of course :)
Oooh, if I really focus, I should be able to finish a book tomorrow!
oh yaaay! I finished another Murdoch Mystery the other day! woot!
I read the only children's book I own yesterday. Noisy Nora. Or as my family called it "Noisy Heather". It's a great book for anyone who is a middle child tbh. XD
i'm the oldest between me and my brothers. i don't have a middle daughter, there's only two of 'em :)
The basic summary of the book is that kom and dad are too busy taking care of the older and younger sibling to pay attention to the middle kid so the middle kid makes messes and is noisy in an attempt to also be given attention, but just gets shushed. So then the m.k. hides in a closet and pretends to run away and the parents panic a bit until the m.k. crashes out of their hiding place.
But it basically sums up perfectly the feeling of being ignored and being made to feel unimportant because the parents are busy fawning over the first-born and the baby. |
aww, yeah. i could see that being a thing in some families.
If I had been a boy instead, it would have been better because at least I would have been the first boy and had something special instead of being the second girl.
*shrug* |
huh. interesting.
One if my favorite moments growing up is when my sister fell into the wrong group her freshman year of highschool and started smoking, shoplifting, etc and when caught, my parents sent her to therapy. And also sent me because even though they "knew we're completely different" they thought I'd make the same mistake.
well that doesn't sound like fun at all. :(
Yeah....I was not thrilled. I think I only went to maybe 2-3 sessions, then just quit showing up because it was stupid and a waste of everyone's time.
XD |
yeah, that sounds about right.
so i'm currently reading A Map of Days, which is book 4 in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. book 5 comes out next year, i think |
Quote:
I just finished the first episode but now I'm hungry so I'm going to eat something and watch episode 2. x} There are 10 episodes available, and they're all like under and hour long, except episode 1. I gotta say, it's kinda inspiring to watch. 83 *squishes cheeks* Makes me wanna get back to writing n' stuff.. I'm so hungry. x} Edit: Oh! This is The Dark Crystal I'm talking about by the way! <x'D Forgot to mention! |
it's fine, as soon as i read Age of Resistance, i had a feeling that's what you were talking about. now that i've seen the original movie, i can watch the series. it's gonna remind me of Rogue One though - there's only one way it can end.
oUo; Yehhh it's gonna be catastrophic. x}
But I still love the little animals and the podlings… and the fizgigs! x'D <3 And the skeksis are horrible but hilarious. x} Mark Hamil voices the Scientist you know! :D |
i didn't know that about Mark Hamil... now i HAVE to watch!
XD haha! If you recognize him as the Joker it's so easy to pick out who he is. <x'D
i've heard his Joker voice in snippets here and there, that's all.
in other news, the book i'm reading, the Eyes of Tamburah, might help me with my NaNo for this year. reminds me, i need to go poke that thread, too... |
o_o is that like the whole, "write-every-day-for-a-month-but-it's-November-in-particular" thread?
LOL, yep, that would be NaNo. XD
Oh wow, hahaha! <x'} I'm gonna have to start getting used to writing more again if I wanna participate.
i've done it since 2011. it's pretty much the only time during the year i write! XD
My first NaNo was my best run. Not much luck after that. I try each year though. Maybe I'll see if I can head a meet-up or something, since most aren't handy to me. Gotta do something with my library tech diploma!
Also I've been seeing renewed interest in The Dark Crystal. Is it being remade or something? |
unlike what Yoda says, there's nothing wrong with trying.
and yeah, there's a prequel - The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance - out now on Netflix. it's like 10 episodes |
<xD I have a more emotional response for these puppets than I do for the animated movies nowadays. Aaah!
Updated my reading post which I kind of forgot about. I've been reading a lot of short stories so hard to post those, especially when they are in collections I don't finish.
i've updated my reading as well... i'm currently reading #31... and i hope to read 38 this year. however, don't want to speak to soon.... XD
It's not a part of my reading list, but I've had to read the synopses for both Hamlet and Oedipus Rex.
<x} They are so tragically dramatic omg! I sort of want to remake the summaries in the most hilarious way possible! |
you had to read the synopses of them... not read the actual plays? i read them both in high school. i've also seen a few movie productions of Hamlet as well.
and yes, they are quite tragic. |
>u>; yehhh not the actual plays. But the class I take doesn't really have the time to read both plays. We just have to analyze the basics of the story.
ah, gotcha. what class is that?
