I decided to make my alien race mostly dominated by the female gender, it's a matriarchy and the women are in charge rofl. They are the oldest and wisest of all of the Ardonians. Also the wiser and older an Ardonian is the more respected they are because with time they have experience and experience means knowledge. xD |
matriarchys are good, what is the defining physical atribute that contributes to this?

Is isn't anything physical, it's because of the way they grew to respect their women and the women grew more powerful than the men. I don't know how to explain it. xD They're pretty much born knowing that the women are to not be mistreated and that they are the most fragile asset to their race. Also it takes a lot to attract a female mate and for her to accept a male as her mate. Ardonians mate for life, once they find a mate they remain with them until they die and even after they die they do not find another mate ( remarry ) they remain alone. So the females are very picky creatures. xD |
hm that is interesting i suppose but that means you lose out on explaining /how/ they acquired a matriarchy

Yeah I'm trying to think of how the females came into being the most powerful. Maybe they are more intimidating, more harsh and threatening than the males are. I could make the males very calm, humble... I could adjust their physical features to make them more scary. xD |
it is sweetie's call, the only thing it does is give you more background fodder for your story and make them a little more rounded. if you never talk about the culture it will not be nessisary

I'm making them have different physical features already so... - shrugs - I made their feet different, length of their legs and arms, their chest is different but they do not have breasts. They have more 'curves' I guess you would call them, they have a different shape to them. They are shorter than the males but that doesn't mean they are lesser than that. I could make them make up for their height difference with something else. xD |

well two things stand out for me, birds and hyenas, you could make it sexual, female birds of some breeds of paradise mate only with males who have extravagant displays(to show their health) and hyenas are dysmorphic in a way that makes copulation impossible without consent

Oh no. D< The males aren't weak at all! The females are just more dominate among their race. Since the females are more dominate a majority of the world's leaders are female, but some are male just some though. xD Key word there. A majority of Ardonians involved with politics are female, the females also teach their young and are heavily involved in medicine and medical treatments, surgeries, etc. They have advanced their races' medical technology buy thousands of years LOL. Well another reason for that is because the Ardonians are all scientific and absolutely not religious. So religion never held them back from exploring their world and themselves and that helped further their technology. |
Oh yeah, that's what I was getting at. If the female isn't interested the males can not force them into a mating ritual. Maybe I could make the males have feather. xD They could pop out from their head, elbows and the back of their knees or something. But that's just an idea. |

Y'know pretty much if religion never held back us we would be so advanced by now but waaay back then a bunch of crazy religious people ( and they're not all like that I know but back then religion was super popular and crazy ) burned hundreds of books about science. And they thought that science was the work of the devil and was a sin or some crazy shit so. All that knowledge is forever lost. |

actually there are theologians that have embraced science and there is a religious justification for it. My friends mother wrote her entire senior thesis on the theory of wave lengths and religion. There was also how the whole "I think there for a I am" Is both scientific and religious but that one she would have to explain to you. Science tends to go over my head. Science and math really.

XD I think the best is when my friend told me to think of jesus as superman, he is every where at once. I told her I get crept out by the thought of a dead guy watching me all the time and I wondered how he came through the walls. She said think of him as superman.
