:D My bro is a Huffleypuffley! And a proud one too. xD We have one of each in our family too. My mum tho is leaning between Slytherin and Gryffindor while my dad and I are undeniably Slytherin and Ravenclaw. <x] My bro kept getting all four houses, so he just decided on the one house no one was just to even it all out. x'D haha!
But he is a soft and precious boy with friends, family, food and fortune so, his house is perfect for him. <x3 Dad and mum only know what they've seen in the Harry Potter movies, with my dad kind of liking the Death Eater scene. ^~^; Aaand my mum just wants "the good guys" to win. x] Meanwhile I'm in the corner huddled up and looking up elements in my Dream book from that weird dream I had the other night to determine it's meaning...with a *cough* crow feather as a bookmark. >u>; <3 Aaaah I forgot about Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. Mustn't forget those. :[ Feel like, no kid knows what it means anymore to browse a single store with shelves and shelves of video cassettes and dvds and pick up some movie snacks while choosing a few to rent..and watching the latest trailers for upcoming movies on screens around the corners of the store. :D Ah-but I got off track. o-o; Right! Fruits Basket! <x'} Ooops. I totally forgot to start reading. THIS IS A READING CHALLENGE is it not?? Shame on me, hehe. |
oh yeah, Blockbuster. =)
also, i have Harry Potter on my reread list! =) |
Almost every time I've taken a sorting quiz I've been Ravenclaw. Only once did it give me a different result. Slytherin
|
Just got through with reading the first omnibus collection volume of Fruits Basket. It was..nnnot what I was really expecting. o-o ! But in a good way! Sorta,..
I remember my friends in high school reading and watching it and everything but I never got into it since I had studies and other stuff I was interested in. >->; I was really sunny and naïve back then, and the main character kind of reminded me of how I was, but without the hardships she went through and everything...I didn't go through my hardships until well in the middle of junior year, when my friends weren't there to see me everyday anymore, and the only support I got were from books and from myself, even though I was feeding delusions. So I'm glad I read it. <:] I was honestly expecting more cliched comical/romance tropes than anything else, so it was a surprise to see there's more drama and in-depth character involved beneath the surface. I'll continue with the second volume tomorrow likely...if there isn't too much to do. >.>; Hooooouhh, so much to doooo.. |
I just finished reading my first novel of the year. It is Tracing the Shadow by Sara Ash. The novel was a very good fantasy novel with lots of world building and character motivation.
|
I think I'm majority Hufflepuff but I do seem to swap houses depending on my mood. Often I find myself split between two answers for a quiz question or two, and I've redone quizzes with both answers. I think I was either Ravenclaw or Griffindor depending on which way I went on which question. Too much in my head, maybe, or I'm not decisive enough.
I keep swapping books. Right now I'm in the middle of 5 books. Anyone else find that if they buy a really good book rather than get it from the library, they suddenly stop (or slow down) reading pace? |
i read at a slow pace lately because i'm also working on a crochet project or two at the same time =)
|
I can take a long time to finish a book because I read almost exclusively on break at work. That means I read only a few pages a day.
|
i know about that as well, Angel. i read in the mornings and sometimes at lunch at my mon-thurs desk job. then i read at whatever meal i eat either before or after my fri-sun job - i only work a few hours, so i don't get a meal break (i do get a 15 minute bread if i so choose).... so when i work 9-1, i just have lunch after, and read then too. =)

Just finished vol 2 Omnibus of Fruits Basket. o-o
I know there's more. I must read the rest. ;-; Even though it's making me have the feels and regret not having read it in my high school years! >x'{ Just to open my doey doe eyes to how stupid I was being! Guhh! I don't know which of the characters I feel I'm most like currently. /:[ Maybe Shigure, because I like to write whenever I want, don't intervene much and not to mention same zodiac animal, buuut I'm not really that chill and not suspiciously interested in young high school girls. x] So far, the zodiac possessed members of the Sohma family haven't all been introduced or revealed. Only Shigure/Dog, Hatsuharu/Ox, Momji/Rabbit, Hatori/Dragon, Kagura/Boar, Ayame/Snake and of course Kyo/Cat and Yuki/Rat. :/ Not sure which one Akito might be, or if he's even possessed by a zodiac animal at all. :c Now I have to wait until I can get my hands on the third volume...as well as distract myself with video games and internet videos. >n> |
I finally decided to just drop off the wad of books I had at the library I happen to be near so that they can make their way home. I kept two. I hate renewing stuff when I'm not reading it, and the pile was bothering me. I need some more suggestions for realistic fiction reading for kids.
Finished "Confessions of an Imaginary Friend" and I'm not sure what to think about it as I almost put it down after the first half because it felt kind of empty, but the other half was really good. I think I may need to be a kid to appreciate the first half more, though now I'm curious about what a kid will think of the latter half. |
Have you read the Ramona Quimbly and Annastasia Kruputnick series? They are both very good. What about The Little House books as well? Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great was pretty good. The Egypt Game was one I enjoyed. However, my passion is actually fantasy novels.
|
i remember reading some of the Ramona Quimby books, in fact, i still have Ramona the Brave. also read Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great..... and lots of other Judy Blume books as well.
i also finished High Heat today, and i'm starting in on my reread list again, with the Hobbit now! |
I used to read a lot of Roald Dahl books when I was a kid. :] I also was partial to the Time Warp Trio series by Jon Scieszka, The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids by Marcia T. Jones and Debbie Dadey, and I think I remember reading some Ramona Quimby, Frizby the Dog, Magic Treehouse and Junie B. Jones. XD But my all-time favorite I enjoyed over and over was Sideways stories from Wayside school.
