This whole month has been nearly non-stop stress...

I need a break for myself.

Unfortunately, I am broke... like... literally. Broke. I have *exactly* $0 to my name right now.

I'm treating myself next month. I want another facial piercing.
Or another plushie.

I might get both.

Biomecha 10-26-2019 10:16 PM

Are plushie piercings a thing? I remember the Piercing Mildred game from ancient internet history.

Is anyone familiar with hake roe? I almost got some canned version but google wasn't helping at that moment. Is it like a much larger fish egg? It doesn't look like the typical translucent red toned ball shaped eggs.

Kory 10-27-2019 12:08 AM

Aren't Grottan Gelflings used to hearing much worser things? This is the point in your story where your clan joins the resistance to fight for your rights.

(also run a virus scan on your computer)

Stabbsworth 10-27-2019 11:46 AM

run either windows defender / windows security essentials or malwarebytes. i think Malwarebytes has fixed that memory leak issue from a while back.

NGC 2818 is a planetary nebula located in the southern constellation Pyxis. It consists largely of glowing gases from the star's outer layers ejected during the final stages of its life when it had run out of the fuel necessary to sustain its core fusion processes.

I used to this as my desktop background. So very pretty! (Even though it's also terrifying when you think about what it actually is.)

I'm a sensitive ;-;
I just noticed how similar the story of the Gelflings is with the narrative of ethnic/religious and LGBT minorities are with the way the world is going now.

I have a malware scanner, it says it's expired.... but it still scans? So I dunno!

Oof! My mom can talk a long time about and literally say nothing!
It wouldn't upset me as much as it does if she did the same for me. Oftentimes, I'll sit and listen to her talk about nothing for a good 30 minutes to an hour... But when *I* want to talk, she's always like, "Ava, nobody has time for this."

MonBon 10-28-2019 08:10 PM

I need to sing to keep me sane but I'm in the same room as my roommate and he's on a call so i can't sing Dx

Stabbsworth 10-29-2019 10:22 AM

i have no idea why i don't feel as hungry as i should? like, it never starts from waking up (unless i wake up earlier than my usual) and it takes a few hours to actually kick in????

>u> Feel like there's way too much talking and not enough listening going on in the world alone. <-< And when you do the listening, you're made a personal therapist somehow..

Weird Shout: I had a dream recently about watching an old 70's cartoon that was Japanese produced and aired in English in America. It was about a young man and his three friends and their dog, going on adventures around the world and exploring places while helping with disappearances of pets and people. And the main character's name was Casie. The cartoon was called Overall Casie. Because o-o I woke up with a very strong feeling that the cartoon exists and I've seen it sometime before, on Boomerang, a long time ago when I used to watch old cartoons at my grandma's house. But when I looked it up..I couldn't find any evidence that it exists at all. >.> I stood up the rest of the night, all weirded out...apparently I either manufactured this cartoon from the past in my mind, or I visited an alternate dimension in my sleep...

Weirder Shout: My grandma told me this morning that when she came to the front room early in the morning before sunrise, as she usually does, she sat in her chair by the fireplace, as she usually does,
and she told me that she saw some letters on the fireplace wall, but couldn't make out what they said without her glasses...that wall is smooth with no cracks or crevices or blemishes anywhere. 8/ I don't see how an illusion of lettering could be made on it...there's no pencil lines, no discoloration, no way a shadow could bend, nothing! o_o I hope she's not seein' things I can't.

Idk I'm usually not hungry immediately in the mornings either. It takes at least 3 hours

Stabbsworth 10-29-2019 06:06 PM

that's a mood, bon.

Coda 10-29-2019 06:58 PM

Honestly, it's not unusual to wake up not-hungry at all. It's only been since the Industrial Revolution that the idea of "breakfast" as a specific meal was considered normal. It was intentionally pushed as a health measure to make sure that factory laborers got enough calories in a world of increasingly scheduled time -- you can't just say "oh, I'll eat when I'm hungry" when you're expected to be working your station from 8 to 12. For most of human history, people would get up and start working right away (gotta milk the cows!) and only eat once they'd worked up an appetite.

Stabbsworth 10-29-2019 07:04 PM

hm.

it would be nice if we didn't live in a capitalist hellscape where we're expected to work eight hours a day for ends meet, y'know?

Coda 10-29-2019 07:07 PM

I have no idea what you're talking about. Only working eight hours a day, indoors with air conditioning, is a paradise by comparison to the expectations of pre-Industrial Revolution agrarian life.

