Trisphee Fancomic?

Anywho, I am opening this thread to see if and how Trisphee would want to go about making a webcomic based on the universe Trisphee is in.

Things (that I recall) that are brought up as issues with this:

1) The "professionals" of Trisphee (the staff) are somewhat strained in their work as it is, and are trying to implement first several fixes/improvements to their old system, followed by "other ideas"

2) A user-voluntary input/created webcomic has a high chance of being haphazard.

3) Whatever art could be obtained for the webcomic may not match, due to different styles from volunteers

4) Most importantly, what is desired from this webcomic.


This idea was made by Taletha, and I am trying to help it in someway become something to improve Trisphee, people's interest in Trisphee, and just have fun with a nutty webcomic :p-grin:

This post is to discuss and plan the webcomic.

And if I mad no sense, sorry - I can be bad with communicating thoughts, and I am still somewhat sickly.

Why are we calling it a fancomic? lol

Well, I thought that would emphasize the focus on Trisphee users, and if there was not enough interest/time between everyone, it could still be worked on at a slower pace.

It's also best to call it a Fancomic since it isn't made by the Staff. It's made by the user base, the fans of the website and is not an official comic for the site. Kind of like how a Fan Fiction is called Fan Fiction. It's made by the fans and not the owners. So that takes out the first part of the concerns in the first post.

As for that user created comic being a haphazard, as long as you put disclaimers and don't make any money off the comic, legal wise you'll be fine. Because it'll be a fancomic. Make sure people know that the original settings, and list the NPCs that belong to Trisphee. If possible add a link to the site so they can see where the idea for the comic came from.

Another Hazards that can arise are: the group arguing and falling apart, or putting a user into the comic as a character with out asking that person permission, and adding a person to bash them due to personal grudges and feelings against that person.

If/When a fight erupts, have everyone step back away from the comic, take a breather, and then come back to talk over what the fight was about. Have a neutral person to negotiate and keep things calm if needed.

As for the artist thing in concern number 3. If it is a group project, try to ask the artists to draw a rough draft, then vote of which drawing style to use. Then have everyone practice that drawing style. It really isn't all that hard to mimic a drawing style if you've practiced it.

Or, you can just get 1 artist, and have slower releases, but then you'll be screwed if that artist decides to give up and not work on it any more which happens fairly often.


and for #4. What is desired from the comic? No clue. Do you guys, The creators of the comic, want? Action Adventure? Romance? Comedy? A bit of all 3 or maybe even other things added in?
Every one has their reading preferences. I like Action Adventures mostly, with a bit of comedy mixed in. But others might prefer Romance and Comedy or just flat out comedy.

When/if you get your group together to make the comic, ask about what type of comic it should be. It's a Fancomic, that is a group project. There for the final decision is the groups decision.

I think a Fancomic is a good idea, and if made, it could draw people to the site. I once made a Gundam Wing/Trisphee Fanfiction (that i never updated because life got in the way) and it had brought in a few people. Quite Man Cometh is one of them! So a fancomic would be a good way to advertise the site. As long as personal feelings against people stay out of it so drama over it won't follow the comic, it'll be the best thing ever.

Sorry for my late reply, I was sort of swamped.

I have to point it out though: If the staff can't, or won't be involved, then there's not much point in doing this. It's not for us, it's for the site, and it's not for us to express fandom for the site, but rather it's so the site can expand.

Unless this is a wholly different thing than what I was talking about for the last week...

I saw your post in the other thread. You said something about people needing to take an initiative. Since the staff doesnt have the time nor man power to make an official comic, the users (like you) should make a fan comic and post it on a webcomic site with disclaimers and links to trisphee.

Using ones Fandom can always be a way to help a site if it's used right. =)


a Fan Comic can help the site because it's advertising it. By advertising it, you'd be able to bring people to the site. People to the site sometimes means more donations to pay for more coders and artists.

One of the people my fanfiction had brought to the site ended up being a Writer for some time before life got into the way.

