that's an interesting image there, Coda....

yeah

Coda 11-09-2017 02:06 AM

I've been having problems focusing the last couple days. I've been really tired and overwhelmed with work. I didn't realize until just now that I completely forgot to write yesterday.

500 more words up...

Coda 11-09-2017 10:38 AM

Nonlinear sequencing yay! I decided to try to get some writing done before work and bashed out something I hope conveys the emotion I was aiming for. It's only 675 words but I'm not done writing for the day.

i know this feeling quite well, actually =)

ZenKitty 11-09-2017 01:09 PM

Not done either.
Shifting to a new story because apparently my brain is refusing to write humorous scenes this year.

"Shifting to a new story" is exactly how I succeeded the first time -- I had like six different stories and I glued them together with a frame story.

trystan830 11-09-2017 02:39 PM

NaNo 2014: "Yours In Time, Jacks": five interrelated stories of time travel and wanting to make a change for the better. two more closely related than the other three. (#1 & 5)

my original plan was to assign 10,000 to each person's story. one was a little less. the other four were a bit over. XD

Coda 11-09-2017 05:07 PM

I mean, if you WANT to see my first success, I have it on my website... but I can't promise that it's any good. XD

I've also got my first failure, but despite failing at NaNo I'm actually a lot more pleased with the writing.

trystan830 11-10-2017 12:24 AM

they're both interesting. i skimmed 'em though. =)

Coda 11-11-2017 01:06 AM

Ugh. Only 375 words today. I spent almost six hours in the car today, so I really didn't have a lot of time for writing. x.x I'm going to keep hoping that I can catch up...

trystan830 11-11-2017 01:17 AM

ugh. honestly, i hate road trips in November when i have a full NaNo i'm working on.....

ZenKitty 11-11-2017 03:34 PM

I made my hubby drive and I was able to get about 3000 words written on my iPad this morning as he drove to our volunteer meeting several hours away.
One of my friends caught up to her word count riding in the car Thanksgiving weekend by writing about 10K words.
Just don't recommend that if you're driving. :P

Coda 11-11-2017 07:24 PM

I made my wife drive, but I had to do REAL work during the trip since I didn't have the day off.

ZenKitty 11-11-2017 08:21 PM

LOL. Yes. Paid work definitely comes before fun.

Coda 11-12-2017 12:10 AM

Another day of not having as much time to write as I wanted. It's hard to stay focused on writing with all the noise that comes with visiting my inlaws.

ZenKitty 11-12-2017 02:49 PM

That will be me at Thanksgiving. Down south visiting in-laws. Full house with kids and lots of flurry of activity. I'll probably wind up getting up before every one else to write and then going to a write in on Friday.

Coda 11-13-2017 10:27 AM

I like how this latest chapter turned out! I included a YouTube soundtrack link. XD

I really hope I can get more writing done now that I'm home. Getting off to a good start, at least, but I'm so far behind... At this point it's better to just recalculate my quota than to try to catch up. I need to write 2260 words per day now if I want to hit 50k before the end of the month.

this is why (when i'm not being a rebel! XD ) my own, internal 'deadline' is to try to have the word count (yep, all 50k) by Thanksgiving.

my other internal deadline is to have the story finished by 11/30. or before. XD

Mekatra 11-13-2017 01:07 PM

I started NaNo this year but then my laptop hard drive decided to die (the laptop was over a decade old...) and took the 20k I had written with it. I was a fool for not backing up my work. I have my husband's laptop now but the keyboard has a lot of issues that slow down my typing a lot so I have kind of just given up on NaNo this year.

trystan830 11-13-2017 01:15 PM

gah, sorry to hear that, Mekatra!

i use google docs every year, and back it up on a flashdrive. i'm also a little paranoid, too XD

Coda 11-13-2017 01:29 PM

I'm posting my story here on Trisphee and crossposting it to Sufficient Velocity so I have two separate offsite backups. :P

EDIT: ... wait a sec, Google Drive?

