*pops in* My bookshelf is too small. There's a big stack of books on top of it.
My dad has about a dozen five - six foot bookshelves full of books, the majority of which he has read. Some are marked with tape on the side with "Read LB 79" or something like that. 79 being yes, the year in which it was read...
That is pretty cool.
Yeah, it is kind of cool. It's too bad I hardly read at all XD. I like the idea of it, but I never actually sit down to read anything.
This is my fifth or sixth book shelving unite. I have a double and single in my room full with a foot stack of books on top; the shelves in my tv stand is full with books minus a spot for my ps2, next to my stereo is a four foot pile, and on the shelves of that are full. One full case in the living room, and boxes from sales full of books.
o_o I have an addiction to books it seems. |
I have so much manga... but my fiance's books are slowly taking over my bookcase
Yeah my dad does pretty much all of his book shopping at used book sales, on the day when you can get a brown bag full of them for $5. XD.
The sale I go to isn't even used. Surplus. Penguin company holds a sale once a year; I buy at least a box full each year. And the living room shelves are my mom's. . . I took over.
Nice xD. Yeah there are shelves in the living room that have more reference-type books, artist books (you know the ones with all the pictures in them), dictionaries encyclopedias etc... My mom's modern language version of the Bible xP.
My bookshelf used to be a VHS tape shelf. I gave some of my VHS tapes to a friend with a young nephew. He loves my old Godzilla movies! XD
All of my books are in my room or in my living room even in my kitchen. XD
The VHS tapes are in the basement; all of the DVDs are in two drawers in the entertainment center... there are maybe... 200 or so.
I've lost count of how many tapes I have. I live in Florida, so no basement for me. It would flood.
I have a basement. My grandma filled it with all her stuff. Old teaching papers, books, and such because she MIGHT need it some day. All of it is way outdated now.
Yet she insists we keep it. |
I have all my VHS in boxes in my gurage.
It's a matter of security and feeling attached and whatnot of course... not really based on practical need. Ah well...
My basement is actually livable; the shelves I mentioned form a wall around the "living area" which has a futon and a t..v and an entertainment center composed of a acouple of shelves of vinyl records and a stereo on top of it. |
Oh gosh. My grandma has four storage buildings in our backyard filled to the brim with stuff she 'might need someday' and all that jazz.
My Evil Ed's bothers crap is still here cause he said he would "need it all" some day soon.
My grandmothers have both passed on, but neither of them were major packrats. I mean, they had their quirks, but didn't have big piles of thigns they were keeping or anything.
The thing about my grandma's stuff is... it's not even her stuff. It's stuff my aunts and uncles left behind when they all moved out and started their own lives.
So she is holding on to the past. How interesting.
Yeah, and she keeps shoving the present into my room whenever I clean.
Reyoki; I know the feeling. My mom stopped cleaning because my grandma would then bring something up to fill whatever we cleaned. But now that she can't walk really, meaning she can't come up here much, mom says we will be cleaning all her shit out of the house so she can make room for our stuff. XD
Always good and lovely know that you will have some room. Really Reyo? Both my grandmothers passed already. . . .so I don't worry about I just worrk about Evil Ed's mother and his bother crap.
._. I wish my grandma wouldn't keep every little thing.
It's a away for them to not forget about the past really to most people.
Well, if they left it behind then I think it's understandable to want to keep it, even if it isn't necessary.
But my grandma doesn't keep just stuff like that. She reuses tissues. She keeps every envelope in case she needs something to write on. Even aluminum she will reuse five billion times; even when it is clearly time to throw it out. Those one time use pans for turkeys, she has been washing and reusing the same one for years now.
That... that stuff actually sounds quite environmentally concscious as long as you don't continue to BUY new ones. (or as long as she doesn't at least). Growing up in a depression will do that.
Yeah. It's just disgusting because the use once ones, are really hard to clean and I've found food from the year before still in the little nook and crannies.
That. . .sound unyummy and not good.
Yeah. . . Hence why I said it's bad that she reuses these.
They're not meant to be and thus are very difficult to clean. |
Yeah that's not good at all.
