What the heck is 'three score' supposed to mean? Confused the crap out of me and I had to look at previous post to figure out what number you meant. @_@

Coda 01-22-2013 02:11 AM

A score is twenty. "Four score and seven years ago" = 87 years.

62.

Arikana 01-22-2013 02:18 AM

Sixty.

I still don't get it. D: How is a score equivalent to twenty. o_o

Alpha 01-22-2013 02:33 AM

Sixty-four

I don't know why.....one of those history things that would be interesting to find out.

Coda 01-22-2013 03:00 PM

68.

It's just a definition. The word "score" is derived from the practice of creating tally marks to keep track of how many animals went through a gate; they'd slash through it every 20th animal, sort of how we slash every 5 nowadays. So we're left with a word meaning "accumulated points", as well as meaning "cut a shallow mark", as well as meaning "twenty".

Arikana 01-22-2013 03:15 PM

Sixty-six.

Oh, I see. :o
That actually sounds quite interesting, albeit old people scoring tallies at every twenty. I like five a lot more. P:
