whitexsuicide 05-22-2012 02:41 PM

Kali_Namir 05-22-2012 02:47 PM

I wish I had more of them...

whitexsuicide 05-22-2012 02:48 PM

i think everyone does... even my friend that has almost the whole darn list of them!

Kali_Namir 05-22-2012 02:53 PM

I loved Totoro, but it's so hard to find them...

Reyoki 05-22-2012 02:54 PM

I've found them pretty easily in the 'Kids and Family' section of second-hand movie stores.

Kali_Namir 05-22-2012 02:55 PM

Well then I shall have to look a little harder.

whitexsuicide 05-22-2012 03:02 PM

i will too! off to good will and other stores of the like!

foxotanashi 05-22-2012 03:08 PM

Highfives to a movie hunt!

hyjin 05-22-2012 04:22 PM

movie hunt where? what movie?

Reyoki 05-22-2012 04:24 PM

ALL the Miyazaki Hayao-sensei movies!

hyjin 05-22-2012 04:31 PM

YES THOSE ARE THE BEST ONES EVA...

I like my neighbor is totoro and spirited away and howls moving castle

Reyoki 05-22-2012 04:36 PM

Totoro was the first Miyazaki film I ever watched. A few years ago I told my mom all I wanted for my birthday was for us to order some pizza and to rent Totoro. We did, and it was fantabulous.

hyjin 05-22-2012 04:38 PM

my first one was spirited away

foxotanashi 05-22-2012 05:22 PM

Mine was princess mononoke.

hyjin 05-22-2012 05:23 PM

that one confused me a bit

foxotanashi 05-22-2012 05:28 PM

I can see where it would be confusing.

hyjin 05-22-2012 05:30 PM

the whole plot of the film threw me off... and then so did the beheading of the spirit

foxotanashi 05-22-2012 06:00 PM

I must know, what is the black and white creature on your avi?

hyjin 05-22-2012 06:01 PM

Kamids pet furball...

Reyoki 05-22-2012 06:24 PM

Foxy, I told you what it was a couple pages back! It was on the very page you'd left off on yesterday!

hyjin 05-22-2012 06:25 PM

i dont think fox noticed them

Lucid: 05-22-2012 07:44 PM

My first Miyazaki movie was Porco Rosso. We watched a lot in my Japanese class, but none of the more popular ones. I never saw Totoro until last year. o.o

Quiet Man Cometh 05-22-2012 07:58 PM

I still haven't seen Totoro.

I've seen Mononoke (first one), Nausica, Porco Roso, Spirited Away, Howl's, Ponyo, and half of The Cat Returns. (not sure if all of those are his)

Actually, I was leaving through my fairy tale book and came across a story about a land of cats. I don't recall the name (my book is back home) but there was a picture of a cat leading a young girl into a trap door that apparently lead to cat land. I was in a hurry so I didn't read it.

Is Arietty a Miyazaki film? Since it's similar to the Borrowers, I'm wondering if there's a connection with the cat fairy tale too.

Arikana 05-22-2012 08:00 PM

I've never seen any of those Japanese movies. D:

Quiet Man Cometh 05-22-2012 08:05 PM

They're great movies. Porco Rosso is a little on the odd side. Spirited Away is really good, and was up for an Oscar I think for animated film. I believe it won. Disney has been bringing the Miyazaki films over so the dubbing is good. The show talking about how they do it is interesting. Apparently they match the mouth movements made by the animation, so the dialolgue sometimes changes to make things fit, since it takes different amounts of time so say the same things in English versus Japanese. If I recall correctly, English is faster, so it sometimes needs extra words put in.

I also consider the Miyazaki movies a good "baby step" into Anime for the people who aren't familiar with it. There are a lot of assumptions surrounding it (like how everyone is big eyed, big haired, and acts like a porn star) and it can be a pain in the rear end trying to correct what people assume about Japanese cartoons.

Fauxreal 05-22-2012 08:10 PM

Totoro! I was going to buy a little Totoro cell phone case the other day.

Reyoki 05-22-2012 08:13 PM

No, Arietty isn't a Miyazaki film. It was produced by Studio Ghibli, who works on Miyazaki films, though.

Fauxreal 05-22-2012 08:47 PM

Arietty isn't? I totally thought it was? HA!

Reyoki 05-22-2012 09:04 PM

I thought it was at first as well, but it's not. Miyazaki-sensei just trained the artists at Studio Ghibli really well. Did you know that he draws most of his own characters and storylines?

Demonskid 05-22-2012 09:14 PM

I want to see Arietty ouo it looks good.

sad its not a Miyazaki film though..

Quiet Man Cometh 05-22-2012 09:26 PM

Does it really matter if it's still a good film?

Demonskid 05-22-2012 09:29 PM

it doesn't but i love miyazaki films

father and son miyazaki make good films *w*

and according to the wiki the screen play is written by miyazaki

Quote:

Arrietty (titled The Borrower Arrietty (借りぐらしのアリエッティ Kari-gurashi no Arietti?) in Japan and The Secret World of Arrietty in North America) is a 2010 Japanese animated fantasy film directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa and produced by Studio Ghibli, based on Mary Norton's novel The Borrowers.

foxotanashi 05-22-2012 09:32 PM

I agree that it doesnt really matter as long as it is good. Its also good to get out that few directors circle.

I havnt seen that movie though.

Demonskid 05-22-2012 09:36 PM

^^, I never meant to sound like it has to be miyazaki.. i just miss seeing new works from him..

Reyoki 05-22-2012 09:38 PM

So that's why it looks like Miyazaki's work; he wrote the storyline!

foxotanashi 05-22-2012 09:47 PM
