Ventus 09-16-2010 05:25 PM

If you're going on for a while it will eventually become one eh? <_<; I don't think it's fun if it's too long every post.

AceValkyrie 09-16-2010 05:26 PM

I lost interest if people post novel-length posts because it feels as if its a competition..

Alex.. Yea because I feel as if I am letting someone take a look into how I am in bed and I am uncomfortable with that.. i dont know why, lol

Alexander Linden 09-16-2010 05:27 PM

In fact, this is a sample of an INTRODUCTION post I wrote. (No need to read it, this is just to show length).

Quote:

This is the first post I wrote for the 'Solemn High' RP on the site-that-must-not-be-named. I was actually quite proud of this post, so I decided to post it here in my portfolio.

A few things to note: this may be the first post by me in the rp, but it is a reaction to a few things that happened in another post that came before I posted. His instructor threw kendo swords at them, and two, they are demons and each have certain powers. His instructor has control of fire magics, I.E. the sparks that he reacts to is something she did to get the students attention, and the kendo stick stopping in front of him is the result of his telekinetic abilities.

------------------------------------------

Punctual was one word to describe him, though it was something completely different when he was the first one there about an hour before the club activities were supposed to even begin. In fact, Ms. Blake, the teacher who had started the club, hadn't even arrived herself.

It had been just the other day that Gabriel had mentioned to the red-headed instructor that he had been in a kendo club at his old school. Of course, he had to quit that along with many other activities before he began his study here at Solemn High, and he was just a little disappointed upon arrival that no such club had been formed. He assumed this was one of the reasons that the teacher had decided to start this club herself, though there must have been a few other factors, considering the word of just one student wouldn't be enough to set up the battle room for practice.

So there he in the middle of the battle room in meditation. It had been a deep meditation at first, but about forty-five minutes later, some of the students had already started showing up, along with Ms. Blake herself.

He waited as the other students chatted amongst themselves, and didn't even look the instructors way when he heard loud sparks she used to grab the attention of the students, a younger student next to him jumped at the sound, and Gabriel only scratched the side of his head in response.

After looking over the other students in the room, he assumed that very little of them had actually been in a club like this before. There were a lot of them though, he hadn't realized there would be this much interest in such a club at all.

It was then that just a glance stopped the wooden sword about half a foot in front of him. Staring at it for a moment, he adjusted his black-framed glasses, then reached to take the motionless object out of the air.

Icy blue eyes darted to the right as a second year asked if he would practice with them. He looked the younger girl over for a moment, and decided it would be alright. They were supposed to change partners every few minutes anyway, and he hoped somewhere along the line he would find a more challenging student to spar with. He already assumed that he would be one of the two students sparring with Ms. Blake at the end of the 'meeting' anyway.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a red-haired student catching a wooden kendo sword. Testamente, that was his name. The other student was in the same class as him, and he wondered if the other had been trained with a sword. Maybe he would get a chance to test out the other after a few sparring matches with some of the younger students.

He didn't really know Testamente very well, but they had had a few assignments to do together, both being hunters and all. The other man was arrogant and self centered, but for some reason, Gabriel liked him. This was very uncommon, considering Gabriel really didn't have much of an impression of any of the students. He usually kept to himself and rarely made connections with the others. Cold was a word that he had heard people describe him as, though that wasn't really the case. Truth was, Gabriel was actually quite shy, and that was the real reason that kept him from making such connections.

After practicing with some of the other students, he started to grow a bit bored with them. His assumption at the beginning of the club meeting was obviously right, a lot of the students had not had any sort of sword training. His eyes once again settled on Testamente as the student he had just practiced with went to find another partner with a frustrated sigh.

Hi Rainy!
Bye Rainy ~
oh man RPs
I used to do that almost exclusively...when I joined Gaia that's all I did, I was part of this group of ppl in Barton OOC / Town that we just all kinda congregated to the same roleplays..usually advanced lit / lit stuff. I do miss it, but I haven't group roleplayed in probably three or four years x.x

The only person I'm RPing with now is my bf and I've been laaaazy about it >_>;; I do love drawing our OCs tho!
More than RPing them I think xD

Ventus 09-16-2010 05:28 PM

And I do not mix real life with roleplay. Some people have a hard time with this. If my character says "You suck" it doesn't mean they suck it means their character does according to my character at that moment. And I usually do NOT have the same opinions as my characters. An that includes everything else. I do not think of the actual roleplayer while doing stuff. I do as an actor you kinda have to melt into the personality and become someone else.

Alexander Linden 09-16-2010 05:29 PM

I draw my OCs too.. xD
A lot.

johnny 09-16-2010 05:30 PM

I don't really care how long a post is as long as it actually provides me with something to reply to.

Seven paragraphs of personal reflection and flash-back scenes for your character does nothing for mine. D<

Alexander Linden 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

haha, well it was an introduction. A normal post of mine would give your character something to do.

Azrael 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

I've been getting some of my OCs drawn. Except the only thing I don't like about getting OCs drawn is my OCs are usually exclusive to only one RP... and so I can't use them much x.x'

And yeeeah way too long for me.

Hey rem.

Rem 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

Ventus - YES. People playing their OCs as themselves and mixing their real feelings with the RP causes major major drama. It nearly broke up one of my home threads. I know aaaall about that crap. u_u Ugh.

Alex - Yesssss
I still have to get some of your art :V
I tried! You didn't hold enough auctions, man

edit: Hey Azra!

