on me why don't you?

Crystalkitsune85 11-15-2017 02:32 AM

Of course! Big sis has to keep you in line SOME how.

Worm 11-15-2017 07:27 PM

I vote for either A or C. :x

And that sounds great!
I like Fate's character creation system. :0

(PS, you two are adorable. And cat-boys make fun pets. x'D )

Mekatra 11-15-2017 07:31 PM

Shhh, Worm, don't encourage her!

Also every time I see your username I think of that song Doctor Worm by They Might Be Giants and I chuckle.

Fate is an interesting system. I haven't used it as much as D&D 3.5 or World of Darkness, but I wanted to use something that had all the materials online for free.

Crystalkitsune85 11-15-2017 08:07 PM

*Does a cute kitty face* Thankies Worm! Yeah, we're pretty fun when we get together. I sit on him, he does what I want, all the fun to be had!

Worm 11-15-2017 08:30 PM

Ahaha, now all I need is a PhD >:)

And Kitsune, that is the best fun to be had xD

If there is a system that you are more familiar with, I have no preferences.
D&D 3.5, there are no references we can use for it online? ;n;

Mekatra 11-15-2017 08:38 PM

Oh I'm comfortable using Fate or Dungeon World, I was just saying I had used 3.5 MORE. It's a little needlessly complicated for a play by post game anyway, to be honest.

I think I am leaning toward a post-apocalyptic world which Fate lends itself well to anyway. .

Worm 11-15-2017 08:48 PM

Oh, oh, I see. :3

That sounds good to me~!
Let me poke Spider and see what they think. <3

sylvanSpider 11-15-2017 09:09 PM

*is thoroughly poked into noticing* So, it seems we are going with post-Apocalyptic, which I am just fine with! So we are doing that method through the Fate thing then? I've never used it before, but I am well-acquainted with 3.5, though it's been a minute because the group I most recently went with made the switch to Pathfinder, but they're close enough I could get that done regardless. I have my own dice but if it's more trustworthy to do it online or something I'm game for that as well.

Mekatra, would you be a dm of sorts then I assume?

Mekatra 11-15-2017 09:28 PM

Fate uses fudge dice, and I certainly don't mind if you want to use yours if you have them or an online set. I trust you guys to be honest about your rolls. It really makes it more fun if you fail every once in a while.

Yes, I would be providing the world around you guys, challenges and NPCs. Which of course means I will be chasing your characters around as you gleefully ignore any actual story hooks I throw out and instead go twiddling off into unexpected areas.

sylvanSpider 11-15-2017 09:32 PM

Oh yes, the dm's struggles are real! I'll be sure to make it exceedingly difficult for you! So is it just a website or what? Do we make characters on there? I've never done it over this medium before so it's an entirely new experience for me!

Worm 11-15-2017 09:32 PM

Weee~ That sounds like so much fun x'D

Mekatra 11-15-2017 10:11 PM

__________________________
Alright, so you'll need to come up with a bit of a character background. We'll work through your characters crossing paths also.

For your information about the world for your character building:
An accidental meltdown of a nuclear reactor during a visit by a foreign dignitary caused an international scandal, which eventually lead to a war. Things spread as more nations got involved and eventually much of the world was left a wasteland. What is left of humanity has gathered in camp-like cities where things are starting to finally begin again. The first generation of survivors have managed to create shakey stability, but the second generation now in the late teens and early adult years have started showing odd traits. Some of them have mysterious abilities have been met with hatred and those found having these powers are occasionally faced with branding, imprisonment or banishment. In the wild wastes between the cities thousands of dangers, but also all the treasures of the old world, remain buried just waiting to be discovered.

The major Camp Cities:

Advent Harbor- Near the ocean, now a terrifyingly dangerous place of monstrous creatures and ghostly remains of old ships.

Sevinia - Religious based, known for having very harsh rules and being stingy traders.

Camp Hope- The first of the city camps to be established. It was built off of a military bunker and has the biggest population. More diverse than most.

Grand Gardens- A fairly new location. The inhabitants tend to be quick to violence.

There are many others that haven't been mapped, pockets of humanity hidden away.

Where are you from? Are you a first generation survivor or were you born into this world? How have you survived so far? What abilities are you known for? Are you blazing to go out and explore this world or would you rather stay in the relative safety of your camp?

Mekatra 11-15-2017 10:12 PM

So I feel I should mention that I have a policy with my DMing. If you claim it, you must explain it. I am willing to let you get away with quite a lot of craziness IF you have a convincing and logical reason behind it.

sylvanSpider 11-15-2017 10:24 PM

I enjoy that policy in dming, so it's perfectly okay with me! Ideally, I'll be creating my character tonight. If not, tomorrow after this shitshow of homework that is due is completed. Using the aforementioned sites, do we just post our character's info here then?

Mekatra 11-15-2017 10:28 PM

I suppose I should make us a proper OOC for everyone to post their character sheet in and such. No huge rush, this is meant to be fun, not stressful.

You should be able to find all the information that you need on the Fate site, but if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message either here or a PM at any time.

Crystalkitsune85 11-16-2017 02:35 PM

Such Wall O text Bro. I saw a lot and just skimmed. I'm glad I'm not jumping in. While I think there is an interest in creating a character and then using dice to determine success or failure, starting up for either the player or the DM is sooo extensive. Even more so for the DM since he/she has to create a whole world whence the players play in. @_@. I hope you guys have the funs though :)

sylvanSpider 11-16-2017 08:45 PM

Hmmm, well, if we didn't want to do the dice rolling or anything, we don't have to. Mayhap take a vote? I'd be down either way.

Mekatra 11-16-2017 10:07 PM

I think it us the extensive character set-up she is against, not the dice. It does require a bit of set-up, but it is the concept that matters most. The rest is easy. Plus, Fate is the second easiest character creation in exsistance.

Crystalkitsune85 11-16-2017 10:12 PM

I am TOTALLY lazy, Meki can vouch for that. Sure I create characters but I don't do all that like attribute stuff. I am more for 1X1 RP anyway. Groups tend to get out of hand if I leave it for a period of time. @_@

sylvanSpider 11-16-2017 11:08 PM

^Same for me, honestly. But I am down to try. It's just my first time doing anything like this online is all.

Okay. So what if we compromised? What if we didn't make extensive ass long character sheets but with different actions we'd roll to see if we hit and then roll to see what the damage is? Laziness can still prevail, but we'll still have the dice aspect. I think as long as we all don't get out of hand and make our characters super op and specify what they are able to do before hand and don't go over and above that it could work?

Maybe?

idfk, I'm just spitting ideas here. xD

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 01:41 AM

Oh it's ok I was fine with letting Meki have his fun with you guys. We actually got a 1x1 going so I'm happy I can do that at least ^^. You guys do it like Meki wants.

Worm 11-19-2017 10:04 PM

I just posted the beginnings of my character in the OOC, lemme know if he looks cool.
Is telekinesis/levitation okay for a second gen power? </3

Mekatra 11-25-2017 08:52 AM

I'm so sorry for disappearing for a while. My laptop decided it was done with life (Mother board fried and took hard drive with it) and it took me a bit to replace it. >.< I have returned with a new laptop and will be active daily again.
