Lol, all's good; I just have to wait 2 or so weeks in order to get a decent graphics card so it supports a resolution higher than 1024x768 ( and can run GW2, since that's another really big reason why I'm fixing it up. Hardest part was finding an affordable motherboard that could handle a dual core processor - oddly, they're very hard to find. e__e - but we managed to find a computer with the motherboard and processor I needed already for a good price. Already got a graphics card picked out, so all I need to do now is wait; couple bills need to be paid for the next two weeks, so the soonest I can get it is after that, lol. ) Dx

Uh well, we got it from a thrift store, so who the hell knows what's inside it specifically. It's originally a Dell Optiplex, which makes a SHITTY time finding drivers ( especially when some of it has been replaced ). I'm getting a nice Galaxy GeForce PICe graphics card with 2GB of memory for $55, if it stays that price for the next two weeks, lol. Right now it has the crappiest Radeon Xpress 200 chipset in it and it wont install the driver right. Figured I wouldn't bother with it when I'll be getting another graphics card and I could just disable the chipset, lol.
The one I'm on right now is a Dell 4600 I think ( really old Dx ) and the situation I had with it kind of screwed me over. What with the motherboard not being able to upgrade the processor to a dual or higher, but the graphics card was really nice ( kind of old ATI Radeon HD 3600 AGP card, but if I had a better processor, it would've been beautiful to work with. I'm sad that I can't boost it to its true potential ; n ; ) but since it's AGP, I can't put it into a new motherboard... So I couldn't upgrade the motherboard without having to get a new graphics card, which meant I couldn't upgrade the processor; basically had to get an entire computer, lol. Was really lucky when my dad found the one at the thrift store for around $140, lol. We'll also be putting more RAM in it of course, since all it has in it right now is 2GB. Yay project xD Have to consider, really tight budget so I can't get crazy $500 cards or computers. I've gotta be crafty. @__@ |
<w<;; I understand your pain. My dad got me this laptop for christmas two years ago, it's just a basic HP, dual core, ok graphics card. i couldn't play alot of games on it if i tried, minecraft would be easy but anything higher and it's just crawlllll!
And yea, I suppose I could buy a better one but this one works for what I need it for, so I don't see a point in getting some fancy computer for basically browsing the internet and writing. @w@ 140$ is pretty damn good! Even if it's used that is a sweet deal. |
This computer actually does a pretty damn kickass job for a single core. It plays GW2 with a decent 10-20 fps average ( when there isn't a lot of people around ) and the lag is manageable. Tera is also playable on it ( played it until I couldn't pay for the sub anymore lol ). Free to play games oddly seem to really laze on the optimization, though, so I have trouble with those. I think once this new computer is fixed up, I can play GW2 with hardly a problem, which will make me VERY VERY VERY HAPPY. xD
+in love with GW2... thinks it is a piece of art in every way+ I have a laptop that was decent when I got it ( was a graduation present, so I got it in 2009, lol ) with a dual core, 4GB of RAM, but of course a chipset for the graphics, which sucked. Even more so because it was an Intel chipset. Dx So it does an egh job on games as well, but it was a lot faster than this one when it comes to my drawing and internet-surfing. Unfortunately, the fan crapped out in it and I don't have the money to get it fixed ( I'm confident with desktops, but I'm scared to death of touching laptops, lol ). I don't even care to look at harddrive space since I NEVER keep stuff on the harddrive; I've got an external terabyte, so all I really have to do is plug it in and it's like nothing's changed, lol. My dream computer though, is a customized CyberPower Black Pearl.... hhhhhnnnnngggggg Don't care what anyone says. Alienware can go eat a sausage. ( Mainly because they're Dell and I dislike Dell quite a bit. eAe Plus they're not even the best and they're way overpriced. ) Lol I got so pissed once when a friend of my dad's got an Alienware laptop, and on the FIRST DAY he had it, he had to format it because he downloaded shit that was all virus-loaded. And I wanted to find the guy and beat him with an old Dell cabinet. Dx |

That made me laugh so loud I scared the crap outta my dogs, who are upstairs. thank you <3 Honestly, computers are my brothers area, so I tend to let them pick all of the hardware out for me. My eldest brother actually went with my dad to get this one, I told him what I needed it to do and he came back and said "It'll handle all your art programs and is compatible with your writing programs, but it'll probably crap out if you wanna play any game with high graphics. But you can upgrade it to do that shit if you want." Then he went about setting up all my crap for me >w>; I could use a tablet on this computer easily, but I could never get into them, so I tend to stick to paper annd pencil. |

I don't know enough to be an expert, but I can easily learn pretty quick. My dad and I have always been into rebuilding, redoing, tweaking computers - and we've been doing it since I was a 7th grader, lol. Whatever I don't know, I get really stubborn and look it up until I get it. xD I do it with software too. Like when I was modding Dragon Nest; I got so deep into it, that within 5 days, I went from just un-"pak"ing files, to full-fledged 3D modeling with Maya. xD +once he starts, he doesn't stop+ ... until I get bored, that is. @__@ I CANNNOOOOTTT LIIIIIVE without my tablet. I got money from winning a logo contest, and with it, I bought my tablet, which has been loyally working for me since 2008. I love it to death. xD Before my tablet, I used a mouse and that made my arm want to shrivel ( and hurt for reasons OTHER than what most dudes have hurt arms for ). If that thing ever dies, I will cry forever. I don't care, my masculinity can suck it, I will cry so much that global warming or whatever wont even be the problem anymore. I have a tablet somewhere... I don't know if it's actually at my brothers, but I never use it, i just can't get used to the way you draw on a computer, it is neater and with less blackened hands but I find paper easier for myself. Probably cause I have a sketch book on me all the time @w@ but yes. Sleeeeep! Night Meiz! Hopefully your on more to talk to :P |
xDD It's funnier if you see me do it irl. I'm not a huge dude by any means ( I'm a 5'6" white guy with skinny wrists and girly everything OTL ), but I tend to have strength that I can just pull out of thin air, rofl.
I'm proud of it. >__> I used to take paper everywhere I went, before I had my tablet. But, I find with it being digital, the colors are more vibrant, blend better, crisper, and it helps me convey what's in my mind so much better. With paper and pencils, I always felt kind of held back. It was frustrating, and I couldn't improve as much. Lol, laterr |
