Simultaneously awesome and awful, so into the shouting thread it goes!

My wife is currently undergoing a double jaw surgery to correct an overbite that's been bothering her for all her life, and it turns out that it will also correct a respiratory obstruction she never knew she had. The hospital will be calling me with hourly updates, and I just got the first of those to let me know that the anesthetic is working and that the surgery is underway with no issues or complications.

It's positive and hopeful, in that this could really improve her quality of life in a way she can't really imagine. The surgeon has plenty of experience and while the procedure is moderately invasive it's also reasonably straightforward with few risks of complications.

It's also anxiety-inducing, in that it's a major surgery. It's a five-hour procedure that involves cutting and moving a lot of bone. The worst case scenario is exceptionally unlikely, but my protective instincts toward my wife are naturally amplifying the emotional reaction. And even in the best case she's going to be in the hospital overnight for monitoring, she'll have her jaw tied closed for at least two weeks, she'll be on a liquid diet for that whole time, and she's going to have to manage a lot of pain.

Intellectually I know that everything will be fine, and that the recovery isn't going to take that long in the grand scheme of things. But emotionally I'm running on three hours of sleep because I had to get her checked in before dawn and I'm concerned for my beloved.

;.; Coda you must really love your wife! To loose sleep and combat such worry despite their being little to worry about... ;u; It's a testament to the unconventional yet refreshing relationship between few married couples. I hope your wife knows how concerned and supportive you're being!

Actual shout: >8O I forgot to order the plastic spiders for my brother's cake! AAAAAAAAAAAA NOOOOOOOO!!! <xO

{{hugs to Coda and his wife}}

Coda 03-18-2020 01:35 PM

I got a call from the hospital. The surgery went fine and she just needs to wake up from the anesthetic and get a review, then they'll bring her into a room where she'll spend the night. I can join her once she's in that room.

Stabbsworth 03-18-2020 01:55 PM

good good. that's good.

Kaderin Triste 03-18-2020 02:59 PM

Hope the recovery goes well!

And ugh, could have sworn that I had 2 lip balms in my coat pocket but now they're gone and did I put them in the fridge with the intent to grab different ones and forget or are they just...gone?

Glad to see the scariest part is over, Coda. I bet she can't wait to start feeling better in comparison to how things were before the surgery.

KittyBeary 03-18-2020 05:52 PM

I have an overbite as well and have been offered a correction but I didn't want to go through that. ;_; Plus it doesn't bother me all that much so I doubt I'll ever undergo surgery for it. I would only need my lower jaw to be moved forward though but when I was told everything about that my anxiety said nope. It isn't required and my health is just fine regardless so lmao yeah no. If I've lived 30 years with it, I can live the rest of my life with it.

The worst I had to deal with was being bullied over it in elementary school. But that's all in the past.

The surgeon had said she'd notice how much better she'd feel about breathing right away.

We didn't believe him.

We should have. Even with her face totally swollen up, she said she was breathing clearly in a way that she didn't even realize she was missing for all of her life.

Braces can do some level of correction without needing surgery, if it's not too bad.

Stabbsworth 03-19-2020 10:29 AM

me, with a slight overbite:

anyways, it's good that she's doing well!

At this point anytime anyone starts going off about some coronavirus conspiracy theory, I fully check out of that conversation. It's getting ridiculous.

I wish your wife a speedy recovery, Coda!!!

My shout;
My medication compromises my immune system, making me at higher risk of catching COVID19 than the average person.
It's really, really frustrating. I'm hoping that maybe my psychiatrist will let me change back to one of my previous medications. I hope so...
This has been the longest I've been out of the hospital, so I'm sure my psychiatrist won't be too happy to put me back on a medication that "failed".

>:(

Kaderin Triste 03-19-2020 05:22 PM

Just realized that though I want to get my hair professionally cut again, I probably shouldn't and at this point may not even be able to...
Not sure what style/cut I want anyway though so might look into that and see if I can maybe get in this weekend before things get too crazy here...
Idk. My hair is just getting long and frizzy and is driving me crazy and looks like crap when I cut it myself.

Kory 03-19-2020 05:32 PM

I don't trust salon hairstylists to cut my hair. :(
Honestly, I don't trust them to do anything but dye it... And even then, I can only go to certain stylists because I have very curly, afro hair...

