DOCTOR WHO?! 01-03-2011 11:48 PM

I'm definitely a big Doctor Who fan, which I'm sure is very obvious. I'll be honest I'm completely new to the fandom, but I'm completely addicted in the best way. Like Johnny I adored the Ninth Doctor, but the Tenth (David Tennant)is by far my favorite. Besides his personality and over all demeanor I think it's the man's hair that's got me addicted to him. Which, in my case, might be a little sad.

Ana 01-04-2011 12:01 AM

Hehe, not sad at all. He has amazing hair XD

DOCTOR WHO?! 01-04-2011 12:08 AM

He has, hasn't he? So glad it's not just me there.
Anyone here watch Torchwood as well?

Ana 01-04-2011 12:11 AM

Ooh... I have. ^^ I actually watched Torchwood before getting onto Doctor Who, lol. I was watching Torchwood regularly, but had only seen a couple random eps of Doctor Who, then I found out that the lovely Captain Jack came from series one of Doctor Who and went back to watch it from the beginning. XD Then I was hooked on both. ^^

Batty 01-04-2011 12:25 AM

I was the one who got MISS DOCTOR up there to actually watch the show. xD; I made her watch some of the Christmas Specials, and then I made her watch Blink. It was love from there on. Bwahahaha. <3

By the way, Jack. Seriously.

Ana 01-04-2011 12:40 AM

Hehe, I got one of my friends into Doctor Who. She had seen The Unicorn and the Wasp (talk about a WTF?! episode to start with, lol ) and was confused, but interested. So I got her to watch series one with me. She's still only seen Eccleston's season, cause she's frighteningly slow to catch up on tv, lol.

Mmmm... Jack... *gets dreamy-eyed*

DOCTOR WHO?! 01-04-2011 12:42 AM

Yeah, yeah, and I had really hated you too.Blink is what got me.She had started out with The Next Doctor and I honestly wasn't impressed at all. Now it's love. I adore Jack as well. It's really hard not too. :P Torchwood and Doctor Who is really hard not to like. XD Though, I still don't care for The Next Doctor.

Ana 01-04-2011 12:48 AM

Awww... I like The Next Doctor. The storyline was just alright, but I really liked the actor who played Jackson Lake. He was just adorable and sad.

johnny 01-04-2011 08:01 PM

I try getting my friends to watch Doctor Who, but they never do.

I got one of my friends to watch "Father's Day" but he was like "This is just weird," and never watched another episode.

Not my fault he caught the episode with the time-dragons and lots of character development/continuity. :S

Ana 01-04-2011 08:13 PM

Lol, yeah. One of the dangers of Doctor Who is starting with the wrong episode. I know someone who's first episode was Waters of Mars o.O

johnny 01-04-2011 08:24 PM

Haha, The Waters of Mars is not a good episode to start with, at all.

Other than the references to David Bowie, I really didn't like that episode.

The biggest issue I had with it was the fact that there was fire in space. And a dramatic walk through fire in space!

Putting myself in a non-fan's shoes, I could definitely see the confusing sort of plot, the scientific errors, and the melodrama really turning a person off from watching another episode.

Ana 01-04-2011 08:35 PM

Lol, yeah. The biggest problem they had was that all of their friends had told them how awesome Tennant's Doctor was, and if you didn't have the context to see what led 10 to that point emotionally,. he almost seems like the villain of the show in that ep. He basically thought 10 was an asshole, lol. Luckily he gave the show another try and went back to the beginning.

johnny 01-04-2011 08:43 PM

I love Ten and all, but I really don't see why he's more awesome than Nine or Eleven.

Maybe it's because I like my Doctors kind of weighed down by something. For Nine, it was guilt and stuff. For Eleven, I think he's just a bit more angry than Ten ever was, and more of a risk taker.

I have no clue why I prefer them to Ten, honestly. I should re-watch all the New Who episodes and see if I can't figure it out.

