I imagine it's probably better to wait until you have a more stable connection, than to waste any more time.
|
I'll get there eventually.
|
It really is a fun game. I want to play it more, I should really budget more time for it.
|
o_O It is? Seriously?
Maybe I'm desensitized or something, having played hundreds of times. :| I suppose that's good to hear, though. |
It's entirely possible I'm biased, it being your game and all Suzerain... I do really like what I've played so far though.
|
I suppose I'll have to wait for Quiet's university-honed critical opinion. :p
So, have you played more Serra, or are you still in Amilia's flashback? |
Still in the flashback, I was at a friend's since last night until a few hours ago.
|
Found the disappearing issue. Tried downloading the exe again and it turns out my Norton anitvirus has been deleting it because it's threatening somehow. Anti-virus can be picky so I'm not sure if there's an issue or not but that appears to be why my downloads are missing.
Checked the program history. It's listed the source site's reputation as "bad" so that's why it may be blocking my downloads. Pre-emptive strike by paranoid anti-virus. |
I can't imagine that's anything but a false alarm. I mean, I can't know with certainty and would feel horrible if you got a virus from it, but from my past experiences with Norton, it sounds like it just being hyper-vigilant.
|
Anti-Virus for dummies you could say. I have the Helm of computer guardians. Must be Vigilant! I should be able to retrive the files though, seeing as they are in quarrantine, apparently.
|
Yeah, the first thing I did when I got my new laptop was to eradicate every trace of Norton off of it. I use Avira, which is free and works fairly well, and doesn't give many false alarms, or annoy me beyond a pop-up once per day asking me to pay for the special version.
|
I've liked Norton so far. It does the job and hasn't irritated me with anything this particular incident, and I've had it for 2 years so far.
|
My biggest complaint with it is actually how much of the computer's resources it takes up, and how much junk it installs on your harddrive that you'll never use.
But, if it works for you, all the power to you. I just don't see the point of spending money on AV when there are free programs that do the same job (more or less.) But, this is way off-topic. Back to praising my game design, damn it! |
Heh, I like the screen shots. :).
And yeah, apparently that was a big issue with the original Norton. Supposedly that's been fixed, not that I'd really know. |
Oh, well, I haven't used Norton in years, so maybe it's better now.
And, were you able to recover the file from the quarantine? |
Haven't tried yet. Mad with it today. Try tomorrow.
On the game note, the little square characrers amuse me. :). 'Tis like someone stuff them into blocks and they don't quite fit. |
Yeah, they're all just a tiny bit exaggerated. There's something I really like about the art style for this maker over the other ones I've used over the years. Not sure what, but it just appeals to me, visually.
|
Nostalgic Zelda? Or the early FF games? That's what it reminds me of. Essence of childhood reassurance.
|
Haha.
But honestly, not that much. It uses more colors than those really old games, which is probably why I like it so much. Same style, but looks better. |
Any more progress or thoughts on your game Sheol? I admit I haven't tried to dig it up from my argumentative Norton pit. I think I still need to get the sounds files too.
|
I played it a bit the other day but I got distracted by some other stuff. At least I've gotten to "free exploring mode" ;)
|
You sit there with it idling in your quarantine and dare pester me about it?! :p
Seriously, though, I haven't touched it since I put it up here. Waiting for more feedback. |
Hey, just making conversation :p. Thought I'd see how things were going while simultaneously bumping the thread up for new people to look at and possibly nab the game too. Be good and accept your free bump!
|
Note the tongue-lolling smiley. Your bump is most appreciated. :)
Just go DL the game so we can talk about it. :p |
Tongue-lolling smilies require either eye-rolling or more tongue-lolling responces, and it's rude to roll your eyes at someone. ;)
|
I will just note here, since I forgot to earlier, that the world map isn't actually free-roam. :p
I'm pretty tyrannical with location switches. They should all be switched off except for where you need to go at any given moment (and it'll usually give you an explanation for why you can't go there yet). Even to the point of backtracking, a lot of locations get closed of... for reasons that'll become apparent in the course of the game. Oh, and if you wander too far south at first, you'll run into tougher monsters... which is actually good, since they're still beatable for the most part but give more gold and xp. |
As long as you don't pull a DnD movie forcefield of "you cannot pass"-ness with a trap that leads the main guy -who is the only one that can pass- TO the treasure. Yeah, smooth there Mr. director/screenwriter/producer guy.
|
I am so happy I can't remember that. :D
And it's mostly just rail-roading, which is admittedly poor form, but I'm not quite sure how to get around it in this format. If the game was less story-driven I could allow complete free-roam, but as it is, most places have events on first entry which need to be viewed sequentially to make sense. |
Well, you could always do what Final Fantasy 2 and Ys does...put monsters that are FAR above your level in places you're not supposed to be yet. I always liked the fact that they let you go places you shouldn't, then mercilessly slay you for ignoring the warning/danger signs. ;)
|
Well, the problem with that here is that you'll be going to those places within like an hour of playtime, and even with my fairly-accelerated experience curve, you don't increase in power *that* much to justify doing something like that.
Though, granted if I let you head east to Mandelaine right at the beginning of the game, you'd get slaughtered. :p |
Thats one of the potential player deterrants I consider in DnD, though I haven't used it much. Knowing my party, they'd just die.
|
If it was my old DnD party, they'd kill the overpowered monsters and gain an insane amount of XP. :p
