こんにちはみんな!!
大学で日本語を勉強しましたが、よく忘れました。話しませんだから。
よろしくおねがいします。

Hello Everyone,
I studied Japanese in college but I forgot a lot because I didn't speak it often.

Demonskid 03-18-2011 07:25 PM

you live with ashurato >< you should be speaking it constantly!

MizuMahou 03-18-2011 07:28 PM

I know, I know....

Every time I try to have her make me improve my japanese, I just stare blankly at her when she speaks to me because I've forgotten so much vocab.

Demonskid 03-18-2011 07:31 PM

Hehe.. well here you can bounce it off of me and help me learns :3

MizuMahou 03-18-2011 07:37 PM

Sure thing,

I saw your list of helpful sites and I have a few that I've used over the years.
kantango.com is another flashcard site that I liked to used.
I've also used rikai.com to help me translate text from japanese to english. This one is nice because you can mouse over kanji and it will identify the common readings and meanings of the kanji.

Demonskid 03-18-2011 07:41 PM

Ooo nice =o

*adds them to front*

MizuMahou 03-18-2011 07:45 PM

Glad I could help.

I've also used google's translation services but they only really provide translations. Most of the time I find them minimally helpful.

Demonskid 03-18-2011 07:48 PM

I don't like google translation that much ._.

And here I though it was just because you were struck speechless by how much you love me.

もう信じられない!

Sushi 03-19-2011 09:41 AM

あしゅらとさんは日本人ですか?

Ashurato are you japanese?
Technical: Is Ashurato Japanese?

*Note: What I have been told many times over is that when in Japan, they don't use 君(きみ・Kimi) or あなた very often. Instead they replace the name where 君(きみ・Kimi) or あなた are. I have not been told whether you have to use は after the subject in the case where you are ask them - aka omitting the 君(きみ・Kimi) or あなた - or whether you have to use it. I know in informal speech you can omit a lot of particles but let's stick with formal since it is best to learn that first - in my opinion.

@MizuMahou:
「話しませんだから。」の代わりに『話しませんでしたから。』を言えばいいだと思います。(I think I wrote that right... we just touched base on the "ba" form of verbs before this quarter ended.)

I think you should say 話しませんでしたから instead of 話しませんだから (More like I think it is good to say 話しませんでしたから instead of 話しませんだから)

Blaine 03-20-2011 01:21 PM

Shinka's right on that one. あなた is more so used for married couples in the term of, "Honey, honey!" rather than you. So, don;'t use it unless you're ready~ ;>

Hallo Shinka! You may not know me, but I'm friends with Divi xD;

Ashurato 03-20-2011 01:24 PM

@ shinka - 日本人ですよ〜

shinkamalei 03-20-2011 04:47 PM

@Blaine: Well hi!Nice to meet ya!

@あしゅらと:そうですか?日本に住んでいますか?もしそうなら、何町に住んでいますか? That is if you don't mind my asking. I won't be offended if you choose not to answer.

Azrael 03-22-2011 10:59 PM

Hrm, so I've discovered that, in my kanji class, it's actually nice to learn all the chinese AND japanese reading of a particular kanji. While it's good to learn the vocab with a kanji admittedly, it's not a bad idea to learn all the readings of the kanji you know. So if you run across it in an unfamiliar word, you may be able to guess how to pronounce it.

shinkamalei 03-22-2011 11:30 PM

Yeah that's what my japanese teacher tells me too. But she has only taught so many onyomi and kunyomi. I don't have a kanji book to get the readings from otherwise I would! I agree that it is the smartest way to do it.

Azrael 03-23-2011 12:40 AM

Yeah, a lot of people studied the vocab she gave us, and it's a good idea to look it over, but it's smarter to just memorize the readings instead, I found. I did a lot better on my test than I thought I would because I did it that way. I only missed anything because A) I didn't understand the sentence and B) I couldn't remember the readings. XD

I had a kanji book, so I was able to get all the readings, and she gave them all to us as well. Unfortunately, with our tests, in our Kanji class it's retarded cause we get sentences with vocab and structures we've never encountered before and half of them also seem to be in casual speech so it's really hard to use context clues. @_@'

Sushi 03-23-2011 05:58 PM

Bloop. Man, look at you guys going on in Japanese. :3
I got some motivation to start studying again.
Back to kanji practice! lol

How are you guys doing?

Demonskid 03-24-2011 01:18 PM

Guys.. remember to add your translations somewhere in your post... Please?

Don't just give out sites that translates the stuff.. ._.

This isn't just the rule for this thread.. its everywhere in the site and forum rules ._.

Azrael 03-24-2011 11:31 PM

There's this guy in my Japanese class who lived in Japan for two years for a mission, and he insists on talking to me in Japanese, and I just stare at him blankly. It's like, I appreciate the attempt but your accent sucks, you're talking casually, you talk too fast, and I don't care to look like a retard right now trying to stammer together a sentence reply for you. x.x'

Echo-chan713 03-24-2011 11:46 PM

Especially when they have an accent that destroys the language (such as talking Spanish in a French accent)

Azrael 03-25-2011 12:03 AM

I don't know wtf accent he's trying to use but it's bad. And he's hard to understand.

Echo-chan713 03-25-2011 12:16 AM

British accent?

Azrael 03-25-2011 03:01 AM

no, it's just a fake japanese accent.

shinkamalei 03-26-2011 02:44 PM

It's a fake japanese accent? That is kinna disrespectful yeah? And have you told him you don't wish to speak at the moment? cause he should totally oblige you. ^^

I see. I just bought a new kanji book. I need to brush up before the end of this year's JLPT. I wanna ROCK it. Anyways, it sounds like you have a pretty good plan. I might tyr it out. Along with anki.

Ohhhhh. Yeah see my teacher will only give us sentences and the structures that she has already taught. Along with kanji she has taught with both readings. I think it's stupid to try ti the other way. It's not as effective since you won't know the sentences.
