thought i'd do some light reading: War & Peace, by Leo Tolstoy is my current book XD

Moonshadow 11-26-2017 12:07 AM

I loved War and Peace! I skipped the war parts tho.

trystan830 11-26-2017 01:05 AM

heehee!

as it turns out, there's a section out of the middle that's the basis for the musical The Great Comet*, so i kinda wanted to read it. XD

Quiet Man Cometh 11-26-2017 03:49 AM

And the trudge through my research paper begins! Half finished in draft form. Reading a fair bit but it's spotty and all over the place. Still, video games!

When I'm done this (and finished my NaNo short story) it's back to actual novels.

Moonshadow 11-27-2017 12:00 AM

I just started No Thoroughfare written by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins. It is actually pretty good.

i see what you mean - i'm skimming the war parts! XD

Kaderin Triste 11-27-2017 08:39 PM

Lol.
One day I, too, will attempt War and Peace! XD
I will also attempt to read Les Miserable one day. I tried it once in high school, but was never able to get through the first chapter. Oh, and Don Quixote. I did get at least part of the way through it, but I just didn't have the focus or the time to get all the way through before it was due back.

trystan830 11-27-2017 09:06 PM

i have the unabridged Les Miserables. i might try that again next year. XD

Quiet Man Cometh 11-28-2017 07:50 PM

I didn't find there were a whole lot of war parts in W&P, but it has been a while. A coupe of people do get pretty dinged up.

Dolokhov is my second most detested literary character ever.

I was so close to getting my paper in on time...then I got sick yesterday morning and have been in bed and juggling pills until now. Blah.

so far there's been one large section, and a smaller section, but i'm sure there's more.

i may have been drinking something when i read this, but i didn't spray it on my computer. right now, in the book, he seems someone to be very leery of. as far as the musical is concerned, well, i certainly wouldn't want to piss off his scheming, well-connected a$$! XD

Moonshadow 12-04-2017 06:03 PM

I just updated my reading list.
I'm proud of myself this year!

Quiet Man Cometh 12-06-2017 09:19 PM

Well did about how I expected on my paper, which at least means I'm analyzing my own writing well enough. I should get back to actually reading my book though. I keep toting it around with plans to, but not quite getting there. I'm in the last chapter, too!

trystan830 12-16-2017 12:19 AM

i've completed reading 45 books this year!

there's a possibility i might finish War & Peace by year-end, so we'll see how it goes.

also in the next week or so i'll probably be setting up the 2018 reading challenge thread, also in this same Media forum. =)

Quiet Man Cometh 12-16-2017 04:36 AM

I might actually try to make that challenge, but...

Moonshadow 12-21-2017 11:41 PM

Trystan YAY! I've done so well with my reading this year, that I will definitely join next year.

trystan830 12-22-2017 12:01 AM

yaaay!

when i'm done with my HollyDay crochet, i'll set up a thread for 2018...

Quiet Man Cometh 12-22-2017 11:24 PM

I haven't read my book. At all. I'm less than a hundred pages until finished! I should make it worth the weight to tote with me, at least!

Maybe I'll see about reading it on the ferry tomorrow. Even if it is heavy.

trystan830 12-24-2017 10:43 PM

wooo! i finished War & Peace before the end of the year! (i did skim Part 2 of the Epilogue though....)

Quiet Man Cometh 12-28-2017 06:54 PM

Memories of Ice complete!

I might be able to squeak in one more book this year if I read fast. I think I'm going to give myself an easy challenge for 2018 so I can say I finished something.

trystan830 12-28-2017 11:28 PM

that's awesome, Quiet Man! good luck squeezing in another book!

Moonshadow 01-01-2018 10:41 PM

I finished the year with 70! and my page count was very high too.
I need to update my list, I also joined the 2018 challenge.

trystan830 01-01-2018 10:51 PM

that's awesome Moonshadow!!!

i read 46 books!!

Moonshadow 01-01-2018 11:17 PM

I was on a tear in 2017 as far as reading was concerned.
Hopefully I will keep it up in 2018.
(I don't like 2018 - I have trouble writing 8's!)

trystan830 01-01-2018 11:25 PM

woo hoo!!

i've only typed 2018 on a number bar so far. we'll see what happens on a number pad or actually writing it out.

Yeah, it's awkward. I took to my mom's habit of just stacking two 'o's, but I'm fine with them now. I'm working on making my ampersands look better, instead.

Moonshadow 01-07-2018 10:10 PM

OH yeah, I have two different ways of writing 8's actually 3. I have to actually think about it when I write the year now. I don't want one more thing to have to think about.

trystan830 01-07-2018 10:14 PM

i write 8's two different ways - two o's on top, or starting at the top and doing the squiggle way, like the way a skater would make a 'figure 8' (hope that makes sense?)

Quiet Man Cometh 01-07-2018 11:18 PM

I like the swishy figure 8 way (which, I assume, would be the reason it's called a "figure 8.")

trystan830 01-07-2018 11:23 PM

yeah, probably. that makes sense too, Quiet.
