OnO it would ruin the papers.

good thing I know 土 (do) / earth thanks to the days of the week thing

but I was still practicing 光 (hikari) / light >x<

those are kanji a day papers ouo

Fauxreal 09-05-2012 12:17 PM

Dang - I should do that on my wall. Minus the kitty scratches.

Demonskid 09-05-2012 01:15 PM

xD the cat is the only thing really holding me back. ouo thanks to these I'm doing pretty good memorizing them.. that and the white bored that is supposed to be where the torn paper is xD the white boards sticky stuff doesn't stick so i just gave up and its on the floor ._.,

Fauxreal 09-05-2012 02:12 PM

I just haven't found the inspiration. And for some I'm crazy busy but still have nothing to do. Wacky.

Demonskid 09-09-2012 01:24 PM

you know..

boku is supposed to be a boy only term for I.. girls who use it are often kinda frowned upon yet.. I hear many female sings use it a lot more then males oxo

Coda 09-09-2012 10:39 PM

I had noticed that too, but I found out that "boku" is only masculine in speech. It's also used poetically more generally.

Demonskid 09-10-2012 09:36 AM

I prefer using Boku more then atashi but.. everyone always yells at me ;n;

Coda 09-10-2012 10:36 AM

In speech that makes you look like a MAJOR tomboy -- almost butch. It's sort of rebellious.

Demonskid 09-10-2012 10:38 AM

well I am a tomboy x'D

Coda 09-10-2012 02:34 PM

But are you a rebellious, stick-it-to-the-man, defy-society kind of tomboy? Or just one that doesn't care so much about being girly?

Demonskid 09-10-2012 02:45 PM

everyone would claim i'm rebelious..

I like cute things like kitties and fluffy.. i don't like dresses or care much for accessories or make up *unless the accessories have skulls or spikes <3*

I hate it when people tell me to 'not be me' because so and so doesn't like that.

my hairstyle and eyebrow peircing my family considers rebelious.. me .. I just like it this way ._., screw their thoughts on a eyebrow ring and emo'ish spiked hair..

whitexsuicide 09-10-2012 11:06 PM

I don't think that would make you rebellious.... I think if you were doing it to piss them off and only for that, then you would be rebellious.

and there is an app out there that will quiz you on your kanji. I don't think you would have a touch phone, but it is out there.... my boyfriend has it, it's nice.

Coda 09-11-2012 12:38 AM

Doing it just to intentionally be different from the norm would count, regardless of whether or not the intent is to defy any individual person.

whitexsuicide 09-11-2012 12:46 AM

really? even if you just like the way it looks no matter whom might think it's weird

Demonskid 09-11-2012 09:31 AM

like the way it sounds since words have no looks :3

I like boku cause it sounds cooler then 'atashi' =w=,

Coda 09-11-2012 12:52 PM

Go ahead and use it. Just be aware you're flaunting societal norms and you'll be lumped into the same group of people who ride skateboards down the rails at subway stations.

whitexsuicide 09-11-2012 12:56 PM

First i thought it was a typo but isn't Watashi?

Coda 09-11-2012 10:59 PM

"Watashi" is the "proper" way of saying it. Many girls use "atashi" as feminine, informal slang.

I love skateboards i just can't ride them.. I'd rather learn the rollerblade tricks like that. :3

Watashi - proper/formal
atashi - feminine
boku - boyish
ore - manry xD

are there more then this?

Coda 09-12-2012 01:03 PM

There's "watakushi" which is EXTREMELY formal -- this is what you use when you say "I, <insert name here>, do solemnly swear" kind of statements. Gender-neutral.

There's "washi" that's getting rather old-fashioned (the stereotype is that only elderly men use it).

There's "ware" which is almost as formal as "watakushi" and largely a matter of literary style although you'll occasionally come across someone who uses it in speech. Technically available to either gender, but more common in men when it comes to media (as the level of formality it would imply tends to result in "watakushi" among shrine-maiden-type women).

There's "waga" and its derivatives that are very old-fashioned; these days they're only used when making big speeches.

There's "atai" which is further contracted from "atashi", and therefore even more informal. Typically feminine.

There's a whole slew of various dialectical slang that I won't enumerate, as well as a ton of archaically old-fashioned ones that are pretty much exclusive to period-style literature in current use.

Demonskid 09-12-2012 01:10 PM

so many @-@... i'll stick with boku xD

Coda 09-12-2012 04:00 PM

Yeah, there have been some linguists who argue that they shouldn't even be called pronouns because they don't work the same way as they do in western languages. They carry a lot more information (the studies call it "semantics") than western-language pronouns and don't get used nearly as often.

As long as you remember to switch to "watashi" when you need to be polite, you'll be fine.

Demonskid 09-12-2012 04:03 PM

of course ^_^ always be polite to people you are unfamilar with and meet for the first time. be casual with friends :3

meaning with you I can use boku, with new people who enter the thread i use watashi ^-^

Trakadon 09-17-2012 11:07 PM

I don't know if you guys care for this tid-bit of information but Konpeito is made by putting a piece of rice into a turning pot and covered layer by layer of sugar for five days, and on that fifth day that is when it gets it's little bumps. Also you can freeze onigiri.

Demonskid 10-09-2012 09:26 PM

i don't even know what that is. I'll google it tomorrow ouo but if it looks tasty i'll try to make it

whitexsuicide 10-09-2012 10:22 PM

Mika 10-09-2012 11:56 PM
