I had a freaky dream about 1984 last night. X__X Unnghh...bad English Class.

Demonskid 03-07-2011 12:39 PM

x'D

I really should start the book I got. I just saw it.. the author is Keith Ablow..

I read the summary on the back when I got it.. something about a doctor killing people =w=

Corvus 03-07-2011 03:30 PM

Dresden Files, Something From the Nightside, Secret Histories, Night Angel. I'm such a sci-fi/noir/fantasy fan

Angel Spirit Girl 03-07-2011 04:18 PM

I like fantasy, but not horror.

I did read 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and Animal Farm just to see what they were about, though.

Corvus 03-07-2011 04:20 PM

I...read ABOUT 1984 I've been too busy to actually read it, but my teacher is freaking big brother

Madam Kira 03-07-2011 06:04 PM

Animal farm I had to read for school some time a few years ago, 1984 I think I'm going to have to read by the end of this year. >.<

Feythfull 03-07-2011 06:12 PM

I lucked out I had a lazy english teacher and never had to read any of those books. My sister didn't like animal house though it might be a good book my tastes are totally differnt then her's.

Angel Spirit Girl 03-07-2011 06:19 PM

Be glad that those books are short, though. XD You could have been assigned Jane Eyre or Great Expectations.

I like reading manga. I should do some of that on-line since I don't have enough money to buy lots of them.

Corvus 03-07-2011 07:21 PM

heh most of my cash goes to feed my book or video game habits

Angel Spirit Girl 03-07-2011 07:39 PM

Most of my cash goes to feed my avatar habit. XD

Demonskid 03-07-2011 07:41 PM

my cash feeds my manga and video game habbit

Madam Kira 03-07-2011 08:09 PM

My cash goes to getting out the house. o.o
xDD

Feythfull 03-07-2011 08:13 PM

I like Jane Ayre it's one of my favorite stories ever but I am not good at reading those old books. Someone needs to translate them into modern english. I would like to read Great expectations as well thats my favorite Dickon's story out of all the ones I have watched I have never read any. The only old enlish books I have read are Jane Ayre and Tess of the Derberville's

Demonskid 03-07-2011 08:14 PM

I need to get the Huckleberry Finn book before the edited prints are put out D:

Madam Kira 03-07-2011 08:16 PM

Oh yeah I forgot that they were replacing the Huckleberry Finn books.
Glad I already snagged myself a copy. >.<

Demonskid 03-07-2011 08:17 PM

I keep forgetting! D:

Angel Spirit Girl 03-07-2011 08:20 PM

What are they doing to Huck Finn???

Madam Kira 03-07-2011 08:21 PM

They are replacing it with an edited version more appropriate for schools.
I don't think they should, but they are. >.<

Demonskid 03-07-2011 08:26 PM

They should not edit it..

By changing it.. its like they are trying to hide and cover up historical mistakes ><

Pisces 03-07-2011 08:30 PM

I think editing the book to make it "more appropriate" is stupid. Yes, it's a bad word, etc. But the entire book is a piece of satire. It sort of like...ruins the satirical part if you change it to that much of an extent. It's like having to explain a joke and the joke isn't funny anymore. If kids can't handle the word used in context like that, then parents need to do a better job teaching them maturity.

Demonskid 03-07-2011 08:32 PM

That or the teachers need to explain the american history better... It happened.. its not going away.. and there are books written with that time setting in them. Words in that time setting are needed to make the readers feel as if they can see the image and pain!

Angel Spirit Girl 03-07-2011 08:39 PM

That loud, incessant thudding you hear is Mark Twain rolling over in his grave. -.-

Demonskid 03-07-2011 08:41 PM

I bet.. and his Bio is coming out soon too.. 100 years after his death like he wanted..

He censored that book to the best of his abilities back then! and they want to censor it more D<

Pisces 03-07-2011 08:49 PM

THere's just so much wrong with society today, and this certainly isn't helping. -__- I can just say that I'm glad that I read the book before the censorship.

Demonskid 03-07-2011 08:52 PM

I never got to read it.. my 7th grade class read Tom Saywer book instead ;-;

Corvus 03-07-2011 09:06 PM

Heh, I read the divine comedy this year (of my own accord >.>) Thought it was amazing!

btw, DANCING KIRBY <(0.0<) (>0.0)> (^0.0^)

Feythfull 03-07-2011 09:06 PM

DX they can't just edit a book! thats evil!

Madam Kira 03-07-2011 09:07 PM

xDD Dancing Kirby!

Demonskid 03-07-2011 09:07 PM

Mark Twain's family should totally sue D<

Corvus 03-07-2011 09:09 PM

Raise the roof kirby, raise the roof indeed. As to the current conversation, Political Correctness is striking school libraries everywhere like the plague, we simply must endure it my fellow bibliophiles

Demonskid 03-07-2011 09:12 PM

._. It's not right.

Ana 03-07-2011 11:09 PM

Hey guys ^^ I finally bought The Last Unicorn today <3 I adore the movie, but have never read the book. I have one other book to finish first, but I can't wait to start it. I just hope I don't blubber like a baby at the end of it, like I do with the movie, lol.

Madam Kira 03-08-2011 12:18 AM

The Last Unicorn?? o.o
...Is it really about a Unicorn?
Or is it's title mislead? >.<

Funkduder 03-08-2011 12:27 AM

Hey, Kira! We're in the no shoes club.

Ana 03-08-2011 12:28 AM

Nope, it's exactly what it sounds like. ^^ A unicorn discovers she's the last unicorn left in the world and sets out to find out what happened to rest. It's a beautiful animated movie and, I'm sure, a even more beautiful book. I've read excerpts and what I've read is beautifully written. I've been wanting to read it for years.

Madam Kira 03-08-2011 12:30 AM

Funk - Yes! No shoes is awesome! I think just about all my avis on the websites I'm on go mostly barefoot. xDD

Ana - Awe! That sounds adorable! I will have to put that on the list of things for me to read.

Ana 03-08-2011 12:36 AM

You should. ^^ It's not a cutesy kids book though. It's more like a fairy tale. <3

Saiyouri 03-08-2011 12:40 AM

❧ ❤ ✸ ❤ ❖ ✬ ❖ ❃ ❖ ✬ ❖ ❤ ✸ ❤ ❧

Ana you have to let me know how the book is when you finish it. I'm obsessed with unicorns and that is a book I wanted to get.