On days that I feel daring enough to try a stylist, I always bring pictures of the style or color I want.

If you lived nearer to here I'd recommend my sister.

stuff i'm planning to do: The Dark Crystal, except it's solely the Chamberlain's 'MMMMmmMmMMmMMMmMMMMMMMM' noise.

I've only ever had 1 bad hair cut/style experience. And the cut itself was fine, but I said I didn't want it styled, but she styled it anyway and I looked like the mom from the Brady Bunch.

But I always try to bring reference images for the cut I want.
I just don't know what haircuts actually are gonna look good on me and I want something different than my usual sharp a-line.

Stabbsworth 03-20-2020 01:43 PM

tfw a server admin sends you a friend request and you decline it because of RSD-related issues.

i have no idea if i've fucked up but, like. so now i can't use a very basic feature of discord just because of RSD.

I tried that once.

I asked for Owen Wilson. Had a picture and everything.

I got Lord Farquaad.

Kaderin Triste 03-20-2020 01:52 PM

Unless you were asking for owen wilson with a mullet, how'd they manage to fuck it up that badly? O.o
Because Farquaad's hair is actually pretty long...

Coda 03-20-2020 02:24 PM

Owen Wilson's hair isn't exactly short, though. He's had it at various lengths over history, and the picture I had was of a shaggy surfer-ish style. Not exactly the length and style he had in Zoolander but kinda similar.

It would appear that the stylist I was seeing at the time just didn't know how to do any sort of men's styling outside of a standard short cut. It doesn't help that the natural wave of my hair is wider than Owen's.

Kaderin Triste 03-20-2020 02:39 PM

Yeah, but farwuaad's hair is like almost shoulder-length...

Ah, yeah, natural curl can have a big impact.

Sooo...who wants to help me pick a haircut?!

I've had three *really* bad experiences with stylists...

I'm going to put these in spoilers because they're long stories

I'm not sure yet!
From what I know, they've been working on a S2, but so far Netflix hasn't renewed the series, but they haven't cancelled it either.

;n;

trystan830 03-20-2020 04:17 PM

well that's... encouraging?

i also have V-Wars on my Netflix list to watch, and there might be a s2 of that show as well.

i have TP now XD

but I'm not as crocheting as much as I thought I might be though. too many online forums XD

<xD Heck if I could, I'd goof around all day online!
:/ Usually I move onto other stuff to distract or relax or sustain me, and then I don't go back online for a bit..

trystan830 03-20-2020 05:46 PM

that's what i do every day! (tee hee, don't tell my boss that)

Merskelly Metalien 03-20-2020 05:54 PM

I have no idea. Most of the population where she lives is white or Hispanic. There are some Black families in the area, but I couldn't tell you if any of them are patrons of hers.

Kaderin Triste 03-20-2020 07:13 PM

Really hoping the guy who's supposed to close at Joann shows up. XP
I'm tired and cranky and while extra money is nice, I kinda don't want to work a 6.5 hour shift on an empty stomach. 4.5 hours is annoying enough. And because it would only be the assistant manager and I, I'd have to do a working lunch instead of actually getting a lunch so I wouldn't even have time to buy a snack or anything.

Merskelly Metalien 03-20-2020 07:35 PM

8] I wanna get mmmpizzaaaaa.~ Let's go pick up some pi-zza.~ =u= <3
Gonna eat some pizzaaaa!~ YeeeEEAAaa Pizza!~ x]

Omg pizza sounds so good right now! I may need to stop at albertsons on the way home to see what they have in stock...

Merskelly Metalien 03-20-2020 08:52 PM

*monches on pizza slice*
:/ hmmm...it looks like I don't really care for THESE anchovies. B/
But at least I know now that I can handle the olives. :T

Biomecha 03-20-2020 09:00 PM

I never realized just how different anchovies could taste when not brined or salt cured until I finally tried them.

Merskelly Metalien 03-20-2020 09:08 PM

e~< Yeucghk. These ones were way too strong and salty.
>~< Did NOT compliment the cheese or mushrooms at ALL.
*launches sweet corn pops into my mouth hole to get rid of the taste*

Kory 03-20-2020 09:08 PM

I had pizza ordered about three days ago,
It was yummy :d

I usually prefer just plain cheese,
But I added olives and onions to switch things up
