Ginger 05-17-2012 06:45 PM

Thanks so much for the luck, Sai! 8D I'll definitely post pictures but it won't be for a while from now. I know the hard work will pay off when I'm finally on the road and can take a month or two off with little worry as to how I'm gonna fill the gas tank. I would be selling art on my journey so that my savings account isn't completely depleted before I get home. I'm planning to learn more crafting before the time comes :3 Like jewelry, cute yarn hats/armwarmers, woodburning plaques, and maybe a few other things.

I wish I had your ethusisam. God I can't spell ~_~
Yes the hard work will definately pay off when you can
enjoy it~ I just hope the gas prices are reasonable when
you get that far. Would hate for you to have to worry about
that. And selling art is a awesome idea on how to live for
awhile. God that sounds like a ton of fun right now.

Of course I would end up forgetting what number of
drinks I've had already haha. But at least I would
be drinking something.

or you could always stick sticky notes on top of your computer~

Ginger 05-17-2012 07:39 PM

It sure is nice getting positive feedback about this! I keep getting negative comments about it. Living in a van isn't really acceptable to the masses, but in my opinion as long as it's a converted van with a shower/toilet, cooking/sitting area, and sleeping area(s), there isn't a reason it should be unacceptable. As long as the people in the vehicle are happy and comfortable with their lives it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks.

Yeah I'm hoping the gas prices don't skyrocket when I'm finally able to venture off into the unknown. I'd like to find a 12 passenger van that gets at least 20 m.pg. because anything under that could get quite costly in the long run. I'll probably join a forum site that deal with this sort of thing so I can learn from them and their experiences before I actually start the project.

± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

☁☂ That is a great idea Ginger. Sorry to hear that many don't accept it.
I think if a person is happy with their life and
where they are living that is all that matters and
there are a ton of people who love doing things like
that. And if it has all the ammenities a home has then
who the heck cares! Good luck finding the van you want.
I'm sure there is one out there.

That is a good idea Keiko. I should probably do something
like that. Would be better having papers all over the
place with a list of things to do on them lol. At least
it would be smaller and take up less space hehe.

± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Ginger 05-17-2012 08:14 PM

For sure :)

I can't wait to meet these other faces on the road. I mean people with similar ideas and goals in life, though I don't think I have any major goals as of yet. I'm still young and I believe I should enjoy my youth before I'm stuck in an office somewhere, working all the time as I slowly deteriorate. Who knows where I'll end up on the trip. I might even score a job at an awesome bird sanctuary across the country and start my life in that area.

± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

☁☂ That would be awesome if you could get a job like that.
I hope things all work out awesome for you when you
do that. You have a great view on things though. I
agree you should totally enjoy your youth while you
have it. Everyone should~

Ginger 05-18-2012 05:57 PM

Unfortunately though, society pounds college and retirement into our heads and we're not able to live freely until we retire, and even then a lot of retired people don't have enough in their retirement to have fun and their families put them in assisted living. I wouldn't mind living day-to-day with the person I love off of the money we earn from selling our art and skills until we have stable jobs with pay that is a little more than minimum wage. Of course it would mostly be a seasonal thing unless we were to stay in the south for winter. I've talked to him about it and he's not interested at all. I had a feeling he would react that way. He isn't really the adventurous type and that worries me, because I'm going to try my hardest to be able to do this and when the time comes, he isn't going to be happy about it because he will feel like he's strapped down to where he is. He uses his family as an excuse not to move out of the area, but his family will always be here to return to.

☁☂Awww I'm sorry to hear that Ginger. I hope things are ok for
you two when you get the chance to do this.
I know how you must be feeling. I have the same
thing but I am willing to move to another area
to get away from family. He shouldn't be using
them as a excuse not to be adventurous. ; ;

Yeah, well, online I think you're going to find a different set of minds, at least on a site like this. Personally... I feel trapped by my own self. I have a job, it's all right, but I don't drive. Right now all I can think about... I want to start a savings account, or something, since I don't have any real bills I want to be able to set aside a little bit of money to at least give me a slight padding so that when I do drive, and when I do have things that I want I can allow myself a minute to breathe. I hate money... I mean, if it weren't money it would be something else, but it's just so... problematic. Personally even though I live with my parents and I don't have a terrible relationship with anyone in my family, I could do wiht getting away from them and the only person I really feel tied to at all is my best friend who lives hundreds of miles away... So. That doesn't really stick my location anywhere.

Angel Spirit Girl 05-19-2012 07:12 PM

I still live with my parents since I have never had a good enough job to live on my own. Living in a van sounds interesting. There are worse ways to live.

Angel Spirit Girl 05-19-2012 07:48 PM

Yup. You could meet some very cool people that way.

femme gauche 05-20-2012 12:22 AM

Yes you would definitely meet a lot of people. Although personally I think I could do with meeting a little fewer people than I do XP.

There is a poorly lit photo of my progress with that hood I mentioned earlier. Pretty happy with it so far. Going a long more quickly than I feared but 132 is still a lot of stitches in one row if you ask me.

Saiyouri 05-20-2012 12:37 AM

± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

☁☂ That is a huge amount of stitches.
I think 20 stitches for cross stitching in a row is too
many. 132 is like insane.... The hood looks amazing though.
I can't wait to see the finished piece.~

Hehe I don't meet anyone really so who knows what I think.

± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

femme gauche 05-20-2012 12:46 AM

Yeah, although I imagine it is slightly faster to do a stitch in knitting than in cross stitching, still... But even so,132 outtakes in comparison to the 1000+ stitches pet round/row in things like finer lace shawls and the like. Well, there's a reason people don't wear a lot of handmade lace these days...

Saiyouri 05-20-2012 12:52 AM

± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

cross stitching hehe.

femme gauche 05-20-2012 01:04 AM

Yeah, at that high a number I don't know if it is made better or worse by the fact that there is a pattern to it and it isn't just the same stitch over and over and over and over...

femme gauche 05-20-2012 01:14 AM

Yeah, it does, but even though I don't have a lot of patience for big things, I do enjoy knitting. Just the feeling that you're creating something is nice, whether or not I end up using the end product very much.