Gallagher 10-29-2019 07:36 PM

air conditioning yes, hours no. preindustrial work day was more spread out through the day, but only really amounted to about the same 8 hours as we have now. now n days has a much higher productivity expectation than back in olden times, too.

if we're also considering all of the things people made in their free time, there might be an argument to be made. but let's be real, people now n days like to make things to use for themselves just as much, even with alternatives fully available to them.

and let's not even dig into the difference in holidays. i don't wanna go back to olden times or anything, but goodness, they knew a thing or two about holiday time off.

Stabbsworth 10-29-2019 07:58 PM

it'd probably be a benefit if we split up hours and such, y'know? i.e: doing work in two four hour blocks with a four hour break or something.

Den 10-29-2019 08:44 PM

that'd be nice, but capitalism.

KittyBeary 10-29-2019 09:25 PM

It amounted to about the same 8 hours if you averaged it out through the year, but that's because there wasn't nearly as much work during the summer and winter compared to planting season and harvest season. Long days during harvest season aren't uncommon because you had to get the crops collected in the fairly narrow window between it getting ripe and it getting destroyed by rain, wind, or frost. They also had children helping out -- if they were big enough to carry stuff, they were big enough to help.

So yes, I would certainly say that having a predictable schedule with a steady routine, being able to provide for yourself and your family by doing something other than manual labor, is an all around better deal.

Gallagher 10-29-2019 10:01 PM

i was not touching on the type of work or quality of life overall for a reason. i wasn't even arguing that things then were better. i was only talking about hours, and as someone that does better with seasons of extra work vs a constant daily grind, i think that there are things to examine in how we expect people to work by default. forced expectations of what it is to be a working individual perpetuated hard by our capitalist systems do come with serious problems, and the ratio of hours worked, productivity expected, time off allowed, etc are all things that should be looked at critically.

i'm not going off on some anti-capitalist rant here, because it most certainly has benefits that a shit ton of people don't consider, but we got fokkin PROBLEMS with how things are and not necessarily having to do manual labor is not enough to account for the many, many other difficulties people can have in trying to maintain the oh so lovely 8 hour work day

Me @ the news: This is bullsh*t. >:C It's Fall, not Hell-Summer! This has to stop! I'm blaming humanity. *lives on a hill* >8c That sh*t better not spread across the valley!

MonBon 10-29-2019 10:49 PM

Honestly the holiday situation isn't solely a "nowadays" problem. I work with branches of my company in other nations, and they get 2-3 times as many holidays as we do :')

littl3chocobo 10-30-2019 03:10 AM

there is also something to be said about the expectations of actual rest in-between tasks. it was taken for granted that unless you were in straights you could indeed take breaks as needed. in the last few decades it's become a sign of a weak mind and body if you are not working during your breaks as well, non-restful hobbies and curricular activities eat up a lot of time that used to be spent in a low-productivity low-energy state.

Please, the Californian “fall” is just Second Summer.

Stabbsworth 10-30-2019 12:11 PM

oh cool my fucking forum title changed
time to go feral over that
it's a dick joke isn't it.

-- edit: also, the fact that people from religions other than christianity don't get holidays for their holy days should be considered and we should do our best to accommodate them.

Coda 10-30-2019 01:55 PM

No, it's not a dick joke. If that was the intent, we would have been more obvious with it. It's just the kind of emphasis where you stress each syllable independently, sort of like using the clap emoji.

We don't have fall or spring anymore. :c It's either on fire, or it's not. The winds are all anyone's talking about. T-T Allergies. Wind. Flu Shots. and Christmas already. Jeezus.

Stabbsworth 10-30-2019 03:00 PM

oh, that's valid, coda.

Biomecha 10-30-2019 07:32 PM

Why are there so many chiropractors using their Dr. status to give nutritional advice and sell nutritional products?

(I don't need an actual explanation, the reason is already understood.)

littl3chocobo 10-30-2019 07:35 PM

it's amazing what you can do when you need money more than you need dignity x''D

Blaaaaaaargh, yes, this upsets me so much. When I was growing up, chiropractors were kind of like massage therapists that specialized in back pain.

Every time I've tried to find a chiropractor in the last seven years, on the other hand, every last one of them was promoting some sort of pseudoscientific woo.

I have to wonder if perhaps the trend towards alternative medicine drove the good chiropractors to start calling themselves massage therapists instead...

I think today is "National Things Going Wrong Day"

MonBon 10-30-2019 10:20 PM