Haaah, old times old times. <x} Haven't read anything else lately. :/ I'll try to find something on my list for tomorrow. I'll likely try getting back to Dorian Grey tho. >.>; |
I remember Wayside stuff!
Maintenance ate my post last night. I know of Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume and such, those have all been reprinted again. I'm trying to find stuff that less on the radar, which means reading some new things, though I have put some classic material on the list so far. Being a fantasy reader myself though, most of what I know falls into that category, so I might classify some light fantasy as realistic if it's close enough. I have Fish in a Tree still in my to-read pile. I'll dig that out, though it means tracking down which book it is as I wrapped my to-read last Christmas. Didn't have this assignment at the time. Korman seems to be a decent author to check out for kids. I've only read the one book, Ungifted, so far. |
I like Ronald Dahl books, too. Gordon Kormam looks like a good author, too.
I have sooooo many books laying around my house waiting for me to read them. X.X |
I just remembered Bunnicula was a thing! <x'D I never got to read much of it as a kid, but I remember my friends in my class getting into it. Wish I could have read it! I might've liked it a lot!http://d20eq91zdmkqd.cloudfront.net/...0812431124.jpg |
nothing wrong with reading it now, I ought to as well ;)
|
I saw a cartoon special based on the Bunicula book when I was a teenager or so. It was a cute episode, but when I read the book later on I was disappointed. The book is for quite young readers - like elementary school.
Ratha's Creature is a book that had a cartoon special made of it that is much more young adult than early chapter book. The characters in that series are saber toothed cats. I liked them a lot. |
There are a couple Bunnicula books. I've never checked them out though.
So a book talk on a picture book isn't going to work well so out goes my first idea and I'm going to do a talk on Confessions of an Imaginary Friend and maybe Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Need a third. The more I think about it, the more I think Confessions was actually a really good book. I'll have to read it again some time. Finished The Prince and the Dressmaker as well. Also a very good book, but too high in age for my assignments so far. Story time at a daycare next week, if scheduling works out. I have a group now, so I only need to entertain the kids for 10 minutes instead of half an hour. Much less effort. Oh, and just to say for googling and such, it actually is "Roald" Dahl. That's not a typo. |
Oh! Thanks! Now that I think about it, I do remember the odd bit of pronunciation his name had. Also, I had an uncle named Ronald - that we called Ron. That might have been where my mix-up started. XD
Have fun at your story time. |
Omg! <xD Hahaha, all my teachers called him Ronald Dahl! I thought it was Ronald for the longest time too, until I looked him up for book reports and stuff.
|
So abandoning Pippi. Stories are cute but so far mostly the same. I have other stuff to get to, especially since I went and bought more stuff at the bookstore because I could. I'm considering starting a little free library locally.
Reading Coraline now. I like the little illustrations. |
There are some interesting Coraline world theory youtubes that I have seen.
I finished the book I was reading - Mystic by J. Denzel - and now have to pick a new one to read on break at work. |
re-read the Circle by Dave Eggers. creepy notGoogle tech company that has its tendrils everywhere.
|
I'm working at a library!
It's just practicum right now, but I like it. :) I'm finishing up Coraline, and have picked up a few more books, shorter ones, so I can get my assignment done faster. One of them is "Bunnicula Meets Edgar Allan Crow." With all the Gothic I've been looking at lately, I could't pass that one up. |

|
Practicum actually, but that's pretty fun because I'm not actually staff and so don't really have to do anything (though I keep to the usual schedule for everyone else) but shadow, but I'm learning stuff anyway. Though I will say this, handling books all day really dries your hands out. Hardcovers are much easier to deal with than paperbacks, though heavier.
|
well that's interesting.
|
Well, apart not drying out my skin, the dust covers mean the slide into the shelf more easily, they don't feel as 'ew,' they are easier to carry in a stack as they are less likely to flop, and they are less prone to getting mushed in a shelf, or having another book stuffed into its pages.
Save me from picture books though. They are large, awkward, heavy, and people borrow them en masse and therefore return them en masse. My poor back! Finished Coraline. Onto Bunnicula and Goth Crow now. I need to read faster or I'll run out of assignment time. |
Ugh, I keep forgetting to read. Too many craft projects to make...
XD |
I would like to do crafts but I've got so much reading. ;)
|
Derpy tugs at Kaderin's sleeve. "MAMA! WEAD ME A BOOK!"
|
this is a list of my book counts on goodreads. 2008 was probably an incomplete year, since i started keeping track at the very end. but, let's play a game called "what year did trystan learn to crochet?" (interesting to note, 2011 was also my first NaNo year)
2008 - 28 books 2009 ‎- 54 books 2010 ‎- 92 books 2011 ‎- 110 books 2012 ‎- 52 books 2013 ‎- 41 books 2014 ‎- 56 books 2015 ‎- 31 books 2016 ‎- 32 books 2017 ‎- 46 books 2018 ‎- 37 books 2019 ‎- 10 books so far so i can't always read and craft either XD |
But Derpy, I need to make you a shawl and an Easter basket!
Trystan: Sush you. Your slowest year is still more than 2 of my years combined... |
i was very surprised at that 110 books that year though...
|
I took the liberty of graphing your data. o-o
https://i.imgur.com/Y6EK0Dx.png Wait. Why did I just do that? 8[ My brain saw data and wanted it put onto a chart! <xD Ah well, at least a made it into a nice little picture of a sun over hills? |
oh that's awesome, Merskelly! =D
|
Thank you. ^U^ I could not stop myself. It's a chart. <xD Why? I'm so confuddled, as to why I drew a chart. I must really miss school. x'D
|
nothing wrong with charts. i still play with spreadsheets, so....
