Meh, I decided to stay with manga-style.
http://i46.tinypic.com/1zwc9x5.png

Still practicing and getting the hang of things. Never really was one for manga-style hands, so I'm just going to bite my tongue and roll with it. Figured the more I draw like this and be happy about it, the better I'll be in a few years or so.

Helsinki Harlot 10-07-2012 12:30 AM

I like it.

And hey; I avoided hands for 4 years. And Manga hands actually look a lot like real people hands. It's a good place to start tho'.

My pro-tip if you're trying to move more towards real life figures; practice tracing refs. Especially with a new tablet thing (I'm sick so forgive me if I rem. the wrong person) TRACING is the best thing you can do for practice. http://senshistock.deviantart.com/ is the best for that.

I know most artist curse tracing out the ass (except they all know they did it at some point), as long as you don't publish it for profit. But if you want to learn more realistic you have to have your hand get used to the STROKES. So if you're not happy with manga style, trace over an actual picture the lines and your hand will eventually get used to those movements and after awhile, bam. :)

I hope that made sense.

Never thought of it that way. I'll hafta do that! And I know that stock.. Hehe. I know another one too who does more medieval/fantasy poses for warriors and such.

Well, I am one of those artists who cuss tracing out the ass, lol.
But never looked towards it as a private self-tutor. It would help with me getting the body shape correctly, even for manga. I'm now searching for good stocks on DA to practice on.

And Feto is next to me, lol. She's playing League of Legends, I think. I'm actually sleepy.. I might end up going to bed here soonish.

Helsinki Harlot 10-07-2012 01:48 AM

Well I'm glad I gave another perspective. 'Cause I've done a few years of art shit in college and nothing has helped me more than tracing shapes. The way that they make you do the circle, the cone, and the square is the same way you have to practice a human shape. Your hand has to get used to the movement. I draw women better than anything else because I've made myself draw skeletons, trace them, and then trace every shape of a female body to know how it should FEEL when you draw it. As long as you don't try and make a name for tracing stuff, I'm in the camp of tracing = practice. Because it really is. It's why people publish free line art to color so that you can get PRACTICE in.

Especially with a tablet it's way dif. than using a pencil. It feels different, you have to do way dif. things to get what you want on the screen. So practicing the sweeps on the tablet makes it easier to do it on your own. :)

And I'm sick so I prob. rambled to all hell. But yeah. It's a good thing to learn from. :) And her stock especially is very open to helping artists as long as you don't pretend you didn't have a ref or something.

And tell her hey and if you guys are going to bed good night. :)

Obsidian 10-07-2012 02:02 AM

Lol, no worries. I don't mind ramblers, I'm one myself but I'm so tired and yet I want to stay up. X]
I think it's more like "I don't want to go where I think I might be going in the morning" and just don't want to sleep. >.>

Doin pretty good! Figured I've been disappeared long enough, I'd poke myself back in, lol. I tried to do that quite a few times but I'd post then forget that I have. Just been extremely busy around here.

Should blow regardless. Bloody noses have several causes and is nothing to be worried about unless it's quite frequent.

If you done anything what I sometimes do.. When I blow my nose, I'll blow, then wrap my finger in the napkin and dig for gold that clings to the nose when you attempt to dislodge it via blowing (I know, nasty, but not uncommon) and sometimes, I'll scratch myself and cause nose bleeds.
