Sadrain 01-14-2011 04:44 PM

M e w 01-14-2011 04:44 PM

You know it bro. ;U

Mal Kapwn 01-14-2011 06:27 PM

Nobody, Rainy XD It just reminded me of the Mary Poppins scene. :3

The local library is so tiny, all the scfi/fantasy fits on one small shelf. It seems like they don't get entires series either -- just a couple from the middle/end of several series. What are your local libraries like?

M e w 01-14-2011 10:45 PM

I don't go to the public libraries in my city actually. xD;;
Unfortunately we owe money from a long time ago... so we don't go. >.<
It's fine though, if I want to check out a book and don't have money to buy it I can just go to my school library.
They have a good selection of books, plenty of fiction. ^^

Mal Kapwn 01-15-2011 03:58 AM

Eh, I know how that goes. The replacement fee for an audiobook at a library about an hour from where I live is $70 -- O.O! Crazy. We didn't have to pay it because we didn't lose the audiobook, but now we don't check audiobooks out at that library XD

johnny 01-15-2011 12:10 PM

I'm pretty sure most libraries don't really hold a person responsible if a book's been out for a certain amount of years. You'd have to look into it for your local library, but for mine, my friend had a book checked out for something like ten years because she'd lost it, and she was afraid to go back. Then she went back just to check what she owed and they'd completely wiped their records of anyone who hadn't checked out a book in x amount of years.

But then again, my library system makes you renew your card every year, so they're very strict about clearing the system of unused accounts.

M e w 01-15-2011 12:16 PM

I think the books we had out were things I used for a science project... back in like elementary school or 6th grade or something. xD;;

Mal Kapwn 01-15-2011 02:58 PM

My old library was like that, Johnny. It was also much bigger than most other libraries I've been to XD Since it's been so long, why not go back and check, Mew?

M e w 01-15-2011 03:00 PM

- shrugs -
I would like to get a library card but it's not really worth it right now. ^^;
Maybe when we're not so broke, just in case there is still money we owe.

johnny 01-15-2011 05:21 PM

The library system in my city is huge.

There are four "main" libraries (only one is actually called the Main Library, though) - ones that are open every day of the week, have over 10,000 books, etc. - and 17 other, smaller library branches. And they have a system set up so that you can order from one branch building to a building closer to you, and you can get them to buy books they don't have, etc.

My city might be pretty awful in terms of education, crime, and entertainment, but we've got an excellent library system. xD

Sadrain 01-18-2011 04:02 PM

We haven't really had such situation with losing books or anything like that. ^^;

Mal Kapwn 01-18-2011 04:52 PM

Fffff, I want a big library system like that!

My books going missing usually has sibling sneakery involved. /not sure sneakery is a word.

johnny 01-19-2011 01:13 PM

Move to Jacksonville, Florida!

I could use a Library Buddy.

None of my friends really read. ]:

At least, none that I speak to on a regular basis.

Mal Kapwn 01-19-2011 08:07 PM

B'aw that would be awesome! I could (and have) spend hours in a library. The big library that I miss didn't have a book checkout limit and sometimes I would end up with a cart full XD I used to devour books. I live in Kansas, though. Bleh XD

M e w 01-20-2011 06:07 PM

I've been neglecting this thread. >:
Although... I haven't really posted on Tris at all this week. ^^;;

Anyways, just finished a book last night, The Maze Runner. It was quite good, although some things were predictable in the end.
The first book I finished on my Nook, and I plan on buying the sequel to it once I can. :]

Angel Spirit Girl 01-20-2011 06:21 PM

Hello. ^.^

I love reading fantasy novels.

I was going to read Lirel by Nix, but can not find my copy.

Mal Kapwn 01-21-2011 03:06 PM

Is it hard to read the Nook in sunlight, Mew?

Have you read the first book in the series, Angel?

Angel Spirit Girl 01-21-2011 05:35 PM

Yes. ^u^ I have read Sabriel a good while ago and enjoyed it very much.

M e w 01-21-2011 10:01 PM

I haven't actually gone outside to read it but it shouldn't be. :O
Since it has that e-ink screen it's supposed to be readable in sunlight.

Angel Spirit Girl 01-27-2011 05:45 PM

Sounds interesting, but I am cautious about readers since they are not ink and paper.

Mal Kapwn 01-27-2011 06:09 PM

I think it would be cool to have one, but I dunno how much I'd use it. I love the smell/feel of a book XD

Angel Spirit Girl 01-27-2011 06:54 PM

Me, too! I like paper and pages and ink and alphabets as well as words and stories and characters.

M e w 01-28-2011 08:49 PM

Ya I still prefer a real book to one on my Nook, so if I really want the book then I'm gonna buy the actual thing. But it's easy to read on the Nook, doesn't hurt your eyes or anything. ^^
The books are also cheaper when you buy them for it so that's another reason. xD;

Anyways, I just finished a book, Behemoth by Scott Westerfield, and I loved it just like the first one in the series. ^^

Angel Spirit Girl 01-30-2011 02:49 PM

That is good to know that the Nook is easy on the eyes. ^^

M e w 02-04-2011 01:59 PM

- pokes thread -
Anyone reading anything good? D:

Mal Kapwn 02-04-2011 06:01 PM

I'm sort of working on Daughter of Prophecy still. The terms are starting to annoy me -- lots of fantasy writers will substitute something along the lines of "an hourglass's turn" or something for the word "hour," to sound more authentic, I suppose. That doesn't bother me. When they do that but they also still say things like "Adam's apple," it bothers me. If you're going to be picky about the word "hour," you shouldn't use the term "Adam's apple."

/rant XD

M e w 02-04-2011 06:14 PM

xDD
Besides those things how are you enjoying it?

I'm thinking about getting Pride & Prejudice & Zombies but I'm not sure. xD
Should I read the original story before I pick that one up? :O

Mal Kapwn 02-04-2011 06:18 PM

Oh, besides that it's okay. Pretty cliche XD

Hmm, I would probably read the original first XD To appreciate all the changes. It's very hard to follow though XD

M e w 02-04-2011 06:27 PM

How much more of it do you have to read? :O

Haha ya I was thinking that. xD;;
Unfortunately I'm not really into those sorts of books... but with zombies... I could get into that. xD <3
I have it on my Nook cause I got it for free so I guess I'll just read it sometime, then get the edited version later. :O

Mal Kapwn 02-04-2011 06:53 PM

. . . >.> Most of it XD

You could also watch the movie first. The one with Keira Knightley is REALLY awesome. Yay for free literature!

M e w 02-04-2011 07:28 PM

xD;;
Have fun with that.

I might if I'm not lazy lol.

Angel Spirit Girl 02-04-2011 10:01 PM

I should get around to reading The Pretties.
