I absolutely love the Dark Hunter Series by Sherilynn Kenyon. Although I have to agree that Twilight pretty much ruined vampire reputations. I saw one of the movies and tried to read the first book but just couldn't. As to P.C' Cast, I sort of liked her first couple books but absolutely cannot stand her main heroine. I haven't been able to read any of her recent books in the series due to disinterest.

If you haven't read them yet, I suggest Kresley Cole. She works with demons and many other supernaturals as well but at least four of her stories are about vampires and are really good I do have to give a lemon warning though...her books are not for virgin minds.

Another author who does vampire books is Laurell K. Hamilton but her later works seem mostly sex and strong violence, it rather feels she has lost her storyline. Her first few works aren't as bad but it is a matter of taste.

Christine Feehan also does the Carpathian novels and while I don't care for how she portrays females generally many people do like her work. Again though lemon warning. Carpathians are not vampires but are very similar.

Kresley Cole!!! I love that woman! She wrote my beloved Kiss of a Demon King which is one of my all time faves.

"Illusion is reality's coy lover . . . I am illusion, Rhydstrom." ~ Sabine.

and Hoshi, Cast's Goddess Summoning series is a lot better than the HoN books, less innocent for a start.

What about a book/series with a vampire supporting character? He doesn't appear as often as I'd like, but when he does, I can't help but love him...

The series is called Chronicles of the Necromancer by Gail Z. Martin, and the first book is called The Summoner. I am currently reading the first book and loving it.

The main character is a "Summoner" as they call him and can communicate with the undead (usually spirits/ghosts). The book is about him, however the supporting cast is very fun. He is accompanied by a bard, who is just awesome and his best friend who is a soldier. The vampire character appears later, saving a friend of theirs who joins up with them, and after that he starts appearing more and more. I hope to see more of him, cause he's really great!

One of the main villains of this series is also a vampire, but... You are meant to not like him, and I certainly don't. I love villains that you can like, since that makes them feel more... human, however this character is far from human! <3

My grandma used to tell me that when i was little, then wondered why i didn't want to watch the disney version :D

The original Dracula . . . not so big on the original, but i like one of the the cut-down versions that has these totally amazing full-page colour illustrations as well as small pencil sketches. Can't remember the company that published it though, shame as i'd like a copy of it.

Oh oh oh!
There's a Dracula Illustrated version.
These are some of the photos, but they're massive soo! xD

Gallowsraven 08-07-2011 06:51 AM

Nope, sorry but they're not the same ones. These ones were gothic art, like the vampiresses and witches you see in the posters nowadays, only not so fantasy-like. I'll have to have a look around and see if i can find one of the pictures for you, then maybe i can find the book. My favourite was of Lucy in the graveyard; it was all in silvers and greys and blue tones, the only real colours were the blood on her lips and dress, her eyes and her hair. The artwork was fantastic, and the book cut out all the long drabble-sections of journal to get to the story.

Those pics are nice though, especially the one that looks like a horse's head, kinda demonic.
