They're usually named that due to their moreish quality. Like a popular Crack Pie which seems to now be renamed because too many people found it offensive.

Google tells me crack pie is butter with oats. Oats are not addictive!! The butter part must be real good, like buttercream

I think it shares similarities tobchess pie. Her episode on Chef's Table talks about how she created it, with limited ingredients and time.

oats by themselves aren't addictive but with caramelized apples and cinnamon, or as overnight oats with nut butters they're :s-drool:
