Ginger lol how old is your birdie?

He's about a 2 year old cockatiel. I adopted him from my grandma and when I first got him he didn't like anyone anywhere near his cage at all. He would flip out if you moved your hands. Now he will take treats from my hands and I let him out of his cage sometimes so he can have the freedom. He's gotten very good at going back into his cage too. By the third time of being let out he figured out how to get back in and now he will willingly go back in for food and water, and goes on the top of his cage if he feels like it. I should look for a perch that goes on top of the cage and a couple of toys for him to keep himself occupied while he is out. I still need to properly hand train him.

it sounds like he is gaining trust with you which is great! my male Quaker parrot Jimmy hates all men. He attacks my other half, his brother, and their father lol he only loves me. My female Quaker parrot Nessie likes me and my other halfs brother. Nessie was adopted and is cage scared meaning she only trusts small environments, she stops eating in a large cage. Jimmy is that bonded with me he'll stop eating but I've got him with some other birds to try and keep that behavior at bay lol
