hehe thanks Kaderin!
i kinda like serieses, myself. XD |
How about meeses?
|
well 'mice' is already plural - 1 mouse, 2 or 12 mice.
'series' seems to be a singular word in my mind.... |
yeah you are right!
I actually meant moose, plural of moose is ? mooses? I think my brain is draining. |
yep... 1 moose, 12 moose. weird.
|
So finally found one pluraless word!
|
i'm sure there's others... English is a weird mutt language....
|
Yes it is a hard language to learn actually.
I'm leaving tomorrow morning I should go to sleep. I hate that it will take me all day to get to Florida, I hate flying. |
i have heard that about English. there's definitely no set of rules that applies to all the words, every grammar rule has about 12 zillion exceptions.
oh have fun! what's in Florida? |
Yeah...and then there are words like tear and tear, read and read, etc.
English is easily the most difficult language in the world to learn. |
this is very true, Kaderin!
it may 'seem' easy when you grow up with it though... but there are still some weird grammar rules |
English was NOT my first language. I was completely immersed in English when I was about 8 and I learned to speak it perfectly in 6 months. I am an avid reader and I find that it helps a lot to navigate the grammar and the idiosyncrasies of English. Those words with double meanings but same spelling!

I am reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons, which is a genre I don't usually read: syfy.
I am really enjoying it, and plan to read the sequel! Although I don't usually I want to see what happens with his world. |
i read Hyperion! (and The Fall of Hyperion)... i think i tried to read Endymion and The Rise of Endymion and couldn't get in to it.
i own Illium and Olympos, and they're on my 're-read eventually' list! XD |
@Trystan: what did you think of them.
I love the stories of the seven pilgrims, I'm not sure I will read The Fall of Hyperion, do you have a recommendation. |
well, i read it in 2011... so i pretty much forget most of it. i kinda remember it.... sorta. i like everything i read, so that's not helpful. XD
|
hahaha Thanks anyway.
I might just give it a try. I tend to get impatient when a book is over 500 pages which both of them are. So yeah, from 2011 you would not remember anything. (I can't wait to see my alien baby) <3 |
hehe you're welcome. =)
|
I have picked up Hyperion more than once, I was attracted to it, because I read Drood by Dan Simmons and I really liked it, then I was surprised he actually wrote syfy. His books are pretty complex, Hyperion was compared to The Canterbury Tales when it first came out, and it won the Hugo Award.
|
Quote:
and i do agree with the complexity - i really like Illium & Olympos. that's why i own those and want to reread 'em. =) |
I really have not read too much syfy, but now that I sort of understand some advanced science themes, I've been dipping in it. Have you read The Time Machine by H.G. Wells? I love that book just a perfect little syfy book. One of my favs is The Ugly Little Boy by Isaac Asimov, its an old book and hard to find. I found a hard copy at a library book sale and was so happy I did, I want to re read it.
|
believe it or not, i have NOT read The Time Machine! i really should!!
i have a lot of faves, actually. XD |
Yes definitely read The Time Machine!
Do you read any other genres? or just syfy? |
hmm... scifi, paranormal, paranormal romance, mystery, horror... and even sometimes just regular 'novels' too.
|
okay so that is a nice mix of genres.
I read so much! So I read mostly fiction, but have been reading some non-fiction lately. I will have to start checking our your reading list for 2017. |
i've read a smattering of non-fiction as well... it's not as often as fiction though XD
|
I read American Ghost recently. Although it wasn't what I expected, I really liked it, the ghost story was not front and center, but it was a fascinating non-fiction read.
|
i'll have two biographies to read, hopefully this year: Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow; and one on Aaron Burr by Nancy Isenberg. i also have a book on my list to read called "The revenge of analog: real things and why they matter." for personal reasons (see my NaNo), i really like this title. XD
|
Wow! you are writing a book? I have tried so many times, and I give up really quickly, it just doesn't keep my engaged.
Those are two interesting bios there. I have The Devil in the White City as one of my to-read books this year. |
i've done NaNo in 2011, 12, 13, 14 and 16. the one from 2016 is linked in my sig - 'Untitled NaNo ~ Suggest a title!'
it's a .... uh, prequel to the one i write in 2014. yeah, we'll go with prequel. (i mean... subject matter makes is an actual prequel. one of the characters makes it kinda sequel-y. it's kinda timey-wimey.) as for the bios, i blame Lin-Manuel Miranda and his little musical for me wanting to read them... XD |
yes I figured that, but it is an interesting time in history, and they were both certainly controversial.
One of the things that attracted me to hyperion is the time themes. I believe that you can actually bend space and time, I believe in the Einstein-Rosen bridge theory. Time can be manipulated I believe and the book is about that. |
heh yep.
my 2013, 14, and 16 NaNos had to do with time travel. as much as time travel makes my brain hurt and leak out my ears, i really love it lots! |
I think it is a theory that is becoming more and more accepted!
Goodnight trystan, I have a headache, again! :( |
cool!
and gah, headaches are no fun, i had one earlier tonight. g'night and sleep well! |
I think my headaches are migraines :(
They are so miserable when I get them. |
ugh, that's not good *hugs*
|
thank you, I just went on webmd and I have some symptoms and not others, so I'm completely confused. Maybe its just feeling stressed, and anxiety. Anxiety can mimic so many symptoms from other physical ailments. I'm not going to worry about it. :)
|
the joke about webmd is that every symptom somehow indicates cancer or you're gonna die. weirdly enough, i think it's oddly amusing XD
... i'm weird, i know |
Oh but I totally agree. Its like when I watched House, well every symptom/disease I saw on the show the next morning, I suffered from the same symptoms. Like I said I'm just going to forget about it, if it continues I will go see my GP.
|
LOL, yeah!
and yeah, seeing the Dr is a good idea if it hangs around longer.... |
