I was pretty sure we were done with snow and winter, I was looking forward to Spring and sun. This winter seems pretty miserable. Lots of snow, and very little sun.
Do we have the ability to save our avis yet? |
everyone was pretty sure we were done with winter! XD
and i don't know about saving avis yet. |
okay I thought maybe I'd missed the announcement.
I know Toho was working on it, and hopefully it will be a function soon. I hope he gets us a ping function too, that is really helpful. |
yeah, a ping function would be cool.
|
it would be easier for me, cause I forget who I was talking to, what forums I was on. I just always feels people think I'm blowing them off.
|
yep, exactly. this way we can keep track of who's talking to who about what.
|
Toho realized how convenient it is when he saw how well it worked on Syn.
|
well, they are convenient... =)
|
Very convenient, especially for people like me that are usually brain dead by 9PM!
|
i'm usually brain dead most of the time! XD

I reset my password and then promptly forgot what it was so I haven't been on in a while because I didn't want to reset my password again. I got home, couldn't read my writing (I actually wrote it down!) and then had to reset anyway.
Still reading An Imaginary Life. I was planning on leaving it at 'home base' back where I was with my mom (and where half of my stuff resides) as the book stack out here is getting bigger. This thread is actually making me try to read more, which I think it also helping out my mental state these days, with stress from school and health and such. I've probably put more time in the past month or so than I have in a while. I have to update my list! |
I agree that using this thread makes me read a little more. I am already way ahead this time of the year than I was last year. Last year I spent so much time on stupid stuff online instead of reading. I have weaned myself off most of it.
I am happiest when I am reading and in a reading mood! I just finished Clara Callan, and have two more books I'm in the middle of. I like to keep it to one fiction and one non-fiction, but I seem to be reading more non-fiction now. |
I always forget about this thread. So it doesn't really help me to read more.
But I might possibly be ahead of last year...although I don't honestly remember. |
I'm having a hard time not starting another book. I'm lying in bed at night and don't feel like reading Imaginary Life and I keep leaning towards my Clive Barker book that is still sitting there. Not sure why I have a thing for reading horror and creepy things at night. Doesn't feel quite right at other times, at least when I was reading Lovecraft it didn't.
Then there's Memories of Ice. It's been staring at me for over a year now, maybe 2? It's a good thing I have a decent memory for things I read. |
Haha...I understand the starting a new book thing. I keep reaching for a book I picked up the other day only to remind myself that I have several books I need to finish first.
|
...I bought another book today. But it was on sale! And it was only one book. Usually I leave with more. I only left with one can of tea from the tea store, too. Those are my two downfalls when I'm out shopping.
|
Tea shops are the best!
And hey. Only one book? That's some good willpower! |
i've updated my list! it's #7 on page 1. =)

Yeah, books like that can take a while to get through. What is Memories of Ice about? Is it fiction or non-fiction? Also, same questions about An Imaginary Life.
I might have to hunt down a copy of it/them to read... |
Hi guys, how are you all doing. OMG I forgot my own thread, I get so tired at night lately.
I have not been reading much, though I am further along on my goal than I was last year at this time. I have been reading mostly non-fiction. Has anybody read any really good books lately? |
I've read a book or two. Mainly have just been struggling through the same ones as before though.
|
Are you still reading The Devil in the White City? It is right up there on my to-read list. As is H is for Hawk which was very popular about a year ago.
Right now I am reading a book on Buddhism called Being Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh, it is very good. I have read a lot of his books. |
Ah no. I finished that one back in January.
I'm currently actively working on When True Night Falls, The Masterharper of Pern, and a few other books. And have a few others that I started months ago, but need to re-start. |

An Imaginary Life is by David Malouf, and is about the Roman poet Ovid in exile and living with barbarians. It's also hard to explain. I'd maybe think of it as something of an illustrated philosophy rather than a narrative story. Have some series cover art! Malazan Book of the Fallen |
and... I updated my list again - took me only a few days to read a Supernatural novel XD

I'll browse the nearby book store next week. |
whenever i've seen the word Fallen, i keep seeing it as "Falleen" - a race from the Star Wars 'verse. XD
|
How did you like Devil in the White City?
It is still pretty popular, so I'm thinking its really good? |
It got a bit dry in a few parts, but was pretty good. I liked the writing style.

Well, if all else fails, I can probably hunt them down online.
|
@Kad
Yeah NF gets dry at some points. Talk about dry: I've been reading The Source Field Investigation since last September. It gets really dry and I just put it down. I've picked it up again. I want to read H is for Hawk, it is supposed to be very good. |
Was looking at my bookshelf last night and spotted some books I forgot I had. They don't fit my challenge categories though, alas!
Can we link my post to the front page? I think it's on page 15, I'll double check. It's getting hard to find. :P EDIT: Right here! LIBT 2016 |
@Quiet: sorry about that, I missed your post.
I have added you to the first page. I just was looking on my bookshelf and found Smila's Sense of Snow. I watched the movie a long time ago and thought it was good, and I have heard the book is very good, so I will try to read it at some point. I am in a non-fiction loop that is all I've been reading. |
I just updated my reading list, I am on a good clip to meet m goal of 40.
I might even go over 40. I just started a syfy book by Eric Brown, my favorite Syfy writer called Engineman. |
i updated my list (post #7, page 1) - i'm reading book #13! =)
|
With the nice weather coming I will be reading a lot. I love to sit outside and read or on my terrace and read.
I noticed that you read Kindred. I loved that book. Have you tried Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by the same author, Octavia Butler? She is an amazing author, try those best dystopian books I have ever read. |
Kindred is the only book by her that i read....but i think i'm done with dystopia for a while! XD
|
Yeah I totally get that, but these books are different.
If you ever want to try the genre again try these. Or Station Eleven, which was quite a different take on the subject. |
