Daddy's got it set to a higher temp during the day and lower at night...that way it gets cold while we're not here, and then stays cold while we're here and in and out the doors...

Ginger 07-13-2012 01:12 AM

Gosh I feel like I live in the 1920's. Am I the only person I know without an air conditioner?

Kali_Namir 07-13-2012 01:19 AM

We live in a speck home...it was basically built from a box, so it's got nothing really unique about it...

But I'm pretty sure for houses to pass inspection now a days (at least in the bible belt of the south), they have to have central heating and AC...

Ginger 07-13-2012 01:27 AM

Yeah I'm sure... it gets ridiculously hot and muggy down there, and tons of bugs because of the moisture in the air.

Kali_Namir 07-13-2012 01:35 AM

Yeah...I do know that window units aren't that expensive and they can cool a house down amazingly well if placed in just the right spot...

Ginger 07-13-2012 02:11 AM

Yeah they can.. it's just that the power bill will skyrocket for us and we can't afford to pay that high of a bill every month.

Jae 07-13-2012 11:11 AM

Power bills are ridiculously high during the summer. My mom called once, last summer, because the bill was getting way higher than normal. Turned out they were billing the wrong person. She didn't get her money back. -_- But, they did offer a discount of some sort. It helped but after that we started getting our 'normal' bills again.

Kali_Namir 07-13-2012 11:25 AM

I'm pretty sure that now some window units use only as much as a washing machine, and if you keep the other windows closed during the day, even on the lowest setting it should make it cool during the heat of the day...

Ginger 07-13-2012 02:38 PM

Rozalyne - Yeah that's bs in my opinion... they should have refunded her what they overcharged AND offered a small discount for three months.

Kali - I've just gotta talk my parents into getting one. They're looking into it because of the sudden heat, thank goodness.

Jae 07-13-2012 04:24 PM

@Ginger
Yeah, my momma wasn't satisfied and still pissed.
It's just so annoying that some companies can get away with so much BS.

On a side note. My brother and I have switched closets, but I still have a crap load of stuff in the old closet. Mainly art stuff and college books and notes. xD;

Ginger 07-13-2012 04:46 PM

It's BS how companies can do that, I agree. Social Security has numerously overpaid my mom and she has owed them back pay. In my opinion, THEY screwed up, not her. They should have to learn from their mistakes instead of repeating them.

Jae 07-13-2012 04:50 PM

Yeah... my boyfriend gets Social Security, but luckily their lawyer knows what the hell he's doing so when they tried that crap on him, he put a stop to it.
It's just ridiculous.

Ginger 07-13-2012 07:36 PM

A lawyer is a good thing to have in cases like that, but unfortunately my mom is too broke to afford one. :c
