If you're not specifically thinking about avoiding, you're going to put some of yourself in pictures you make.

The examples he pointed out were this black guy who made excellent pictures, but all of them, no matter what race was being depicted had a bit of a "black" structure to them (the noses especially), this raver-looking girl whose, uh...yaoi images looked rather similar to her, and, uh...others that I forget.

He actually asked that girl if a picture was meant to be her, and she said it did not. And it was in that conversation that he made that observation.

I think the same thing applies to OCs for things. People are naturally inclined to invent characters similar in some way to themselves.

That makes a lot of sense actually :o That would explain a bit I suppose XD My go to for characters is generally black or almost black hair and bright blue or green eyes. I have dark hair yes, but my eyes are light brown, although I always wished I had super pretty bright blue or green XD

That's true. I know I've been guilty of it, hence why I haven't really made a new oc recently because it always feels too samey to other designs I made/attempted to make ;u;

I suppose I should've said "similar to themselves, or what they would like themselves to be." :P I like my green eyes, heh.

Night, Cho. :)

back when I RP'd I was often a treant. Take that as you will.

But when I draw I draw characters that aren't in proportion, not on purpose just . . . you are your own best reference for proportions. Since mine are elongated and aside from being preggo, I was unable to gain weight so my characters were thin with long limbs and weird hands! Didn't matter what I was drawing even my tree people.

So I started drawing chibis because they are cute and squishy.

Tohopekaliga 12-02-2016 06:58 PM

I drew mostly merfolk when I drew consistently, lol. Proportions were all kinds of not-me.

Hey side note, just learned from my new parenting pipeline - hatchimal is the toy of the year.

Tohopekaliga 12-02-2016 07:11 PM

I had to google that. :P

It's...a tomogatchi thing stuffed toy? Interesting...

Glitch 12-02-2016 07:31 PM

My friend is going nuts trying to find one for her kid and so I was like "i'll just look online here. . . oh. . . ohh. . . $200? oh. . . sold out everywhere ever? . . oh geez. . . "

Potironette 12-02-2016 07:38 PM

Is it bad the first thing I thought of was putting a hammer to the egg XD? Granted, it looks pretty safe for kids who accidentally *cough* accidentally drop the egg. If I were a kid with a toy like that, I would have dropped it if I saw a video of it hatching :x

Tohopekaliga 12-02-2016 07:42 PM

I feel like I'd have gotten my dad's tools and disassembled it. :P

Potironette 12-02-2016 07:59 PM

As a kid I never had the tools to dissemble things. The one screwdriver was too big. The small ones were much too small. At some point I got a little screwdriver that fit into some sort of thing. But the screws must have been shaved(?) or something, because it wouldn't come out! That sort of killed any attempts to peer into things XD

Tohopekaliga 12-02-2016 08:00 PM

My dad was (he's retired now) a telephone and cable technician, so he had all kinds of interesting tools to poke at things with.

Potironette 12-02-2016 08:13 PM

I have no clue what a telephone and a cable do and what a technician does and why they need tools X'D.

The only tools I'm acquainted with are the hammer and a big/medium/small screwdriver XD.

Glitch 12-02-2016 08:17 PM

I would have totally bought into it because I believed in magic. I believed if I loved and cared for and nurtured anything it might just might maybe come to life for real.

Potironette 12-02-2016 10:07 PM

That's a really wonderful thing to believe!
Living dolls was a thing that I stopped thinking about once I found out toys were breakable, lose-able, throw-able, and cut-able...I guess I really didn't love or nurture toys :x
