but then I never got any more quotes xD

...We interrup this program for an important announcement:

Young Astronomer and Geologist has just found a fossil that puts most chimera to shame!

Behold, in China, in the late Jurassic period, there were bat-sized theropods (as in velociraptors or T-rex) that had webbed forelimbs (alias, batlike), teeth only in the front of its bird-shaped head/mouth, three four tail-like structures, and a feathered body. It's called "Yi qi" or "Strange wing"

...That is all. Well, and Aerodactyl from Pokemon is based on a real pterodactyl species (of the toothed variety) and is also now the name of a newly discovered pterosaur...

Please, go back to enjoying your previously scheduled shenanakins

Lawtan, I insist you use your mad sciences to bio engineer me a clone of this animal.

Lawtan 08-31-2016 10:31 AM

...I'd want to draw it in some form, and may after I've practiced a bit more.

As for bioengineering, we'll get mammoths before these guys. (though we have stuff from both, I think)...issue being that it may be that our environment is too different for it to survive. (maybe not, though, since its esssentially bat-bird)

Fun fact: this creature is likely the earliest known example of a purely attractive aesthetic adaptation (the three tails are believed to be like a peacock's feathers...as can be displayed by big birds in general, tails impede flight...well, unless you're this guy)

...And mom thought horses were nature's aberration.

Natsunaine 08-31-2016 01:23 PM

B..buh...law i want one :(

Lawtan 08-31-2016 04:29 PM

It's extinct, thou...
:(

Though, I think it is a possible candidate for bringing back...I doubt it will happen in our lifetime. If at all ;~;

(Bringing back being more "creating genetic offshoots of current species that have the same characteristics as earlier creatures" and less "get partial DNA from amber"...the latter has a large number of issues...the former is sort of being done with some dog breeding...I mean, if we can make GMO plants and bacteria to make food and medicine, why not try to make a velociraptor out of a turkey?)

Turkeyraptor: Gobble, gobble, son!

Natsunaine 08-31-2016 10:19 PM

But mad science mojo ;_;

Lawtan 09-01-2016 02:55 PM

:( Mad science is still science, and takes time. Cackling madly does not make the process faster any more than "silly wand movements and incantations"

...On the bright side, Opabinia are relatives to Tardigrades. One's a Cambrian water fellow the size of your heel with 5 eyes and mix between a proboscis and a claw. The other's a modern six-legged microorganism who can survive a period of time in the void of space.

Cambrian: The time nature brought you creatures like hallucigenia.

...Sorry for always being a nerd.

Natsunaine 09-01-2016 03:25 PM

No! Dont apologize i can be the same way xD

trystan830 09-01-2016 10:42 PM

*is lurking in the shadows*

Batty 09-05-2016 02:54 PM

-is also lurking- xD

Lawtan 09-05-2016 03:49 PM

Nope! Lurkers get black holes! Muahahahaha!

...On another note, Vantablack - the closest material made to be "true black"

Natsunaine 09-06-2016 04:35 PM

-lurks the lurkers-

Now im thinking of starcraft ;_; dang it.

Lawtan 09-06-2016 06:32 PM

*Starts singing*
"Stargate...
It's a great big world...
with a great big swirl you step inside to another world..."

trystan830 09-06-2016 09:23 PM

LOL! love it, Lawtan! XD

Batty 09-10-2016 12:05 PM