Ask staff for permission to make an official Trisphee comic and have it hosted here (but then that takes away the advertisement part of hosting it on a site where fan comics would go).

They won't have to be too involved if its a User Based Project that was granted permission to be made. Just draw up each chapter in rough draft form, and show it to them, once the each rough draft has been accepted finish it up and have it posted.

Again, that won't do any good.

At best, we can ask the staff to host it here and make it official. But in that regard, anyone involved too would then become Trisphee staff (unless they already are). Dunno how that will sit with some folks, or if they can even afford new site staff (I'm not gonna lie, if I'm gonna be epically involved with writing and planning this thing out, I'm going to be asking for compensation at some point.).

I had no illusions what hurdles this thing had, but at the same time, again, initiative. This place obviously needs it. Heck, I just joined and I'm already getting bored (just...not a lot to do I'm sorry). >_>

I need to get signed up for school. I also got RPs going on and an addiction for minecraft, wizard 101, and Final Fantasy 9 right now that I'm rotating. Buut somewhere int here I'll squeeze in reading the condensed summaries of Trisphee's history.

I'm excitedly brainstorming RP ideas. Reading the history I"m sure I can come up with plenty ideas to store away in the dark attic to be discovered...but really I just enjoy the brainstorming process. Also addicting. Did you know I never finish my construction projects on Minecraft? I should get my title changed to Professor Calamitous (sp?)

Also Nex I notice you feel like we aren't hearing you. And I don't want you to think that. I've heard. You haven't been shutting us down ever. Just being a counter-balance to enthusiams. -nods-

Also what is BI? You use it in your sentences and it confuzzles me.

Nexess, I'm not sure I can name too many decent artists who'd work on a fan comic for an avatar site that has (no offense...) only about two dozen active users...

That's a really tall order, no matter the circumstance...

Several of us have enthusiams but lack skills or time to do it. I'm the former obviously. Maybe if I had patience enough to improve my drawing ability. But since I do not well webcomic for now remains a happy dream and the bulk of Trisphee focuses on other things the community and staff can commit energy to.

Related to the comic though did you have any ideas? =)
Even if it may not happen I do like to imagine a comic strip. But if it feels more saddening for you than anything I understan.d

*Personal point* Start with a crappy skilled webcomic with a decent storyline, then improve from there?

You are, of course, welcome to make your own fan comic, but like nexxy says, Trisphee doesn't have the resources to support the effort, so it would strictly be an unofficial thing.


If you can find the dedication (and time) to make your own comic, be it based on Trisphee users, or something else entirely, I'm certain you will see improvement in your abilities... Just look at early comics of Penny Arcade or Dresden Codak compared with now.

If I had the time, skills and dedication to make a webcomic, I would be my own thing and not a Trisphee fancomic - again, no offense. :P

This was an idea to bolster the site itself. But just so you know, no matter the circumstances, if ideas like this one (I remember someone once mentioned they wanted make a flash...or java game? =_=) keep getting shot down, the site....well, it's gonna far from thrive.

I think you misunderstand my intent.

I like webcomics. I even like the idea of a Trisphee one. But now is not the time for me to be pursuing starting that. I am simply letting you know that there is no problem if people want to make something on their own.

(And really, if someone is going to make a webcomic, it should be their own thing.)


As for games... I'm not sure what you're referring to on shooting that stuff down... Games are planned to be a thing in Trisphee. (But it's not as if we could possibly pursue every idea that people have.)

Okay, serious question: If you wanted a new game on here, what would it be?

For the moment, it would be little things. We've had a few games written using JavaScript for events in the past (I wrote one). So, probably more things along that line.

Specifically? I'm not sure.

It can work if the writing and/or panel setup makes the content engaging. Personally I'm not too great at being succinct. Elaborate character backgrounds and interpersonal histories are easier for me than a punchline.

