just finished book #29! now i'm onto #30, with Journey to the Center of the Earth, by Jules Verne. i haven't read this one before, but i somewhat remember seeing commercials for the Brendan Fraser movie not all that long ago (imdb says 2008... well that feels like 'not all that long ago'!)
and i have another book (#31) waiting for me at the library that i have until next wednesday to get. heee. i may very well get to my goal of 'more than i read last year' this year! (last year i read 32 books.) |
Two chapter is good! I read one chapter today of the book Lily Dale.
|
4 chapters! A whole 4 chapters! I'm on a roll!
|
slowly working my way through my current book. Can only get a few pages in between job hunting.
|
OMG! Read 70 pages of LIly Dale and gave up! That is the third book in a row, that I have not been able to even really start. I am on a bad roll!!!
|
You certainly are! I hate abandoning books but I guess it's worth it if it's no fun. I've abandoned movies before.
|
Half way through my current book. It's a good read when my mind won't shut down and i cant sleep. Hope every one is enjoying their summer !!
|
Quiet: I give a book 50 pages! (obviously sometimes more. If I don't care about the characters or to know what happens in the end, then it really is no point continuing. I abandon movies all the time. I started watching Dune (an old movie from the 80's) and I gave up after 15 minutes. It was so dopey.
I am currently reading The Lost Child and up to almost 100, this one I like and will finish. |
I've never seen the old 80s film but I did watch the mini-series. Dune is on my list for a books that's been on my "to be read list" for way too long. I'm interested in the setting though, and it has it's own pile of culture fodder.

Dune! i love Dune.
*ahem* uhm. i'll be getting 'Navigators of Dune' hopefully at the end of the month when it's out in paperback. |
I don't plan to branch into the posthumous books, or even the series itself beyond the first, really, but we'll see what happens when I get there.
Finished the short book! Now back to the medium and long books. I should work on Death by Video Game so I can loan it to my sister. I think she'd be fascinated by it. |
personally, i've enjoyed all the Dune books... but your mileage will vary, so whatever you do read, it's all good.
also, i finished Journey to the Center of the Earth, which is book #30 for the year, and now i'm reading Dragonsworn - it's another Dark-Hunter novel by Sherrilyn Kenyon. i love her stuff, even if it's all the same formula. XD |
I have started another book but haven't finished any!
8D Lol might have to read some tomorrow if I have time. Have a lot of craft projects I want to work on and try to finish. And it's my only day off again. XP |
@Trystan: I tried watching Dune (the movie from the 80's) I watched 15 minutes, it was so awful. I assume the book is better?
|
well, a few things here:
1- there's always more in the book than the movie, and it's difficult to craft a movie as well as the book, so you could argue the book is better. 2- i like everything i watch AND read. so: i liked the book. the movie was.... weirdly done, but that's David Lynch for you. there were a few good things about the movie (and one definitely not good - it wasn't even in the book, so....) - but one of the good things was it served as a primer for the world of Dune, the Navigators, the feud between the two families.... and how to pronounce things like Harkonnen (but then the miniseries went and said it differently... LOL) if someone wants to read the book, but they know nothing about it, i'll recommend the Lynch movie as a primer, and also for a cast of characters in the book as well. so.... the book is better overall, but there are good things about the Lynch movie too. does that make sense? |
i think a summer heat wave is coming to where i live >c< I am not looking forward to job hunting now >C<