Text Analysis. /x} Like a literature class but slower and more analytical.
oh interesting. it seems like you'd need to read the text in order to analyze it though
<u<; Professor prefers us to already have read the stories and know them yes..but I only ever read a select few plays in high school. :/ Never even read through Romeo and Juliet because it was just so common. Yeah, we read stuff like Pride & Prejudice too, but also A Thousand Splendid Suns, Things Fall Apart and The Importance of Being Earnest. x} Which I guess is also required reading for some?? But not that I've heard from others. :/
ah, i gotcha.
i read Romeo & Juliet; heard of (but not read) Pride & Prejudice, Things Fall Apart, and The Importance of Being Earnest. never heard of A Thousand Splendid Suns, however. |
<x} YEhP! ahhhh, I read some pretty sweet stuff in high school Lit. And completely missed out on a lot of stuff almost everyone is familiar with. <X} Hehe.
I don't know if I'll add them to my reading list but I might, after reading the synopses, I'm suddenly intrigued. x] Btw I haven't touched/not too familiar with: Uncle Tom's Cabin Dracula Tom Sawyer Huckleberry Finn Lord of the Flies The Old Man and the Sea Wuthering Heights Romeo & Juliet Hamlet The Great Gatsby Where the Red Fern Grows Little Women 1984 A Tale of Two Cities The Scarlet Letter The Count of Monte Christo The Odyssey Fahrenheit 451 Julius Caesar Great Expectations The Grapes of Wrath Brave New World Othello The Taming of the Shrew Moby Dick King Lear One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Oliver Twist A Doll's House Gulliver's Travels Catch 22 The Tempest ...I think that's about it. :/ I've got to read Medea by Euripides for one of my classes, so I hope it's juicy and ridiculously dramatic. x} |
wow! i've heard of all of those, except Medea. and out of the huge list i've read 16 of them, and absolutely hated one of 'em. (Grapes of Wrath)
I've read Hamlet several times, it's not a bad play though it's long. I would recommend reading it if you have the time. I took a course on Shakespeare in Uni, and then read Hamlet for another course.
Oh! A list! Me too! Uncle Tom's Cabin - heard of it but haven't read. Dracula - own it but haven't read. Tom Sawyer - Wishbone did it. Huckleberry Finn - Or he did this one. Not sure. Lord of the Flies - Read in school. I don't like it. The Old Man and the Sea - Did not read it in school. Know of it. Wuthering Heights - Know of it. Supposed to be slightly Gothic. Romeo & Juliet - Read for uni. Not my favourite. Hamlet - Read several times. Seen one the Kenneth Brannagh movie. The Great Gatsby - know of, never read. Where the Red Fern Grows - Read this recently. Wonderful book, oh dear god the feels. Little Women - Saw a cartoon when I was itty bitty and only remember a little bit of it. There's a character named Beth. 1984 - Know of, never read. A Tale of Two Cities - Wishbone did this too. The Scarlet Letter - Know of, not read. The Count of Monte Christo - Wishbone, and saw a movie. The Odyssey - Wishbone, abbreviated book, part of a miniseries. Fahrenheit 451 - hear of, not read. Julius Caesar - same Great Expectations - same but movie. The Grapes of Wrath - same Brave New World - skimmed in uni. Wasn't impressed. Othello - didn't actually read this one. The Taming of the Shrew - or this one. Moby Dick - just a couple movies. King Lear - nope, not read. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - haven't read this either. Oliver Twist - Wishbone and Disney A Doll's House - Hey! I haven't heard of this one! Gulliver's Travels - Cartoon when I was about 6. Catch 22 - Heard of, memorized the cover, haven't read. The Tempest - Read in high school. Not bad. I heard of all but one! Some only because of a TV Jack Russel. Seriously though, my degree is in English Lit so I'm happy to natter about literary things. What are you supposed to get from your textual analysis? The Importance of Being Ernest is pretty short, and pretty funny. Seems like it would lend itself well to text analysis. |
yaay Wishbone! i used to watch him with one of my daughters. :)
