I'm going on the local rock radio station next wednesday (95WIILROCK) for their "Ask a LARPer" segment. I sit there, on air, and answer questions from people who call in.

Speaking of gathering nerds and all...

Shadami 12-06-2012 12:31 AM

help me i'm being attacked by an overly adorable baby!!

also: that is pretty awesome :] I haven't LARPed since I was little before i knew it was LARPing

Daigotsu 12-06-2012 12:34 AM

My boyfriend was contacted by the station to come in, and he asked if I could come and represent the "female type". I am excited, but nervous as hell.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-06-2012 12:35 AM

I never heard of LARP until my later years in university. Something about LARPers playing Vampire: TM and crossing your hands over your chest meant you weren't in the room or you weren't "active." Not my thing.

I just realize I recognize your avy, Diag. Isn't he from L5R or something?

Shadami 12-06-2012 12:35 AM

I would be as well... i'd probably not be able to be on any kind of radio show to be honest. I freeze up for home videos. xD

Daigotsu 12-06-2012 12:39 AM

He is! 8D He is Daigotsu, Spider Clan founder and badass. Haha. I play the table top and card game.

I started RPing with Werewolf: the Apocalypse (table top). It then led to LARPing of Vampire: The Masquerade. Yeah, some of the symbols and gestures for things are ridiculous, but I much prefer live action to table top. I am an energetic, performance based person. Acting out is more entertaining than talking it out. But that is just me.

Shadami 12-06-2012 12:43 AM

I do for fun LARPing. Like with friends in the backyard with sticks. But I prefer tabletop with minatures and laughing and stuff. tis fun.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-06-2012 12:44 AM

Ah. Well we sort of talk and act, but that might be that we're just exuberant people, or we just like taking our minis and attacking other people's minis with them. Not exactly acting but we try to work in sound effects and such.

Daigotsu 12-06-2012 12:47 AM

I've never done the mini RP before. Just standard book, paper, pencil, your brain. They are fun from time to time, but I tend to stray away from those. But I will get sucked into a good one depending on what is being played (I prefer DnD, anything Whitewolf, and L5R) and who is playing/running.

I have sworn to never table top with certain people amongst my friends list because we NEVER GET ANYTHING DONE.

Shadami 12-06-2012 12:49 AM

i DnD. left for dead, and pokemon tabletop only.

Daigotsu 12-06-2012 12:50 AM

There is a L4D RP? Whoa. I love that video game.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-06-2012 12:59 AM

We use mini's because it's easier to manage the battles on the map. We often use a wipe board to draw the map grid and place the miniatures on it. Makes it easier to know where everyone is at a given time and such.

Daigotsu 12-06-2012 01:00 AM

That sounds like a good idea. The problem with my friends is they like to do everything all at once and go everywhere seperately. D: Makes for keeping up with maps and minis kind of dysfunctional.

My friends are special.

Shadami 12-06-2012 01:01 AM

we do pretty much the same Quiet. But my ex stole my wipe away map :[

And My brother made a system for L4D. it's actually fantastically done. we had a great time with it. xD I got bit and mutated. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Ah. Yeah, we've done that in multiplayer games like Baldur's Gate 2, but in DnD (ours at least) that tends to get people killed. Plus no one wants to be bothered walking all over the place because guy at the locked door wants the thief to come over and guy who spilled the acid trap two hallways away wants the cleric.

We also have something of a house rule that goes, 'if you say it, you do it.' My sister when she DM's is the forerunner on that one.

Daigotsu 12-06-2012 01:06 AM

We managed to NEVER DIE. Which astounded and amazed me. Our team of misfits could definitely be called, by the townspeople, as the "Last Resort". In all honesty, we should have been shot on site. But by the miracle of the DnD Gods, we lived. Through the entire chronicle.

When we played Star Wars it wasn't so bad though. Something about respecting the power of the Force or something.