DANGIT, I never lost the prologue in the first place! I still have it on Drive! Oh well.

trystan830 11-13-2017 01:34 PM

yep, google drive. or google docs. =)

Mekatra 11-13-2017 01:44 PM

Yeah, a lot of people have told me about that since I mentioned my being an idiot and losing all my work. I'm old school enough that I didn't even think about "cloud storage" and never replaced the usb drive that my dog decided to snack on a couple months ago. I was ill prepared and payed the price. -ghostly voice- Don't be me kids, back up your works~

If I can get the money together before the end of the month to buy a new laptop I shall maybe try to mad dash something out. You never know. The idea of NaNo is to get the words on the page, right? It doesn't have to be good. That's what December and January are for lol.

Coda 11-13-2017 01:45 PM

Reading through it, I'm actually glad I did rewrite it. Wily's voice was a little better before but the content itself is way better now.

yep yep!

Coda - so that's cool too. :)

That is very doable, Coda. I've been averaging 2453 a day. Sprint ahead when you have the time and then that will help when you don't have as much time.
Of course you can always change your goal, because it's all a win with more words written.

We even have people who handwrite. One woman at our write in today was averaging 450 words of handwriting in 20 minutes. Another woman wrote her entire 50K work by hand for several years running.

Coda - glad you're happy about your work!

you can do it!! =)

Coda 11-13-2017 11:55 PM

Well, I've written 1700 words today... so I at least made my ORIGINAL quota. Would be better if I can get another 500 words in before bedtime.

trystan830 11-13-2017 11:58 PM

go Coda! you can do it!!

Quiet Man Cometh 11-14-2017 03:19 AM

Ugh. I got sick! No recent progress at all for me.

I can make the daily word counts if I have the material, it's not really a huge amount of typing, but I've yet to really have the material. I legit have a section of my describing a chandelier that was above my head during a write-in.

Typing speed helps to. There was this one guy in a region I used to be part of that would put up multi-hundred thousand word counts each year and he credited his typing speed. Three digits, but I can't remember which ones.

Death by Mirrors 11-14-2017 05:25 AM

Describing a chandelier is completely legit during November. The one time I participated in Script Frenzy (before they changed the goal to pages instead of words) I splurged on descriptions how the scene was set and what each character's motives and clothes were to be. One of them even literally wore a shirt with the label "This shirt also contributes to the word count".

Silly stuff, but it works for me when stuck.

Coda 11-14-2017 11:22 AM

Indeed, gratuitous, unnecessary detail is a completely valid NaNoWriMo tactic.

Coda 11-16-2017 12:26 PM

Starting to despair. I keep having days where I don't have enough time to write. Yesterday I only managed to squeeze in 344 words. The day before that, 186. This sucks and it's really demotivating.

trystan830 11-16-2017 12:29 PM

if it helps, there's been days where all i've had was a big fat zero for the word count for that day. stuff happens.

ZenKitty 11-21-2017 01:34 AM

Stopping by to cheer everyone on!

You can do it! Whatever your goal - you can do it! :)

Coda 11-21-2017 12:10 PM

Ugh. I went four days without doing ANY writing. x.x I'm trying to get my momentum back but my last post was half written five days ago and half written last night.

Coda 11-21-2017 08:19 PM

THAT'S better. That's 1967 words so far today, and I'm not done yet. I found my groove on Bubble Man -- I knew from the beginning what the plans for this one were and I had been looking forward to writing it, but I didn't want to jump into it earlier because it would have felt like a big drag to go back to the more constrained, less visible scenes that come before it in the chronology.

EDIT: *does math* Ew. Missing out on four days after having poor pacing before that means I'd have to average over 3900 words per day (counting today) for the rest of the month if I'm going to hit 50k. That's a real blow.

EDIT: ... I don't know when I screwed up my word counts, but apparently I'm only at 11216, not 12763. That's a whole day's worth of writing not lining up right...

EDIT: Okay, I accidentally forgot to include the Wood Man segment. Total is 12713 now. The 50-word discrepancy was a typo on the very first day. ^^()

trystan830 11-21-2017 09:31 PM

you can do it Coda!!! =)

Quiet Man Cometh 11-21-2017 11:15 PM

I went a week without doing anything because sick. :(

But, I did some looking over of my paragraphs today and I'd say I have 80% of a continuous story! Just need to attach it to the remaining 20%.

trystan830 11-21-2017 11:23 PM

ooh, that's cool too, Quiet Man!