Ana 01-04-2011 08:50 PM

Hehe, I like all of them, although it did take a while for 11 to grow on me. I think 10 is my favorite because he's the one I crush on the most, lol. I just love David Tennant. On a less shallow note, 10 is probably a lot of people's favorite because he had the longest run in the new series. Just like a lot of classic Who fans say 4 is their favorite because his run was the longest. When you see someone as your "primary" character, they can also easily become your favorite, simply due to being more familiar with them. All three are brilliant in their own way though.

johnny 01-04-2011 09:15 PM

Yeah, you're probably right.

Also, for a lot of American fans, I don't think they really watched the first season but tuned in later, when it was Ten. So Ten would not only be their longest-running Doctor, but also their first. And people tend to favor their first Doctor, from what I've noticed.

It actually took about five or six episodes before I warmed up to Ten, but I loved Eleven almost instantly. And that was coming from me absolutely hating him for being really, really young. I didn't think someone as young as Matt Smith could play a character who's supposed to be as worldly and intelligent as the Doctor, but when he showed he could, I loved him to pieces.

Ashy 01-04-2011 09:19 PM

doctors 4 nd 10 are my faves :o

Ana 01-04-2011 09:28 PM

10 was my semi-first, lol. I had seen a few random eps of series 4 before I went back and started from the beginning, so I had already gotten fond of him.

I liked 9 from the first, although it took a second watch through the series to appreciate how really brilliant Eccleston was.

11 took me a while to warm up to, partly because I was in mourning for 10, lol. Also, a lot of season 5 was hit and miss for me. I really liked the first two episodes, and loved the insight into the Doctor's self-loathing in Amy's Choice, but the bulk of the season, while not bad, didn't really jump out and make me love it, until the last four episodes. Vincent and the Doctor was beautiful and The Lodger is where I really started to appreciate Matt Smith's special brilliance in playing the Doctor. That's the ep where I decided that I loved 11 as much as I had loved 9 and 10. The Christmas special just cemented that for me and now I can't wit for the new season ^^

johnny 01-05-2011 12:10 PM

Yeah, I love Eccleston so much. <3

I love all the Doctors of the New Who series (still working my way through the classic episodes, so can't pass judgment on those yet, but from what I've seen of the First Doctor, I definitely don't love him. xD) but Nine, I just loved him so much. He was funny and kind of dark and still childishly happy/curious at times. Lovely <3

I think I should maybe re-watch Ten's run. I remember loving him a lot (and loving David Tennant) but there was such a long gap between seasons that I sort of forgot what was great about him. I own the DVDs of Nine's season, so I had those to remind me all the time, but... yeah. Need a reminder for Ten. I should try and rent them from Blockbuster, maybe.

Ana 01-05-2011 11:12 PM

If you've got Netflix, they've got it available for streaming. ^^ If you don't I'm sure Blockbuster will have them too.

johnny 02-20-2011 09:07 PM

I just finished re-watching all of the episodes of "New Who" - that is to say, from Nine through the run of Ten - and I still can't quite grasp why people like Ten so much. Tennant is amazingly lovely and stuff, but the Tenth Doctor as a character grated on my nerves quite a bit, and some of the episodes ("Love and Monsters", holy shit, what awfulness thought that up?) of Ten's run were absolutely unwatchable, while I would totally watch and re-watch Nine's episodes again and again. Unsure if I would say the same for Eleven, but I've seen them twice and still loved them so... maybe?

I suppose Ten is a pretty charming character. When he's being funny. He's quick and smart and has a lot of really great lines, but that's pretty much where the like ends...

Still can't really get why everyone loved him over the rest.

Sabrehagen 02-21-2011 01:31 AM

The fourth Doctor is still my favorite with the second in well second xD

The tenth is one of my favorite actors, but that Doctor is partly based off of the fourth in my opinion.

I inherited all the VHSs that my father had of Doctor Who, love 'em and watch them when I can. I have from the first Doctor to the sixth, but not complete.

My favorite two companions are Leela and Romana; still love the Daleks as my all time villains and the Master is pretty good too.

Celestial Delinquent 02-21-2011 02:02 AM

Mmm.. I love me some Doctor Who. :3

I'm surprised I hadn't seen this thread before.

johnny 02-21-2011 10:15 AM

It was sort of buried. xD

Batty 05-14-2011 10:38 AM

DOCTOR WHO THREAD NEEDS TO LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE.

