CODA HAS A BIRB! <3

Stabbsworth 02-09-2020 01:41 PM

birb time birb time

Kory 02-09-2020 05:23 PM

Aww! The birdy!

Does he sing?

Espy 02-09-2020 06:14 PM

tfw you have one single rune

Coda 02-09-2020 11:23 PM

Coda has two birbs. I don't know if I have a picture of the other one right now, but he's a blue and yellow budgie ("parakeet"). His name is Strive, and he's still a baby -- he's not even a year old yet.

The cockatiel's name is Totoro because he's gray and white and round and fluffy. He's... I think 4 years old? And he does sing, though not as much as he used to. He mostly just sings when he's upset and wants attention. He can sing the theme song from My Neighbor Totoro, as well as the Mickey Mouse March.

Strive doesn't sing songs but he's still a great mimic. He can do R2D2 really well... and he also does an impersonation of Totoro so well that I have to pay attention in order to know which bird is calling out. XD And being able to tell the difference is important, because while Strive can imitate Totoro's sounds perfectly, he uses them for completely different purposes. What Totoro uses for "nobody's paying attention to me!" Strive just mixes in as part of his happy chatter.

KittyBeary 02-09-2020 11:48 PM

*u* Omg a bird that sings the Totoro theme. Best bird ever! <3

Stabbsworth 02-10-2020 01:12 PM

fuckin love birds, man.

Coda 02-10-2020 01:18 PM

Nah, they're not love birds; that's a different genus. ;)

(I kid.)

Stabbsworth 02-10-2020 01:49 PM

stares at you with the anger of ten thousand, scottish suns. (/joke)

Kaderin Triste 02-10-2020 10:18 PM

Oh goody! There's a suspected case of coronavirus in my state!

yeah, I thought I was pretty safe in Mesa, AZ, bc it's pretty insulated... and then an ASU student was infected and flew in via PHX. SO ANYWAYS, my uni has a case of coronavirus. Fun times.

Espy 02-11-2020 01:22 AM

I thought the whole state of MT was pretty safe because nothing comes here, not even Ikea. (No really, the nearest major/popular stores, concerts, conventions, etc all tend to be a minimum of 2 states away...) But viruses don't follow the same rules as anything else, so we'll see I guess. Hasn't been confirmed yet, but if it turns out to be coronavirus, I'm within 200 miles of it.

Espy 02-11-2020 06:14 AM

-laughs nervously- Yeah, I’m within 20 miles of the Maricopa county case.

Ah, that sucks! Hopefully it's been contained properly and doesn't spread. From what I've read, it seems like the cases popping up in most states seem to be controlled right away and haven't spread much/at all.

trystan830 02-11-2020 11:37 AM

this coronavirus thing is kinda scary

Kaderin Triste 02-11-2020 11:43 AM

Yeah, I feel bad for China. They've had so many deaths already.
But I don't think it will spread nearly as bad in other places because we've had a little more warning than China did about it so the doctors here and other places have a better idea how to handle and control cases of it to keep it from spreading as much as possible.

I'm mildly anxious about it, but I'm mildly anxious about most things so that's nothing new.
May pick up some extra hand sanitizer just as a precautionary measure and to calm my mind a bit.
It won't fully prevent anything on it's own, but it will make me feel better

yeah, this seems about where i'm at too.

Espy 02-11-2020 11:51 AM

Right now the more immediate problem is people being arsewipes to people who are/look East Asian. Fortunately I haven’t gotten any of that overtly yet.

Kaderin Triste 02-11-2020 12:03 PM

Seriously?!? But....just because a person has come from Asian/East Asian decent doesn't mean they have even ever been to the infected area!
People are panicking idiots.

trystan830 02-11-2020 12:04 PM

those arsewipes are bigoted idjits

Kaderin Triste 02-11-2020 01:39 PM

For happier news: both of my chainmail supply orders have shipped and should be arriving (I estimate) on the 13th and 14th! And then I can make pretty things!

Merskelly Metalien 02-12-2020 01:00 AM

How did I get so poor so fast? o_o; I just bought some hair.
Now I'm down to 23 Aurum. x}

trystan830 02-12-2020 11:22 AM

check yer trades, Merskelly! :D

Kaderin Triste 02-12-2020 01:12 PM

Whoooo! I am just a little ball of stress and anxiety today but I have no clue why!

Stabbsworth 02-12-2020 02:08 PM

worst thing about RSD is that it can and will trigger itself.

Biomecha 02-12-2020 09:44 PM

Annoying how brushing the teeth of my father's dog every day still wasn't enough to prevent an emergency dental appointment.

Kory 02-12-2020 10:23 PM

The coronavirus has so many people here spooked.
I guess since it's Los Angeles, there's always loads and loads of tourists and I've lately seen several people (not just East Asian appearing) wearing those surgical masks around town...

Not just at the popular tourist-y areas, but even just walking down the street in a neighborhood or at the local grocer and the farmers market.

Thinking I may need to transfer my photos off my phone and clear it out...
But as soon as I do, I'll absolutely need to share one of them.

Lol
But also need to clear up room on my phone.

KittyBeary 02-13-2020 09:32 PM

I need to transfer photos off my phone as well uwu

Derpy McBlueEyes 02-13-2020 09:59 PM

Derpy waddles in. "I'm weady for Vawentine's day!" He announces cheerful, tugging at his new skirt.

Accursed dyslexia!

Stabbsworth 02-14-2020 12:51 PM

coda has dyslexia??

grumbles about people saying that other people are narcissistic -- this further stigmatizes NPD for fuck's sake!

It's not super severe, and I read fast enough regardless that I can correct most reading errors before they cause problems. For the most part, it just leads to me noticing amusing misreadings and joking about it.

It's only an issue if the misreading still makes sense so I don't NOTICE that it was a misreading.

Stabbsworth 02-14-2020 01:37 PM

ah.

my brother has bad dyslexia to the point he can only make out short sentences / short words. he's getting a bit better with it.

Coda 02-14-2020 01:41 PM

Yeah, I have no idea what's up with the way my nervous system is wired. According to speed reading research, my reading speed is supposed to be unachievable. (If I really push myself I can read 1600wpm with 80% comprehension/retention. I don't usually TRY to read that fast, in no small part because I prefer better retention rates but also because especially with fiction I intentionally slow down to visualize/audiate the content.) But I have that kind of reading speed and dyslexia, and I have ADHD and sensory processing issues... I'm sure it's all related somehow.

Stabbsworth 02-14-2020 01:44 PM

h. huh.

realistically i have no idea how you'd manage that. i read pretty quickly but oftentimes have trouble retaining information, hence why i go over it again just to make sure, y'know? not too sure about my actual reading speed.

suspect that might be linked to either adhd or autism (i show symptoms of both).