I have many stories brewing. Question is which one would work with Trisphee, or should I brew up a different one altogether? What would people want in such a comic?
If there is support for the comic, I was willing to go through the entire storyline to figure it out (Nexess giving a nice background...or the old summary link as I lost it. would be nice :3)

Here is the link I think you are talking about I"m reading like one thing at a time while I play games. So it'll be awhile before I learn enough.

Anywho if we are to start then we are an unofficial comic. And if I, of all people, am the artist doing this for fun the strip will have to be simple enough. Perhaps a mix of plot and funny strips? The story could focus on some Trisphites living in the world going through some wacky experiences.

Any other details depends on the continuity chosen and of course setting. I'm reading the races page right now.

The examples were chosen for their different styles and do-ability on a regular basis. The last one sucks bad but that chibi style is an option. Perhaps I could give traditional drawings a shot again. Might be easier to draw than a tablet.

Hi there! This will be a bit long, so I'll bold the relevant sections for people who don't want to read all of it. ;). Following DK's comments, yes, I did find may way here via a piece of GWing/Trisphee fanfiction. Let me tell you about that. :)

I did bump into DK's fanfiction "Onward to Trisphee" at ff.net and my first reaction was "what the hell is Trisphee?" I looked like a standard characters-in-hi-school fic, which are common enough. It showed the anime characters encountering this avatar site called Trisphee. If all it was was a high school character fic, I might have stopped there, but why I think it worked was because I learned through the fic what Trisphee was, what an avatar site was (I had never even heard of them before then), and what sort of stuff happened there (the fic took place around the Taskal War event). I had been on forums before and since the forum I usually on was changing for the worse, I followed the little link DK posted and ended up here. (I know at least two other people followed as well but I think I'm the only one that stuck around).

On the technical,business end of things, I think it's been established that Tris does not have the resources to devote to an official webcomic for the site right now, but to elaborate a little bit, I think staff right now are taking the safe route as far as site development. There is always something to be said for advertising, like DK's fanfiction piece, and I think a web/fancomic would be great for that. But, to have a regular comic going on tris would need more resources, which means we need a larger user base than we currently have. Staff could put resources towards the webcomic and hope that it draws the user base in to pay for itself, but it's a risk. If it doesn't work, it becomes a waste of resources the site may not have. On the other hand, a user fancomic gets advertising, without draining the site of needed resources.

Okay, that said, I like the idea of a fancomic. :)

Apart from the advertising bit, which is a good bonus, I think it would be fun and entertaining to read. Not sure how easy they are to find now, but in the past a few people did little strip comics and pictures depicting NPC's in events from the trisphee story as well as just hypothetical scenarios. They were cute, and helped endear people to the characters.

On the story: it's fine I think to go along with the tris story, if that's the plan, but I also think it would be fun to make little short strip comics that just show an event or two, or maybe something that has even yet to happen or happened "off screen" so to speak. Since it's a fancomic, there is a lot more freedom to work with the characters, though I would like to see them acting in the way they normally would. Little short vignettes would allow for a break from a longer story for bother the writers and the readers, and provide more ways for potential users to get to know the characters. It also allowed for multiple writers to do their own thing now and then, especially if working together on the one big project starts to get on everyone's nerves (and it likely will at some point).

On the art: it would definitely be a lot of work for one or even two artists, and like DK said, if needed, people can decide and share a style, but I personally think that multiple artists or different styles isn't a bad thing. Consider something like Animatrix or the Batman movie-thing that showed multiple Batman stories but all done in different animation styles. I found them very interesting to watch. The stories were related as in from the same setting, but since each were contained into themselves, it wasn't a shock to see the different art styles. I think the same could be done for a fancomic. Strip comics would allow for a free mix of styles, and even in the larger story, as long as there's a chapter break in between, I think switching styles/artists now and then wouldn't be a bad thing, especially if it's mentioned before hand that that's what you guy will be doing.

I can't devote much time to a project like this, but if you do go the strip and full story route, it wouldn't surprise me if other people decide to little things now and then. I'll read it if nothing else. :)
