Aww..I hadn't checked Syn in a while. I actually had really gotten to liking their avatars and stuff a lot.

Yeah, I love Syn's sheer quantity of color option as well as their dye system.

As for Gaia...when I first had joined and was active, I had a few artist friends and I would mainly just hang out in their art shops and chat there...and then order art when I could afford it. But then I had a couple years where I couldn't access the site and they all kind of abandoned it. So I pretty much gave up on Gaia.
I just wish I could find some of them on other sites because I want to buy tons of art always. Especially OC art...

Heya, I was summoned here...kinda. sorry my avatar is kinda plain, getting used to layouts and just starting out...fun stuff. So we're talking about syn huh? I'm kinda down about it myself but it's been struggling for some time. So I'm not exactly surprised.

Speaking of artists on Gaia remember my commitioned one with my Christmas art I wanted done and they said they would make it and all THEN VANISHED, I JUST NOW HEARD BACK FROM THEM, .....first it was they are WORKING on it be done shortly, VANISH UNTIL NOW, and I get a sorry the work wasn't done I'm way behind on art and WON'T BE DOING MY REQUEST o. O that's messed up I understand if they are busy and can't do my work but if you are previously behind on art then why tell me it will be SHORTLY???? oh well though I am done with that project anyhow

Aww. I hate artists that do that. I had one artist on Gaia pull something similar many years ago. I had ordered a group art and then they disappeared and I just figured they were busy. But after a few months I was kind of like "hey, it should have been done by now, what's up?" and they said they had been busy. Bad family issues or something. So I waited a few more months, and still nothing. Finally, like a YEAR later, they were just like "oh, by the way, I'm not doing your art."

I had a brief stint as a community leader on there. Unfortunately the CL team fell apart pretty quickly, which I think was because of a few major reasons...
But I suppose that really doesn't matter much.
It was a pretty cool site for the short time that I was on it.

When I was most active on Gaia, I was playing an economic game with the MB, and posting in...breedable/changing pets board. That was about it, lol.

That was like 2007.

Oh! Breedable/changing pets! I always wanted one, but could never afford them back in the day! And now no one really makes them anymore.

Honestly I'm going to miss syn. Like there were days when I'd just screw around in the dream creator. I actually think a lot of my OC's came from that lol.

They were usually rp characters, not really pets in the shops I hung out in. That is still a thing, although I don't go there anymore.

I 100% gave up on gaia after that.

I was looking at Gaia a few days ago. They tell you the estimated market value of your inventory now (likely to stave off people looking to duplicate TekTek)...and mine is, uh, 5.8 trillion gold. XD

I have 200k.

If I still had my account and items it would probably be that high too.
But I donated all the gold I got from selling my items to a charity and then changed my password to some impossibly long number and letter combo. So yep. No more Gaia for me.
Didn't have any active friends anymore anyway though.

I tried Gaia sometime in 2010, it was impossible for me to navigate.
I had a friend tell me, you won't get far on that site. So I just gave it up after 1 week.

I never really got into Gaia. At the time my brother showed it to me I was far more preoccupied with my neopets. Now all I've heard is that it's market is a mess and I do not have the patience for that. Except for playing the market on Flight Rising...but that's different...because dragons.

I never really understood Gaia. Are they so popular/famous because they were really the first avi site?

It's based on marketboard sales.

Some time a few years ago, they started selling items that just spew gold at you, which lead to some pretty wild inflation. That's why inventory is so much.


And Gaia was the first avatar site, far as I'm aware. It's famous for being famous.


Even in 2004 (when I joined), it had a reputation for being a spammy mess, although not the same kind of mess. My non-gaia internet friends preferred more...erudite discussion than the average gaia thread.

There was a dating shop on gaia at the time. So it was avatar site + online dating site.

the thread I chatted in with my friends was basically a big thread for people hooking up with other people and it was kind of funny because there were all those "cybering" jokes at the time which actually meant something >.> but it was also uhm not good in hindsight because I was 14. . . and my friends were 14-16 and there were some creepy 30 year olds on there toooooo and very little moderating censoring for that stuff . . .

So anyway the dating shop was taken down and you can only see it on the map of Gaia now and it is unclickable.

Went and checked when I "officially" told the admin team...March 14, 2014. Ouch. I spent a lot of time doing very little. D:

Actually there are a lot of creepy old men on all sites now.
Omegle, Chatous and a lot of others. I gave up on them because everyone is so creepy and dirty. I just want to chat, that is why I like avi sites.
