whitexsuicide 05-15-2012 02:12 PM

oh that would be very nice, but i don't have one of those... I just wish i could re-take the classes at school, but my three years in high school counted for the two classes they offered in college... and they wouldn't let finial aid cover it since i already had the credits in it TT^TT

Demonskid 05-15-2012 02:16 PM

i wish my highschool had japanese courses D:

whitexsuicide 05-15-2012 02:19 PM

I just wish i took it in Middle school instead of Spanish... curse my low self esteem... I would of had 7 years i think, if i took it thoughout middle school... lame right?

that got rid of it in middle school though TT^TT we were soo worried about our sensei's job when we found out that they might get rid of japanese in high school

Demonskid 05-15-2012 02:47 PM

all my school had was French and Spanish

and the middle school had no other language so.. that and to even TAKE a foureign language you needed good grades in English which i didnt =/

Azrael 05-15-2012 02:49 PM

今日、日本語の試験がある。。。心配している。たんごをたくさん。。。忘れた。ー_ー

Thank you.

Two problems:

(1) You misspelled "doumo" and "arigatou".

(2) That phrase is usually written without kanji at all -- in fact, native speakers may have to double-take to realize what it was you said.

But good work getting the IME running, and keep trying!

whitexsuicide 05-16-2012 01:21 PM

hmmm well i am new at this japanese thing you showed me and not good at kanji at all, but i think i can handle the spelling errors... it was just soo long ago that I did japanese.. that and i am use to writing it out... no more kanji for me!

どうも ありがとう ございます。
domou arigatou gozaimasu.
Thank you very much.

Now i feel better. i just have to remember the long vowels~

Ultima 05-16-2012 01:25 PM

ええ、ぼくもかんじがきらい。
Ee, boku mo kanji ga kirai.
Yeah, I dislike kanji, too.

I never know if I'm using the right kanji because I know so few characters x.x;;

whitexsuicide 05-16-2012 01:32 PM

はい、 はい。 ほんとう です ねえ。
hai, hai. hontou desu nee.
yes, yes. so true.

i was suppose to know over 100 by the time i graduated but i barely think i know 25...

Azrael 05-16-2012 07:23 PM

I probably know about 200 or so kanji, or... mmm... yeah, maybe about that many? Maybe 250 depending on the time. >3<' I need to keep up with them though so I don't forget them :(

I probably failed my test, but... IDK I don't care right now x.x

Demonskid 05-16-2012 07:27 PM

I know my number kanji and the days ouo

Coda 05-16-2012 11:00 PM

When I graduated, I knew 500 or so. I've forgotten a great many since then. *is old fart*

Azrael 05-16-2012 11:42 PM

@_@ I should know about 500 kanji... but I'm bad at remembering them because we don't use them often enough :P

Demonskid 05-17-2012 08:18 AM

they have WAY to many kanji =w=

Coda 05-17-2012 12:47 PM

There's only around 2200 official kanji. Much better than Chinese! And consider the size of your English vocabulary; you certainly know more than 2200 words, and English is pretty awful at being able to figure out how to write a word just based on its sound.

Azrael 05-17-2012 01:55 PM

Coda, how did you learn your kanji? Did you learn it by compounds (remember which kanji goes with which and how it was read) or did you just memorize all the readings of each kanji? (that's what I did, memorize the readings. Cause from there you can usually guess how something is read, then if you know the reading of one, or if you know the vocab)

Demonskid 05-17-2012 02:04 PM

I can't spell my english words to save my life D:

Azrael 05-17-2012 02:17 PM

XD I can't spell in THREE different languages that I can write! Yay for me <3
english, Japanese, OR Korean. Especially Korean... XD

Demonskid 05-17-2012 02:31 PM

xD I wanna learn one at a time and i gave up on english ;3

Azrael 05-17-2012 02:34 PM

LoL
I think my spelling's so bad with Korean cause I'm not entirely certain on how to pronounce things @_@'

Coda 05-17-2012 02:41 PM

Neither! I learned kanji as part of vocabulary instead of standing alone. I would learn a word including how to write it, and that was that. If I came across a kanji I recognized in a word I didn't, that was at least enough information to look it up, and thereby learn another reading for it. But I never focused on practicing "this character has these readings" or "this compound sounds like this".

Korean's pronunciation is very normal and consistent. It's very much like Japanese in that regard. And it's an alphabetic language like English, just organized into written syllables to make it even easier to see the cadence of the word.

Azrael 05-17-2012 03:01 PM

Aaah >3< That would be a good way to learn it practically, but unfortunately for school since we were tested on vocab usually, and Kanji only during final/midterm, there was never any reason to remember the kanji as well as trying to remember the word @_@ But I don't know, I do prefer just learning all of the readings.

I know it's consistent, but I find it very difficult to pronounce. Along with the writing, there's some rules I can never quite remember as well. >3<' Something about the fourth character going over to the next syllable or something like that. I don't remember ;-;

whitexsuicide 05-18-2012 01:34 PM

i wish i could remember the kanji i learned, it was just so much and towards the last year i started to not study and stuff, which made everything harder...

Demonskid 05-18-2012 01:57 PM

Kanji is hard to memorize ._.

whitexsuicide 05-18-2012 02:13 PM

it soo is! then trying to memorize the stroke order UGH... that is the worst!
My sensei really worked us hard on it too..