I wanna talk about the new plottings with people. SO LIVE, DARNIT! LIVE!

Glitch 05-14-2011 01:14 PM

I love dr who :3 new episode tonight!!

johnny 05-14-2011 01:33 PM

Yay, the Doctor Who thread is living again!

Talk of plot awaaaaay!

I should probably add a spoiler warning for this whole thread, though honestly people should expect as much for an ongoing TV show.

Glitch 05-14-2011 09:07 PM

Biting! It's like kissing only better because some one wins!

:D Best quote ever.

Batty 05-14-2011 09:09 PM

YAY! MY ONE POST MADE A DIFFERENCE!

Okay, so, I'm going to go watch the new episode right as we speak.
So, I'll be back with theories on "The Doctors Wife". <3

Glitch 05-14-2011 09:35 PM

Haha I had been thinking about making a thread like this and then I saw this one and was like oh yay!

I'm watching the episode just now too. :3

Haha Rori i the pretty one . . . . I am so amused I can't even laugh!

Batty 05-14-2011 10:11 PM

If its okay with Johnny, I may just make a Doctor Who hangout thread. <3 [If its permitted, of course!]

Just finished the episode, and I've got to say, BEST episode from season six yet. I'm sorry, but, I'm lovin' the Tardis even more now. xDDD;

And I'm downloading the confidential as we speak. <3

OH. And "Bunk beds are cool. Its a bed. WITH A LADDER."

Glitch 05-14-2011 10:12 PM

It's a bed with a ladder! What's better than that? :3

I still miss Rose though. They could have made one episode showing what their life was liikkkeeeee. o3o

Batty 05-14-2011 10:22 PM

I wish they would have made a spin-off of that. As well as the Doctor's "Daughter", as well. <.<;; Unfortunately...

And now I'm going to refer to my Tardis phone charm as "sexy". I'm going to receive even more strange looks from people now. <3 HUZZUH!

Glitch 05-14-2011 10:27 PM

I have the hopes that his daughter will pop up somewhere sometime.

Batty 05-14-2011 10:28 PM

Its Tennants real life wife, too. <3
And if I understand correctly, they just had a baby. <33333

Glitch 05-14-2011 10:32 PM

She might still come back though. Just saying.

XD

Batty 05-15-2011 12:22 AM

That would be so freaking amazing.

johnny 05-15-2011 02:46 PM

Was I the only one who really didn't like the Doctor's Daughter thing? x:

I thought it was kind of... I don't know, cheap?

Especially since she apparently regenerated without changing at all, and without the Doctor knowing she was capable of it. "Time Lords regenerate into new people" is sort of a standard I thought they could never adjust without breaking the whole foundation of the show, really.

Anyway, THE LAST EPISODE WAS AMAAAAZING. It shouldn't be much of a shock, since it was written by NEIL GAIMAN. Haha.

Also: does anyone suspect that River Song is somehow the TARDIS? Or a TARDIS? They reference a river at the end of the episode, and it'd explain the fact that she can drive the TARDIS, knows everything about the Doctor, and the whole "Doctor's Wife" thing of the title (since River Song is often suspected to be the Doctor's Wife, and this episode sort of revealed that the Doctor's only 'wife' is ever going to be the TARDIS)

Also Also: While watching Behind the Scenes stuff for series 5, I always wondered why they kept the old TARDIS set. I guess I know now!~

Batty 05-15-2011 04:45 PM

Haha. Never thought about River being a Tardis, BUT, she had said she was taught to fly it, and you see the Doctor kind of go "Whaaa?". And then River, in all her fantastic glory, goes "SPOOILLERRSSSS!"

So I don't think so. I mean, even if she was... a human body wasn't really built to hold the soul of a Tardis. Thats why Idris burned out so quickly.

johnny 05-15-2011 05:02 PM

I just want River to be something more interesting than the Doctor's Future Wife. :C

Everyone kind of guessed that from the start, and it'd be great if they pulled something of a twist from everyone's expectations.

Batty 05-15-2011 05:24 PM

I know. >< I'd like something that we don't already expect come out of her.

But, what was the line Idris used in the episode? "The only water in the forest is the river."

Heeheehee..