Alexander Linden 09-16-2010 05:33 PM

Rem - The only way to get my art now is either to RL commission me or on TM. I'm not planning on opening an art shop here (mostly because I work for Trisphee).

I really need the money anyway though. xD So my RL slots are pretty much always open.

XD Same here. Exactly same here.

I almost never put thoughts or parts that have no character interaction unless it's needed. It seems pointless to me since the point of an RP is to interact with another person's character, I always thought. >3<' So rambling on about what yours is thinking, doing, feeling... It does nothing. May as well go off and write by yourself.

Sephiroth 09-16-2010 05:33 PM

Mewp! *perches in Johnny's lap*

Rem 09-16-2010 05:35 PM

johnny - XD HAHA OMG do you hate that too when someone will post like five paragraphs of character development but only give you like ONE actual event/action to try to post upon?
I mean don't get me wrong I love character development.
But our OCs can't sit around ruminating with their inner thoughts for like, five hours..

edit: And I also dislike RPing with people who, in the entirety of their posts, ONLY repeat back to me the actions I have just done with my character. And then maybe .. maybeeee give me like a smile, or an extra hug to go on.
It feels like you're just pulling the RP along all by yourself then.

Ventus 09-16-2010 05:35 PM

Isn't it kinda hard not to draw them. I mean some people can't draw and that's okay, you can describe it too. Well, I think even if your'e not that great it's fun to see people try drawing their characters. I hate when people steal characters. It's okay to say "he looks kinda like this", but it is not okay to just grab a picture, put it in your signature and write "lol my rpc". D: I love it though when some straight 13 year old grabs a guy from a gay porn game. Then you tell them and they are like: "uuaaaaanoooouu!"...

It's a good thing to post what your character is feeling and their emotions at the time as well. It makes your character seem very flat if you don't and it makes it harder for other characters to 'read' yours.

johnny 09-16-2010 05:37 PM

I do put thoughts and personal feelings of the character into the post, because that sort of stuff does give a (good) roleplayer something to work with. If the character's thinking sarcastically while acting nice and pleasant, it tells the other player that their character should be a little suspect of what my character's doing. It gives a little insight into the tone and personality of the character - not so that the other character can know exactly what's going on, but at least so the other player knows that when that nice-and-friendly character pulls out a knife and threatens the other character, it's not completely out of left-field.

I pretty much always draw my own characters, or have a friend draw them for me. xD

Azrael 09-16-2010 05:38 PM

Oh I don't mean not to show /any/ of their inner thoughts, emotions, etc. I just meant not paragraphs upon paragraphs of that. XD I kinda realized what it sounded like after I posted but was too lazy to edit.

And yeah. ._. I'll often use pictures to show like, basic appearance, but that's never /exactly/ my character. Especially since, often, the feel is wrong, or there's little details not quite right, etc...

haha Yeah. Though if you want your character to be mysterious, the other people will end up being suspicious anyway. That's just kind of a normal reaction to someone you don't know well.

Oh, well yeah. I won't do that either. You need to think in the moment, and give the others something to do. That being said, my regular posts aren't as long as my intros. They'll end up being 3-5 paragraphs usually, but sometimes shorter if I feel like I've gotten my point across.

johnny 09-16-2010 05:40 PM

I don't use pictures for my characters unless I take the time to draw them myself, which pretty much never happens.

I figure roleplaying is a writing/reading/imagination medium. If you can't take a description and visualize something, you probably shouldn't be roleplaying. :/

Ventus 09-16-2010 05:40 PM

I write thoughts but I think it's retarded when people go on like..."the sky was blue, the trees were green and it smelled poop"...whatever...

Rem 09-16-2010 05:41 PM

Alex - Aaahhh alas, I am broke as a joke.

While I do agree with this, I really enjoy drawing, so I'll end up drawing them at some point regardless. It's fun! haha

Azrael 09-16-2010 05:41 PM

XD I suck at descriptions which is why I don't usually describe them too much, since it never does the character justice to me. Especially with hair style, etc. That's why I use pictures. >3<

And oh 3-5 isn't too bad. XD Still a lil high to me but those aren't too bad.

anyway gtg bbl.

See character art. I love it. I can't draw myself so I really enjoy seeing how other people 'see'the OCs. I don't rp as much online. I'm more of the pen and paper and dice kind of Rper. I like the online rp but I've had my fill of the strange melding of OC with IC. I won't even Rp a romantic or relationship other than friends in on online rp as I am married in RL and for me, it's a bit to close and personal. I'm a very jealous sort and wouldn't want my husband to be playing in a roleplay where he has an IC girlfriend or wife other than my character. /crazy bitch

Sadrain 09-16-2010 05:48 PM

I'm heading off now.
I hope you're feeling better today, Sephiroth, and in any case, you must rest and don't you think of forgetting that and skipping sleep. >.>

Rem 09-16-2010 05:49 PM

Re: drawing OCs - I'm just proud of the fact I've managed to get one of my mine to look exactly like he looks in my head (seriously, I actually tend to view my OCs as cartoons/comic characters more than flesh and blood people xD I think that's cos I'm a comic geek and all the characters I really know and love are drawn/animated...) So drawing him has become SO FUN

Rainy!
Can i has cuddles? o3o

I mean
G'night! Sleep tight

The character in my sig is my Dungeons and Dragons character. He's a level 5 wizard and level 2 swashbuckler. I have a D&D group that used to get together many times a week, but we haven't gotten together in a while. I hope we can play again soon.
