It's just a definition. The word "score" is derived from the practice of creating tally marks to keep track of how many animals went through a gate; they'd slash through it every 20th animal, sort of how we slash every 5 nowadays. So we're left with a word meaning "accumulated points", as well as meaning "cut a shallow mark", as well as meaning "twenty". |
