I keep seeing people use the term 'hanged' and when i was in school they always yelled at me if i used that instead of 'hung'

like in books 'he hanged himself from the rafters'

and you just put that you 'hanged with people from collage'

o3o what happened to my teachers favorite word 'hung'?

Illusion 06-01-2015 10:58 PM

Hung out?

I say hanged when something just happen, and when I ask people if they want to spend together I say hang.

Demonskid 06-01-2015 11:13 PM

Yea Hang is present tense and Hung is past tense o3o

"We Hung out yesterday"

"Hey do you wanna go hang out at the mall today"

o3o that's what the teachers shoved into our heads growing up so the new use of 'hanged' as past tense is odd to me. I forget what book i saw it in >x<

I looked it up! it was bugging me:

"Hang" as in the method of execution and "hang" as in the act of suspending something are two different words, despite being spelled the same, sounding the same, and having related meanings. The former's past tense is "hanged" while the latter's past tense is "hung."

so which one is the proper term to use for the past tense of being with friends? ouo

your not executing anyone nor are you suspending something.

Coda 06-02-2015 07:49 AM

Texas would be closer than where I am. :P

I'm fairly certain it's "hung out" by analogy with hanging your laundry out to dry.

Demonskid 06-02-2015 08:03 AM
