Hey, do you want me to fill in for Faux while she's gone? For the Cafe?? o.o We haven't had anyone to specifically serve tasties while she's been gone. :/

Lawtan 05-08-2014 10:57 PM

Certainly, Kilala! :3

Lawtan 05-08-2014 11:02 PM

Okay, I will try to give about 5 segments, the first 2 are done, so...we begin:

___________________________

On a fair day on the Danube, the morning beauty lit over the trees, and tinkled down the rooftops into the open rooms. Cockerels crowed from the dirt paths of our inner village, and the fair boatmen would knock heavily on our door, eager for last minute purchases before they would hazard the trip downriver to Vienna.

As I opened mine eyes today, I would find my wife already dressed, her brown locks already fixed, and a nice but work-worthy dress about her. I would prepare the store while she sent our lovely childe off to work the stone out back – good meal didn’t fix itself.

Looking out of our quaint, two-story store and home, I already saw the first of the boatmen - ol’ Josef – coming by. Like a lumbering fool – my wife always called me that – I headed down to open shop, thankful that I had straightened the shop last night. From tack to grog, the general had all these men needed to carry supplies back and forth. Some candied foods were available for a…wealthier client. Meal and bait was stored in barrels, good to take to the bakery or catch a fish.

Vincent 05-08-2014 11:22 PM

Oooh story time o-o' -sits next to kilala and listens- o-o;

Kilala Mikal 05-08-2014 11:22 PM

That's really good, Law!
-can't wait for more!-

Lawtan 05-08-2014 11:25 PM

Josef stuck his grisly sun-worn head in. For a boater, he was a small old crank, but his bearded smile would make anyone pleased. It was with such a smile that he greeted me.

“How’s it going, Mr. Schwartz?”

“Same ol, same ol’, Joseph. How about yerself?”

“Well, other than rumers about a downright nasty group from the west, and my back a-killing me, nuthin much.”

“Rumors?”

“Yeah, sumethin about “horses and flames” or some such. Don’t buy into it meself.”

“Yeah, I get ya. After the last war, word spreads nuts.”

“I heard ‘bout one fella who was talking to a fish. Not any fish, mind you. This fish claimed ‘e were the next Pope. Most blasphemous thing I e’er did here.”

So we went on, and I packed up his supplies, wished him well, and went on to out next fellow, and on for much of the day. The sky got dark as clouds rode in, and I anticipated a storm. I'd need to get some more supplies, for weary folk a-comin in, and so I went out into the town.

Kilala Mikal 05-08-2014 11:28 PM

*magicks herself a bag of hershey's minis chocolates in a bowl while listening intently*

Lawtan 05-08-2014 11:46 PM

The town was a rather simple sort of place, with roads of dirt and trampled grasses. The central square held produce in wooden carts, alongside fish and the like. To east laid the blacksmith, and to the west, the bakery. Old, worn stone walls stood guard from outside threats, the only real stone in the city. We didn’t really have many visible beggars, unlike most towns – I chalked it up to the waterways pulling them outside of the city. We had a simple church, and a rustic townhouse, a tavern with beds for visiting boaters, and a few abandoned spaces. That was about it.

I went about gathering food and all from in town, so I could cater to boatmen hiding from the now more obvious storm approaching. The clouds appeared more and more ominous. Passing by the townhouse, I could hear fiery words pass under a sweltering closed-in building. After placing my supplies in the cart, I began to walk home.

Wait. There was a sound. More sounds. I heard ever more sounds from outside the wall, and the gate was closed. What was happening? Curiosity was king over reason, as it is in several people, so I attempted to better see the situation. My heart thud against my chest as I saw a blade split the old moldy wooden gate.

Vincent 05-09-2014 12:15 AM

o-o' -sipping on drink- ohhh. o-o' Sounds a bit scary DX... then what? owo'

Lawtan 05-09-2014 12:21 AM

There was a shout. Suddenly, a flash enveloped the wall, followed by a boom. Something flew to my feet…stone? As light and smoke cleared, the faithful wall had crumbled. Dark specters on horseback stormed through the breach, bearing torches. After a moment of shock, I turned and ran for home, selfishly hoping for the town to preoccupy these raiders.

The overcast evening began to light as flames spread across dry wood like tinder in an encompassing circle, funneling those within. Screams scattered everywhere. More sounds, unfamiliar, like sizzles and pops, accompanied them. Through an alley was a shortcut home, and I hastily took it. As I ran, heat poured out near me. Crashing, beams fell and flames licked my running legs. I cried out involuntarily and continued home.

As I stumbled home, I could still hear the riders nearby, covering more ground. I had to get my wife and child out of here! I needed to calm down with the thoughts racing through my mind. I opened the door to a boatsman chatting with my wife. Shouting, and likely terrifying the poor dear, I demanded we find our childe. Grabbing basic supplies, I tossed as much coin as was in our daily sack, asking him to take us away from town.

A flurry of footsteps approached the front door, which turned out to be my blessed kinder and frau, but still we had to make haste. She alerted me that the boats were already burning. Ominously, strong footsteps closed closer. Quiet as the common fieldmouse we hid behind or under furniture. Laughter and crude words echoed through the wood. Minutes passed before flames licked the inside of the wooden walls. With alarm, we scrambled to the river bolo. Breaking the opening in the riverman’s special chair, we lept through to the waters below, with sacks of floatable material to keep us afloat.

As we floated unseen along the river, the town and banks burned to the ground. We were thankful for our lives, though, and remained so with each successive raid after. We have somewhat grown used to it after a while. The old walls were useless to us, and wood needed to be rebuilt as stone. The bodies, what remained of them, we could never quite account for, but we are a strong town of survivors, and we endure still.

END...for now

Vincent 05-09-2014 12:26 AM

So we never know what was burnin stuff down? t-t' /for now? XD

ALSO. question, if either of you saw something dangerous headed your way, and it was late at night, would you run through a dark alleyway shortcut to your house in 3 minutes, or take the long way for 6 minutes? O:
not saying in insult to the story, just wondering genuinly. XD
