I know!

And vexation I say! My review book from March still hasn't arrived. The publishers have another ll days before it's officially late though. I saw a copy in store last week and I want one. My book for April is the next Tom Gates.

I haven't even started my classic horror anthology and the library is wanting stuff back. Eek! I've sort of been neglecting things as well. Can't believe I've been slowly leafing through Sword of Destiny since January. I want to read it now but I need to get Caligari finished so I can return it. I've renewed it twice already, I think.

trystan830 05-13-2019 06:06 PM

from March? wow!

Quiet Man Cometh 05-13-2019 06:10 PM

Yeah. The list is up for the month and then the winners are chosen and the houses have 60 days I think to get the books out to the reviewers.

trystan830 05-13-2019 06:13 PM

ah, gotcha.

trystan830 05-14-2019 05:09 PM

Quiet Man Cometh 05-24-2019 04:59 AM

Finished Caligari. Deciding between Vas or Sword of Destiny now, to finish some off.

trystan830 05-24-2019 03:53 PM

whoops, i need to update my sig. i'm taking another break from Middle Earth and am reading a Murdoch Mystery right now. i'll update it in a little bit....

Quiet Man Cometh 05-26-2019 11:59 PM

Were those always books? I only know the TV show for Murdoch Mysteries. I have a couple Midsomer Murders books hanging around. I've found three of the six so far: The Killings at Badger's Drift, Death of a Hollow Man, and I think Written in Blood.

trystan830 05-27-2019 12:17 AM

actually when you watch the tv show Murdoch Mysteries, one of the last credits to show is it's based on the books by Maureen Jennings.

the first book, Except the Dying, was published in 1997. book 2 was 1998, book 3 1991, book 4 2003, book 5 2005, book 6 2006, book 7 2007... and book 8 in 2017! the show started in 2008.

also, i can has s13 of Murdoch Mysteries now?? XD

Quiet Man Cometh 06-11-2019 03:43 AM

Well, my march review book I've declared a no-show. How rude!

On the plus side, dropped off a late book at the library today, but copied the bibliography first. Someone left a ten cents credit on the copier, so I could copy my page with my one nickel! And the guy at the desk waved the late fees as well. (All of 35 cents but cool!). Good day.

One of the books I have out is something called "Lord Byron; the vampyre and the poet." I have to say, that title had me curious.

trystan830 06-11-2019 10:30 AM

oh that is an interesting title.

i'm taking a little break from Middle Earth, and am reading the latest Mercy Thompson novel, Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs; and then i have another Murdoch Mystery novel after that.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-13-2019 03:46 AM

Whoops, an error in the title there. It's actually "The Poet and the Vampyre: The Cures of Byron and the Birth of Literature's Greatest Monsters." Byron has been credited as the inspiration for the Ann Rice style of vampire, with noble demeanor and charismatic nuances, etc. It goes back to when Frankenstein was invented, so I'm curious to read about it. I know there is a fiction work where Byron gets tempted by a vampire. He was in the habit of going out at all hours of the night and sleeping all day. Along with things like drinking from a cup made of a skull and bringing a pet bear to university (they wouldn't let him bring his dog).

trystan830 06-13-2019 09:49 AM

heh, that sounds amusing.

but that's cool about Byron

trystan830 06-26-2019 11:57 AM

finished another Murdoch Mystery. i have two sidetracks (Shakespeare; and a sappy cat story) and then onto the next Murdoch Mystery. i'll get back to Middle Earth eventually..... XD

Quiet Man Cometh 06-28-2019 05:08 AM

Updated my list but I think I may have forgotten one. Still haven't been reading my library books. Bad me.

trystan830 06-28-2019 04:39 PM

meanwhile, i haven't been reading my own books.... LOL

Merskelly Metalien 06-29-2019 10:27 PM

I haven't gotten back to my reading challenge either. ^~^; But I got a book full of spooky national park stories and legends. <:} I-I'll read it..lllater. ^U^;

Kaderin Triste 07-01-2019 07:27 PM

I, also, have not been reading books. XP
Probably should though. I should really pick some shorter ones to read...

Quiet Man Cometh 07-02-2019 11:50 PM

I renewed my book loan for the third time. Actually starting one of them.

Also a few more requested because it's reading challenge time again! Super secret stuff!

I've actually been listening to classic horror authors and such on youtube, and was working my way through The King In Yellow. Now I've switched to more modern stuff on a channel called "MrCreeps." A lot of people seem to call original horror online creepy pastas now, regardless of any urban legend feel it seems.

trystan830 07-03-2019 12:52 AM

oooh urban legends! <3

anyway. i finished my sappy kitty story, and i'm back to the Two Towers.... at least until the next Murdoch Mystery i put on hold comes in to my local library branch XD

Quiet Man Cometh 07-03-2019 01:26 AM

Looking at the new list of books to review. Deciding between one collection based on British folklore and a book about an old, arthritic dog trying to hold his breaking family together because he's a dog and that's what he do.

Dogs are best. ;)

trystan830 07-03-2019 10:08 AM

aww the dog book sounds like a cat book i have on my goodreads list, CLEO: The Cat Who Mended a Family. not sure if i'll actually read it or not... when i was reading Love Saves the Day, i was alternating between crying and laughing. *sigh*

Merskelly Metalien 07-04-2019 02:09 PM

:D I've been reading my own unfinished stories...and writing here and there, does that count??

trystan830 07-04-2019 02:12 PM

uhhh.... sure?

Merskelly Metalien 07-04-2019 02:14 PM

Yey! <x} I really should read the stuff I buy tho. hehe.

trystan830 07-04-2019 02:39 PM

what about both?

Merskelly Metalien 07-04-2019 04:03 PM

o-o;....yes..both! puq

trystan830 07-04-2019 06:39 PM

i do have some good ideas from time to time XD

Quiet Man Cometh 07-05-2019 05:54 AM

Got my seven days of reading for a draw ticket in my regional library's Summer Reading Club! They're allowing audio books and such as well so along with my Wollstonecraft Detective series book I'm reading, I have my horror story listening each night on my phone before I go to sleep.

trystan830 07-05-2019 04:24 PM

oooh. scary bedtime stories

Merskelly Metalien 07-05-2019 06:43 PM

o3o Spoopy tales for the summer!~

Quiet Man Cometh 07-08-2019 05:21 AM

Totally! I like Mr. Creeps' narration, though he has the odd pronunciation tick. I listened to parts of The King In Yellow by Librebox (I think. Not sure how it's spelled) that I liked as well. I got tired of Ian Gordon on HorrorBabble because he tends to sound the same each time.

trystan830 07-08-2019 10:11 AM

i've only ever listened to one or two audiobooks. i do have (on tape!) an audiobook of creepy short stories read by Geraint Wyn Davies, who was Nick Knight in Forever Knight. he's one of those voices that i wouldn't mind reading the phone book, but that's just me XD

trystan830 07-09-2019 02:05 PM

finished The Two Towers. off to get a Murdoch Mystery from the library. *woot*

Merskelly Metalien 07-09-2019 07:03 PM

Hooray! :D *claps for Trystan with water bottle in hand*

trystan830 07-09-2019 07:05 PM

well i LOL'd. but i'm also easily amused. XD

Merskelly Metalien 07-09-2019 07:36 PM

Hehe x} I'm amused by my antics and dorkiness...as well as everyone else's. *monches on empty water bottle*
