(not sure if I said all of this right >3<)
Waa, I'm at the library now... Boring~ But, I must study. Therefore, I stay at the library. Because I can't study at home.

Yeeeah not entirely sure I said mostly the last two sentences right, but whatever. >3<'

Um... DK, I wonder if you made a bit of a mistake. It looks like you mixed up "Haunt" and "hontou".

How do you guys get the japanese characters up?

c:
I can't remember what the word(s) for nice to meet you are, so please tell me so I can thank you guys C:

Nya, my knowledge of japanese is so limited ;w;

Coda 05-10-2012 12:04 PM

"Yoroshiku onegaishimasu" or "douzo yoroshiku".

And here's some instructions: http://www.declan-software.com/japanese_ime/ (Caveat: I've not tried them. I don't run Windows anymore and it's changed since I did.)

Haunting 05-10-2012 12:07 PM

Arigato Coda-sempai!
Yoroshi onegaishimasu C:

Is there a difference between the words? I mean is like one, informal or formal?

Demonskid 05-10-2012 01:31 PM

I messed around in my control panel languages to get mine working xp

Haunting 05-10-2012 01:55 PM

I got it working :D
I can now type in japanese characters <3

Woo -glomps-
Hmm i will start studying jap i think properly after my exam tomorrow, its the last day tomorrow, so yea, my exam wil be finished :D

Hm, so what got you guys into wanting to study japanese?

Demonskid 05-10-2012 02:04 PM

Anime started my facination then the music and Live movies got me wanting to learn more :3

Haunting 05-10-2012 02:19 PM

Haha neat :D
I believe thats the same for me owo
I mean the earliest anime i can remember is Tenchi Muyo.
-glomps-

Demonskid 05-10-2012 02:31 PM

Sailor Moon for me ouo

Haunting 05-10-2012 02:33 PM

Awww i remember that show :D
I once tried out the jap one, found the girls voices a bit too annoying for that though haha xD;

But Tenchi Muyo was the first, followed by either Outlaw Star or Sailor Soon after. -nods- then Card Captor Sakura & Shaman King

Demonskid 05-10-2012 02:34 PM

I prefer the japanese version due to america cutting out a lot of the stuff.. and the name changes are lame to xD

I don't remember what was next.. I think Pokemon then Digimon :3

Ultima 05-10-2012 03:50 PM

You start with "yoroshiku" that's casual. "Douzo" makes it more emphatic (and slightly more formal) and "onegaishimasu" makes it (considerably) more formal. You CAN apply both.

Azrael 05-11-2012 03:27 AM

I have a Japanese exam next Tuesday... I must study ... therefore, on saturday I plan to study with my friends. >3<

Mmm, I think I started studying because of anime, but now I do it because I love it and I love learning languages.

Fenris 05-11-2012 04:09 AM

Pokemon and Digimon the Anime came out the same year, as for which ones truly older..., Pokemon wins by a small margin. Though in all technicalities, digimon got its beginnings from tomigachi, I am not sure if that is older than Pokemon or not. Digimon were tomigachi's made for boys. It later turned into a franchise (which I actually prefer over Pokemon but I like both).

doitashimashite Ulti-kun
you are welcome Ulti.

:3

Coda 05-11-2012 11:41 AM

The Digimon toys DO count, and they came first by a couple years.

Haunting 05-11-2012 01:00 PM

Coda, when you say apply both, as in so its 'Yoroshiku Douzo Onegaishimasu'
And thats just pleased to meet you as a empathetic but highly formal manner?

Also emphatic, what does that mean? =w=;;
And how do you prounounce the words? I tend to prounounce things how they are spelt if i dont know owo which can be normally wrong xD;

Ultima 05-11-2012 01:24 PM

Haunting: Actually, I think it's "Douzo yoroshiku onegaishimasu"
As for pronounciation, luckily Japanese letters virtually all have one way to pronounce them unlike English where "c" can sometimes sound like a "k" or sometimes "s" ...

I hope this helped and didn't just confuse you more x.x;

Coda 05-11-2012 04:26 PM

I disagree on the sound of j. It's really somewhere in between -- softer than English "message" but harder than "mirage". If you have to get it wrong, make it too hard rather than too soft.

Also, "emphatic" is the adjectival form of "emphasis", so that should help understand it.

Demonskid 05-11-2012 04:42 PM

thing of gee for ji ouo it sounds the same

Haunting 05-11-2012 04:44 PM

Okay o:!
I'll have to keep that in mind and reivew back to that alot xD;
This will take some time, but thankyou C:
This should make it eaiser for me to speak the words.

Arigato <3
To both of you :D

Demonskid 05-11-2012 04:46 PM

douitashimashite ouo

your welcome.

I need to print stuff out xp

Haunting 05-11-2012 04:57 PM

Demon, I didnt see your post ealier, thanks as well.
And lol, that is a very good idea owo
Put it somewhere like...on the bathroom door xD we all get bored on the loo x3; haha

Demonskid 05-11-2012 05:17 PM

x'D I'm gonna put it in a binder so i dun lose it

Ultima 05-11-2012 05:26 PM

Oh, I've always pronounced 'ji' soft and cringe when people pronounce it too hard >>;
But that's just how I've gotten used to pronouncing it. My Japanese teacher didn't yell at me, soo... I guess I thought I didn't need to fix it ^^;

Demonskid 05-11-2012 05:44 PM

i always listened to the way they said it in movies, songs and lessons i have xD

"e" when used as a particle is written "へ", not "え", just like "o" is written "を" and not "お", and "wa" is "は" instead of "わ". (The pattern makes me speculate that historically the particle を may have been written ほ, and a sound shift caused the particles to migrate from the h- column to the w- column, but I don't know if that's actually true.)

whitexsuicide 05-14-2012 11:40 AM

oh thank you coda~~ i learned that one day, but must of forgotten... I took three years of Japanese~~ I have just forgotten most of it since it has been over two years now... TT^TT

@DK: Ah yes it was one of the first things my sensei taught us. Everyday she would ask genki desu ka. and that is what we would have to say!
